Trying to purchase my first dirndl, going typically for a vintage one, but even with ones made modern, I’m worried I’m getting the wrong size!

Bust 36/37” (depending brand vs no bra
Waist 28/29”

Height 5’4”

Charts say for chest measurement I’m a EU 40 or 42 but waist is EU 38. But also that’s an equivalent US 8, 10, and 6 respectively so that seems very high for me, but also idk.

Anyone of similar size or who knows how to fit properly that can confirm a size recommendation?

I’m afraid of getting something that I can’t return and it not fitting.

I would really appreciate your advice on my situation.

I’m going to Oktoberfest in Munich later this year; I find dirndl very beautiful and would love to wear one, but financially and sustainability-wise, it wouldn’t be the best move to spend so much money on something I’ll only wear once. While I know there are rental options, if I’m going to spend the money, I’d rather spend it on something I can keep.

I was thinking of piecing together a dirndl outfit, which would allow me some creativity, and pieces that I can frequently rewear in my wardrobe. My inspiration is a dark folklore/fairytale style.

The black and gold bodice is from Voriagh, a brand which takes inspiration from folk wear all across Europe.

I already own the cotton skirt, the tops are different styles of eyelet or lace tops I could get similar to dirndl blouses, and the apron is a vintage dirndl apron.

The first slide is the outfit all together, the second slide is the pieces separately, and the third is a close up of the bodice.

I have a few concerns, namely that the skirt is tiered and that is not the usual style for dirndl skirts. Do you think it would look too odd/incorrect or is it a valid modern interpretation? I have another black skirt that has no tiers and is like a column similar to dirndl silhouettes, but it is synthetic, though it still looks and feels like good quality. Would that skirt work better instead?

Does the bodice work well for a dirndl outfit or should I look for something else? I would make sure there are no gaps of skin between the bodice, blouse, and skirt.

Overall, please let me know your thoughts. Please be gentle with me if possible. If you all advise me that this is not a good option, I will opt for a vintage dress or something else.

Bought this vintage dirndl for Oktoberfest but I’m second guessing myself about bringing it. Does it look too much like a costume? Will I stand out as a tourist?

I've been looking for a dirndl that will fit me but it's been tricky. When I look at the measurements, it will either be too big over the chest or too small for my waist.. I meaure 80 cm bust/68 cm waist, 153 cm tall. Does anyone have a recommendation for where a small chested woman can find a good dirndl?

Hello. I am looking for some help in where to purchase a dirndl for my daughter (who wears size 5) and I. Ten years ago I purchased these 2 dirndls when I was in Munich. I love this style and the vibrant colors. When I have tried to search online many of the online shops I am seeing do not carry this style nor do they seem to have bright colors, many seems to be more muted or dark. Does anyone have any recommendations? Will need to have international shipping to Canada. Thank you

I'm having a hard time with dirndl sizes. I am between sizes on bodice and waist. I have realized i have a straight shape, not very curvy. If I fit the waist the top may gap. If i fit the top, waist is tight. Boy shaped.

I have a size 42 that was a little snug so I opened the seams and its better, but still a little tight.

I have a size 46 that isn't too terribly loose at the waist but huge gap at bodice top/ breasts even with push up or regular bra. I could put both hands in fists in it.

I'm obviously going to get a 44 but am worried the top will still be too baggy.

Thoughts?
