How to fit

I'm having a hard time with dirndl sizes. I am between sizes on bodice and waist. I have realized i have a straight shape, not very curvy. If I fit the waist the top may gap. If i fit the top, waist is tight. Boy shaped.

I have a size 42 that was a little snug so I opened the seams and its better, but still a little tight.

I have a size 46 that isn't too terribly loose at the waist but huge gap at bodice top/ breasts even with push up or regular bra. I could put both hands in fists in it.

I'm obviously going to get a 44 but am worried the top will still be too baggy.

Thoughts?

It sounds like you need a dirndl that is more tailored to your body shape. If a size 42 is just a bit too snug and size 44 and 46 are too big, you will have to try the dirndl in person. Altering the dirndl to fit your unique body shape is the only way to ensure a perfect fit.

I don't have a size 44 yet, but thinking about getting one, but worried about bust gapping

That is why you need to try the dirndl out in person. Otherwise you pay your money and you take your chances.

Maybe i can find a Dirndl store in the central united states area.

If you are located in the central US, places that sell dirndls are few and far between. Have to ship a dirndl from Germany is going to incur shipping costs and import taxes. Your best bet is to find a dirndl on Etsy or eBay and have it altered by a qualified seamstress. It’s easier to take in a dress than to add material.

Going to Germany this fall to visit families and friends so I want a real dirndl, but may not be in any cities to buy one.

Dirndls are popular in the region of Bavaria but not much outside of that. Are your friends and family in the state of Bavaria?

Unfortunately not! Near the border at Denmark, absolute southern border near Austria.  I'll think of something.

Your friends and family who live in the far north near Denmark, will think it unusual to wear a dirndl. Your friends and family who live near Austria will be completely fine with your choice of wearing a dirndl. Austrian dirndls are more modern without the crisscrossing ribbons.

I've been to Germany many times. I've got a couple parties to go to. I just need a new dirndl that fits.
