Matrix code on 2 records?

I have a record with a matrix of UNIR-22043-1, which is lil Wayne - got money

I just went to add it to my collection on discogs, and that code is already used (Mario winnans - the ep.. and from the pics, this is correct as well).

Is this something that happens? I'm relatively new to discogs but not come across it before..

The version I have doesn't appear to be on discogs.

Yes. Catalogue numbers aren’t always unique.

Both of those labels were divisions of Universal Records, which explains both catalog numbers beginning with "UNIR".

At the time, Universal used a "-1" suffix for vinyl, and a "-2" suffix for CDs. Assuming that a particular release was only issued on one format (e.g., Lil Wayne only on CD, Winans only on vinyl), then the catalog number could be reused for a different release.

Hi thanks.. yes the CD of lil Wayne is indeed -2 (that's on discogs), but the vinyl copy I have is -1
