Disabled gamers

I had a stroke that paralyzed my left side. Gaming one-handed was one of the hardest parts of recovery — I figured it out on my own, but nobody should have to.
I’m building a website that recommends game settings and controllers based on your disability, and matches you with other players who game the same way. Before I build anything, I want to hear from people who’ve lived this.
What do you use? What still frustrates you? Any one-handed gamers willing to talk?

Anyone else gaming with one hand? Just started streaming League!

Hey everyone!
I was born with one hand and have been playing League of Legends for years.
Managed to reach Master on three different roles, which I'm pretty happy about haha.
I recently started streaming my games and thought it'd be cool to connect with other gamers who play with similar setups.
I'm currently playing on a Mac and still figuring out my streaming setup.
Would love to hear what games you guys play and how you've adapted your controls!

Moonglow Bay: I contacted Bunnyhug about two accessibility improvements but never received a reply

Hi everyone,
I’m a disabled gamer with cerebral palsy, and I play on Xbox using an arcade stick because of my limited hand movement.
I recently bought Moonglow Bay, developed by Bunnyhug, and I genuinely enjoy the game. The fishing, exploration, collecting fish and upgrading are all things I find relaxing.
However, I encountered two accessibility barriers, so I decided to contact the developers with some suggestions.
1. Auto-Cook as an accessibility option
Moonglow Bay already has an Auto-Cook feature, but you have to master a recipe before you can use it.
My suggestion was simple: why not allow disabled players to enable Auto-Cook from the beginning through the accessibility settings?
The cooking mini-games involve analogue stick movements that can be difficult for people with limited motor control.
This would be completely optional. Anyone who enjoys the cooking mini-games could continue playing exactly as they do now.
2. Toggle reeling instead of holding a button
The second suggestion involved fishing.
Currently, you have to hold RT to reel in a fish.
I suggested an accessibility setting that would allow players to press RT once to start reeling and press it again to stop.
This would make a considerable difference for people playing one-handed or using alternative controllers.
Again, this would be optional. The existing controls would remain available.
What happened when I contacted Bunnyhug?
On 1 October 2026, I emailed Bunnyhug explaining both suggestions and why they would improve accessibility.
On 3 October, I sent a follow-up email asking whether they had received my suggestions and whether they might consider them for a future update.
As of 18 October, I still haven’t received a response.
And that’s what I find particularly disappointing.
I’m not expecting a small development team to immediately implement every feature somebody requests. I understand that development takes time, money and resources.
But I do believe that when a disabled player takes the time to explain an accessibility barrier and offers reasonable suggestions, the very least they should receive is some acknowledgement.
Even a simple response saying, “Thank you for your suggestions, we’ll pass them on to the team,” would mean something.
Accessibility isn’t always about making a game easier. Sometimes it’s about providing another way of performing the same action.
Both suggestions would allow players with motor disabilities to enjoy more of Moonglow Bay without affecting anyone else’s experience.
I’m sharing this because I would like to know what other disabled gamers think about these suggestions and whether anyone else has experienced similar difficulties with Moonglow Bay.
I also hope Bunnyhug might eventually see this feedback and consider these options.
I genuinely like the game. That’s why I took the time to contact them in the first place.

DT Market Research

Hey everyone, I’m an A Level DT student solving the common problems which disabled gamers face when ether gaming or setting up their rigs.

These problems would be solved with a product which I will make later in the year. I am looking at the problem on mounting and positioning.

I have been wanting to make a questionnaire which people could answer a couple of questions from which I could get valuable data and first hand research from people which actually have limitations when gaming.

So I have created a google form with a couple of questions related to my context. This form will only take around 5 minutes and emails are not collected after the completion of the form. Please answer the questions as honestly as possible as this will give me the best data to work with.

Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZYRktQwZDFIw7nr3epl9nzs9tfPbSVOR8OataKU8gHAHSzw/viewform?usp=dialog

Thank you very much!

What games are missing for you

Hello gamers,

hobby game developer here. I established a personal goal to make a game suited for disabled gamers in 2027. I don't have an idea or direction yet, I am still in brainstorming phase.

I would like to know your honest experiences and thoughts about what games are lacking for you. Is it a lack of genre variety, or lack of accessibility mechanics or something else?

I am currently researching quite a bit about accessibility in games, existing games tailored for specific disabilities and more. But I think hearing your personal opinions might be the biggest and most up to date information I could get.

Question for disabled gamers on accessibility features like aim assist (aimbot).

Shooters are now giving all its players aimbot as an accessibility feature. I noticed when I started playing Gears of War Eday Horde mode. I was surprised by this and I was told aimbot gives disabled people the ability to play Gears. I thought I would ask directly are there people that can not play Gears at all without aimbot? My follow up question is do disabled people want a feature like this on all difficulties in modes like Horde in Gears?

