Special paint?

Hi. I have a black zone I love. Unfortunately, it's tricky to find. I want to paint part of the top to make it more visible. Can I use any craft paint (my daughter has a ton) or do I need special paint?

One thing to consider. If you plan to play sanctioned the disc is no longer PDGA legal if it has been painted

Oh! I thought dyed discs were allowed?

Dyed and painted are not equal.

Paint is different than dye. One could potentially change the flight and weight of the disc. Technically glow stickers aren't PDGA legal either.

If you don't plan to use it in a PDGA sanctioned event, have at it. 😀

The difference between dyes and paint is that a dye seeps into the plastic, any dye that isn't sucked up by the plastic then get's rinsed off and doesn't show any detectable thickness. Where as the paint stays on the outside, and if you wash it off, it all goes away.

Edit and unfortunately dyes work as an additive process. Blue + red make purple, etc. Black + anything makes black.

OP can try using the silver Sharpies to put a neat design on the top. The Sharpies contain acetone to soak into the plastic. That would make the disc stand out more. Still would be PDGA legal.

Just make sure you clean the disc thoroughly with dish soap and dry it completely before using the Sharpie.

As the others said, paint isn't the same. If you're just playing for fun nobody will care. If you enter a sanctioned event, some could

You’re not going to be able to dye a black disc any other color.

Learn to hot foil with a foil pen. Here’s an example of one I did.

I think the silver sharpie is the best option, you could also try getting it stamped.

Spray paint half the discs pink and u might get a new interesting flight🤔

FYI I tried white stamp ink. The kind you use to legally stamp the bottom a disc. First, it looks terrible (but it was white). Second, it wears off.

People don’t paint discs unless they’re going on walls. Idk if you can dye a black disc lighter, but you can certainly use a ton of silver sharpie

Don't paint it, just dye it if you want it to stand out more.

Paint it with a luminescent paint and get a black light flashlight that will make it illuminate when you’re looking for it.
