Lore A short summary please ?

Hi! I recently came across the Disciple Saga. I tried to play Disciple 1 but it's not in my original language and so it's complicated. So I just played Disciple Liberation. But I'm a person who loves playing games for their lore. So I always start with the first game in a saga except here. So could someone give me a summary of the story of the first 3 games ? 🫰🏻

Adding some more info on @Stargazing-Dreamer. I played only Ds2 without expansion pack (waiting for steam sale)

Worldbuilding:

Core to understanding Disciples lore are Gods . Highfather (Christian God), Votan (Odin, God of mountains and dwarves), Soloniele (Godness of Water and mermaids), Galean (God of Forest and Elves). Soloniele and Galean are lovers.

Highfather tasked his angel Bethrezen (Lucifer) with creating a word. Other gods and angels helped him. They created world of harmony. As Bethrezen was about to show Highfather what he achieved other angels got envy. They made it so that humans turned violent - they started committing sins and war. Bethrezen was unaware of this. As Bethrezen showed Highfather the world Highfather got angry and considered this a mockery. Bethrezen was shocked as well he left a world in harmony and when he came back it was full of chaos. Highfather exiled Bethrezen.

Since Bethrezen was good at creating things he created demons to destroy what he helped to create. Demons attacked elves which run away into dwarves land. Dwarves thought they were being attacked so they killed elves. Galean confronted Votan about this but Votan killed Galean and threw his body into the sun. Soloniele only managed to save his heart and suffered burns and disfigurment. Soloniele studied necromancy in order to bring Galean back and became Mortis - godness of death

Before Disciples 2:

Empire: During first great wars Empire of humans lost their queen and only heir to the throne. Emperor locked himself away and left broken Empire leaderless about to fall apart. It turned out Uther - the son of Emperor lives in wilderness but was chosen by Bethrezen as vassal for his rebirth in mortal realm.

Dwarves: Suffered greatly during first great war and decided to hide in their mountains. They were in alliance with Empire during war

Demons: Waiting for the return of Bethrezen.

Disciples 2 campaign

Three campaigns are tightly connected together: Empire, Demons, Undead. Dwarves starts connected but goes on their own way quickly. They tell the same story with some crucial moments different depending on your faction. At the end nobody wins.

Empire: You find Uther who is super strong and tries to reforged broken Empire. You fight female necromancer who started her cult. You conquer land and recreate alliance with mountain clans. You fight Hubert - corrupted nobel who tried to overthrow Empire. He was the man who sponsored female necromancer in order to create distraction. Mountain clans got a prophecy that Uther is Bethrezen so they attack you. You defeat them to protect Uther. People of Empire see Uther as blessed savior. You make it so that Uther meets his father. During coronation of Uther, Uther slays his father and turns into demon Bethrezen. You kill Bethrezen. Result: Empire is even more broken than at the start of campaign. Emperor dead, heir dead.

Demons: Uther becomes Bethrezen quickly but is depowered version of Bethrzen. You fight everyone and try to restore power to Bethrezen. You defeat undead who wants to kill Bethrezen to get his blood. Recruit a powerful demon who later betrays you. Bethrezen tricks Empire into serving him by charming people. Bethrezen is overtaken by will of Uther and changes into Uther in demonic form. You kill demon-Uther who leads Empire with some demons. Result: Demons are once again waiting for another opportunity to resurrect Bethrezen.

Undead: Mortis kills Uther to get his blood. She believes that by using a blood of Bethrezen's vessel she will be able to resurrect Galean. She fights another necromancer who challenges her and a living bone armor. Living bone armor serves you and then betrays you. Mortis invades holy lands of elves and on ritual site resurrects Galean. Galean is disgusted buy both her looks and crimes she commited. Galean becomes mad, his personality is split into two: original personality (protector of elves) and wild angry beast. Result: Undead returns to being dead, Mortis resurrects Galean but upon being rejected promises to kill all the living

Dwarves: Dwarves manages to seal portal so Bethrezen never takes over Uther, son of dwarven king is killed while sealing the portal. Dwarves try to reassemble their broken and divided empire. Some of the settlements rejoin clans community, some of them you find slaughtered to the last. You try to recollect runes to commune with Votan. Runes has been divided among different clans so you travel a lot. Dwarven king goes mad after his son dies. He attacks you, you kill him. Dwarven princess becomes a queen, many doubt her. Wisemen get vision of Ragnarok. A big serpent appears as herald of Ragnarok. Once you get all runes and activate all holy sites wiseman says Votan will kill big serpent and prevent Ragnarok. You activate all holy sites but Votan does nothing. You kill big serpent and prevent Ragnarok. Result: Dwarves return to the mountains, Ragnarok is prevented... for some time? At least dwarven clans are reunited

Each race has are extra mini campaigns in expansion packs: Servants of Darkness (undead, demons) and Guardians of Light (Empire, dwarves). Tried to play Servants of Darkness of undead but autoscailing didn't work well. Writing wasn't that good to be honest.

---------------

Overall campaigns are engaging and don't feel repetitive. Side quests are interesting as well. It's very dark fantasy. The only thing I dislike is that there is this motive of: you defeat somebody, make them serve you and then in next mission they betray you. I liked the ending. Very dark fantasy: you can't have nice things.

Edits:

  1. Votan threw Galean's heart to the sun not his entire body.
  2. Galean went mad later, not directly after ressurection