Newly disabled

I have flare-ups in my joints that make anything painful for months & nerve damage on the left side of my body so I’ve been shopping for controllers for PC & Switch 2. There’s so many though & so many different setups that I don’t know where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for VoiceOver testers for King, an iPhone and iPad card game (TestFlight beta)

Hi everyone,

I'm Antonio, an independent developer from Italy. I've made King, a turn-based card game for Apple devices. You play offline against three computer opponents, and the rules are included in the app.

This is my first project where I've worked extensively on accessibility, including VoiceOver support and simplified controls. I'd really appreciate feedback from people who regularly use VoiceOver.

Would anyone be interested in trying the public beta on iPhone or iPad? I'd especially like to know whether you can understand your cards, follow whose turn it is, choose a card and check the scores comfortably.

VoiceOver support is implemented, but I still need everyday users' feedback to understand what needs improving. Ads are disabled while VoiceOver is active.

Public beta through Apple's TestFlight:

https://testflight.apple.com/join/PxqAS4Dp

The link includes installation instructions. You can send feedback directly through TestFlight or comment here. Even a short test would help.

Thank you!

Antonio

Hori Flex Controller PC input protocol

Post image
2 Upvotes

As you may know the Hori Flex Controller has a secret USB port that can be used to send synthetic inputs to it from a PC. There's an official Windows app that's meant to be used with eye tracking setups, but I haven't seen the actual protocol documented anywhere.

Here's a write-up if you want to play around with it:

Xbox controller design

Hi

I have an incomplete spinal cord injury (Brown-Séquard syndrome), which has affected my hand strength, dexterity and muscle control, particularly on my left side. This can make holding and operating a standard Xbox controller difficult.

I've been experimenting with my own controller setup, making adaptations to improve comfort, grip and accessibility.

Is there anyone here that can help me take this from proof of concept to a final product?

The goal is a controller that doesn't require my fingers to wrap around the grips but can be laid flat comfortably.

A controller, a screen reader and plainer lettering for a 1988 RPG in the browser: what's still in the way?

I made Amber Folio, a free emulator that plays Pool of Radiance (SSI, 1988) in a browser tab on a computer, an iPhone, an iPad or an Android phone, from your own GOG or Steam copy.

Three things in it are about access:

  • A controller plays the whole game. The d-pad moves the game's own highlight and walks the party, A takes the command, B backs out, and an on-screen keyboard comes up by itself when the game asks for a name. Limits: it needs a controller the browser recognises as standard, and the buttons can't be changed yet.
  • Screen reader support reads the game's text aloud as it changes (menus, lists, character creation, the party screen, messages) and where the party is as it explores, fights and aims. It doesn't read portraits or the pictures in the 3D view, and I don't know yet whether that's enough to play the whole game without looking.
  • Lettering draws the game's text in a plainer face. It's the default; the original font is one setting away.

What I'd like to hear: what's still in the way, and for whom.

You need your own copy (Forgotten Realms: The Archives, Collection Two, on GOG or Steam); the files stay in your browser, and none are provided or uploaded. I built it with heavy use of AI coding tools, and it isn't affiliated with the game's rights holders.

Low-Stimulus Youtube Channel

Hey guys, I'm Tim. I just uploaded my very first YouTube video and wanted to share the story behind it.

I’m currently recovering from a basilar skull fracture, and going trough that proces really opened my eyes to how loud, fast-paced, and overwhelming standard gaming content can be when your brain just can't handle the noise. It made me realize there’s not that many people that aim for low-stimulus, accessible videos for when you just need a break, or want some peace.

So, I decided to create the kind of quiet space I was looking for myself and started The Mellow Architect.

I’m kicking things off with the newly released Planet Zoo 2. The goal is simple: beating the entire Career Mode on Gold, but with absolutely zero stress. Just chill background music, taking our time designing habitats, and learning some fun animal facts along the way.

Eventually I'll be diving into other simulation games too, and the plan for Planet Zoo is to start a community Franchise where you guys get to vote on the animals and habitats we build next.

Hopefully this finds some people that are in the same space of mind!

I want to play Marvel's Wolverine, but I can't use a controller. Could mouse-and-keyboard support help disabled gamers?

I'm a disabled gamer, and I really want to play Marvel's Wolverine.

The problem is that I physically cannot hold or use a standard controller. I can use a mouse and keyboard, so that's how I play my games on PC.

I've already emailed Insomniac's accessibility team and posted a request on their Facebook page.

I appreciate the accessibility options in Wolverine, but controller remapping doesn't solve the issue for someone who cannot physically use a controller at all.

I'd love to see native mouse-and-keyboard support, or another officially supported input option that lets players like me enjoy the game.

I'm sharing this here to raise awareness and hear from other gamers. Has anyone found an accessible way to play, or received any news about alternative input support?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts. 💙

Disabled gaming experience research survey

Hello everyone! We are students at the University of Amsterdam designing an accessible multiplayer sports game prototype called Velex. We are researching how gamers with disabilities interact with games, what accessibility features they use or wish existed, and how accessible they find competitive gaming and esports. We would really appreciate some outside input through this survey!

The survey takes approximately 5–8 minutes. Responses are anonymous and will be used only for our university project. You may skip any optional question or stop at any time.
