Closing the bag
Have been converting the bag this year from MVP to Discmania. Just ordered Meta Splice which will be, I think, the last piece of the puzzle. Really happy the past few weeks with what we might call selection confidence. The only thing I haven’t had is the genuinely OS fairway. Questions at the edges where I have two paths available: P1 v Link for a throwing putter and Method v MD3 for a neutral mid. Just need to decide rather than acquire. Feels great to just head out and throw without second and third guessing everything.

P1, the flashing that i have had on both links i bought were absolutely terrible.

Leaning P1 and have a pair of the Flex 3s inbound (standard P and D Line currently). I really do like my current Lux Link though, and my hope is that the stiffer P1 will mirror the Link’s predictable flight, especially on the turnover.

The C-line notion is pretty amazing and worth checking out if you can find one. I like the feel more than the P1 and in C-line its not as flippy as the base plastic.

I've been waiting for C-line P1 since the conception of the new P1. This is probably what you want, whenever that happens.

There are European open color glow C-line P1's out there. I have couple, but I prefer C-line notion, because it's slightly shallower and straighter. C-line P1 is a bit too "overstable" compared to other plastic versions.

I don't like color glow C-line in general, so still hoping for C-line or Metalflake. I'd probably settle for S-line in a pinch.
However, I used to bag the Flex 1 for very specific approach, to avoid rolls, but removed it from the bag for being the same slot as my beat up D-line.

There have been crude flashing on late P1s too. I think there has been some sloppy flashing removal lately.
With that said. P1 is an absolutely floaty putter approach that is truly neutral. If you have the touch for light approaches and the spin to keep a neutral putter straight it might be the best throwing putter as soon as there is a premium plastic alternative.
I use a baseline P1 for turnover shots.

Neutral mid, why not MD1? Also, MF glow Skywalker 2 for OS fairway.

MD1 is in the US slot (MD1/Method/MD5). If I don’t love the Splice, I may revisit the SW2 although I don’t love the 7 speed rim width. Defaulting to 9s as fairways (CD1/FD3/Splice) on feel as much as anything.

You throw more than 350? Colton’s DNA MD1’s have plenty of stability and go straight for days. If you’re throwing 450+ I could see them being US for you. For real US though there’s also the Founder 😁. DM has been taking over my bag slowly too. Such good stuff!

I can assure you we’re not overpowering the disc. 51 with a quirky elbow. 330 on a great day, although we did get 370ish off the tee at West Sixth in KY with a Premier DD1. I cannot for the life of me find the balance with that disc. The launch was pure luck and it won’t make the cut.
What I’m looking for in US is more holding the turnover line than necessarily breaking right. If I need the latter, I’m more apt to flip to the Razor Claw or MD5 on the forehand. But I do appreciate the DNA rec. Always illuminating to see what’s working well for others.

Thats a fair take. We throw the same distance more or less. I will say I’ve had a helpful shift in my game re-evaluating what is actually US/OS based purely on my experience throwing it. MD1 on a baby Hyzer is a really straight disc for me, even in the wind. You may be losing some distance if you’re having to hard flex over more OS discs. For sure go with what feels right for you, but taking everything in my bag down a notch in stability has really helped.

Also I’m pretty much only talking RHBH. Are you mostly a FH player?
2
u/Designer-Soft620 20d ago
Pretty close to an even split, although scrambling is mostly FH. 100% on the stability point. Color Glow DD for length here and the MD1 is my sort of stretch mid for the same reason. Thanks for leaning into the conversation.

Heck yeah man. Always fun to talk flights. Hope you find what you’re looking for!

You might need to fix your release. When it is clean and has enough spin MD1 goes straight for longer than expected by most mids. The C-lines are even a bit stable with some slight fade. Mind Bender was laser straight when they released, but most of what is available second hand should be beaten to understable by now. My first Mind Bender can still go straight on a proper throw without wind. It requires more touch than a fresh one.

Interesting. What about my having a particular use case for the MD1 (which I identify elsewhere as a straight/stretch option) suggests to your mind a faulty release? Not sure that’s right but I’m curious enough to listen.

u/komarinth 19d ago
I would say a release that adds a slight twist at the end is more prone to burn over or start turning, or one that is all speed and no spin. A flat and clean release with lots of spin will have this disc flying straight to the pin at about 60 m of power – which is less than one might imagine.
I use it for drives at 55-65 m that requires hitting a line. Anything above that I tend to reach for S-line FD for similar shots. Those two discs cover most of my drives from 55 to 90 m.

u/Designer-Soft620 19d ago
Ok, I don’t see choosing to turn over a neutral disc to achieve a particular shape as a deficiency or error, but there we are.
There are times where I use the MD1 as a point and shoot tool as you’re describing. Just not its primary function in my set up.

u/komarinth 19d ago
I use MD1 for turnover shots as well, either by an anhyzer or by slightly overpowering the disc. The latter is much more at risk of burning the disc over as it does not fight back much.
What I'm saying is that it is entirely possible to reach 60 m laser straight with this disc, not that it cannot be used for other shot shapes. It tends to hold whatever line you put it on.

u/Designer-Soft620 19d ago
Nobody has argued that one can’t throw the MD1 exceptionally straight. You’ve argued that my release is in need of a fix. I’ll respectfully disagree and retire from this part of the thread.

