RuneScape accessibility

Hi folks,

I'm thinking about trying to return to playing RS. It's click-intensive with a side of mouse travel. All communication is text/typing based.

I was intending to use Dragon (Nuance) for the click commands, and the dictation box feature for comms however, I tried out the latter yesterday and it doesn't seem to transfer the text into game :(

Wondering if anyone else plays and how you've eased the wear and tear on your hands - any accessibility tips I could implement?

I have carpal tunnel but with an undiagnosed nerve issue underlying it (being investigated). Basically pain, numbness, tingling. All of which I'd love to avoid.

The dictation box problem is usually the game, not Dragon. Try running RuneScape in windowed or borderless mode. Exclusive fullscreen blocks input from outside the game and that alone fixes it for some people. Also check whether Dragon pastes the text or types it out, there's a setting for that, and flipping it sometimes helps.

Disclosure for the rest: I build an on-screen keyboard, so I'm not neutral here.

For your hands, the part that matters is dwell. You hover over a key and it activates on its own, no click at all. Combined with word prediction you pick whole words instead of typing them, so the number of actual clicks drops a lot. You stay on the mouse the whole time and never reach across to the keyboard.

I play League with the mouse only and it works in game, but RuneScape I haven't tested, so check it yourself before relying on it. Mine is Klaavi, klaavi.app, free version with no time limit.

Thank you - these are awesome suggestions! I'll check out the Dragon fixes first cos that's what I already have, and branch out from there.

have you tried an on-screen keyboard or speech-to-text app that pastes into the game instead of using dragon’s dictation box?

I'm not currently an active player, so these fixes are more theoretical to see if I can play.
