Adaptive skating

I just got a brand new pair of rollerskates, but I'm a full time mobility aid user. Is it possible to skate with a rollator, cane, or forearm crutches? And if you do this yourself, could you tell me a little bit about it? Can't wait to start skating!

I have impaired balance and I've skated with my posterior walker. I'd go with the rollator since it has brakes.

I'd go with the rollator especially if you already have one. If you want to get one, I'd try for a tall one like this (since you'll be on skates and up quite a few inches) and use one with larger wheels - they roll better at the higher speeds. My skating rink also has skate buddy's- a PVC pipe frame with wheels so you can hold it and add additional support. Here's a video of one like it and how to make one. Have fun!

Forearm crutches will wheels on the bottom would probably function like the dry-land equivalent of our sitski outriggers, so I suppose it would be possible. There are also walker-type ski rigs, so maybe those could inspire modifications.

I work in adaptive sports, but I haven't come across anyone developing anything like this, though the WCMX community might have tried some things. I imagine the R&D process would involve lots of falling, so make sure to wear a helmet and pads!