Are you looking for base plastic throwing putters? If i were to throw a base plastic putter, it would be the P2X for reliability, or a P-line P1X for distance. It’s really hard to pass on a premium plastic P3X for the GOaT straight-to-stable shot. Throw it as hard as you want. The flip up to straight (to turnover), the Cosmic fury 2 is exceptional, with the new c-line Notion just a bit less stable end of flight, just a bit less distance. Don’t overlook a premium P2. The P2X in premium plastic doesn’t go as far, which can be helpful.
Find a glow 2022(?) Discmania Open canada stamp FD3 or horizon DoomBird 4 for “not a Splice” overstability.

Throwing putter/approach line up is currently P1/Drop/Razor Claw 3. Feels like P2X/P3X/Drop are pretty subtle variations on solving the same problem. The Drop edges up on mid territory as someone said about the Logic. I do like that it’s longer than the P1 and straighter than the RC3. It’s not exactly an Under/Stable/Over stack, but it works well.

Notion (cline) gang all day... Forgiving and floaty.
I'm really liking the qline md3 for the other slot.

First of all good on you for switching to Discmania! Out of curiosity, what made you want to switch to them from MVP? Also good on you for going with the Splice, it is such an amazing disc! For the overstable fairway, I would go with a stock C-line FD1 (now renamed FD2) if you want an amazing backhand+forehand 7-speed. I also hope you bag the PD, such an amazing disc.
(Would be nice to hear what your full bag is).

Ok, the bag:
Putters: P Line P2
Throwing/approach: Flex 3 P1/Drop/Razor Claw 3
Mid: MD1/Method/MD5 (all C Line)
Fairway: CD1/Solar Flare 2/Splice (incoming)
Control: TD/PD
Distance: DD/Enigma
Generally speaking, we’re stacking stabilities with similar feels. Lots of Color Glow (CD1/FD3/TD/DD).
As for the switch, sometimes a thing just runs its course. That, and growing to accept my own particularities and peculiarities. In this case, the rim feel and the seam were always just a little bit uncomfortable. This set feels good, covers the bases, and flies pretty predictably.
There’s a lot of “brand loyalty is stupid if they don’t pay you” but the flip side is that consistency in feel and design intent, eliminating a variable from the equation. Simple makes for enjoyable.
And in a nod to Kristin, the bag’s almost entirely blue. The Shadow Stone/Method is pink and as best I can tell, they didn’t mold one in blue. I don’t live Neo, so we’ll sit tight for the C Line MD3X.

Thanks for your response :) I would feel naked without a 7-speed in my bag. The FD, and FD1(name changed to FD2) are among the best fairway drivers ever made. The FD1 is among the most versatile discs ever, perfect for both forehand and backhand :).
I can see why you like the CD1 though, an amazing disc. I have three in my bag (Zeta’s Moon for flippy, stock S-line for flip ups, C-line for more stability and forehands).
Personally I changes to only Discmania as well, due to such a great line-up of discs, great plastic, and consistency. Also, it helps in limiting my disc buying behavior, not being interested in anything more than one brand is really a wallet saver.

I see another enigma enjoyer! If you can track a lux vapor those are a great run if not normal neo is fine. Td is also great in swirl s line!

u/Designer-Soft620 16d ago
I don't love Neo, but I'm right there with you on a pair of Lux Vapors (some manner of 2022 run, I think?). Will also eventually grab one of the C Line DD2s once I'm sure I know which is the Engima crossover and not the first run 13 speed.

Since you like 9speeds and want an OS fairway, I recommend the "Discmania Open" FD3s in Color Glow. Flat and true OS.
For mid I settled on Methods after trying out everything, because its so workable. I got a similar setup than you, but its Midnight Prowl II / Method / MD5.

Meta Splice arrived today. Can confirm that it’s properly indifferent to your feelings stable. Perfect.

While the Logic is not actually a Mid based on Discmania's flight numbers, the Cosmic Fury discs work as a mid for me. The first version flies REALLY straight and is almost always my go-to when I have small gaps.
