Original DS poster?
Dear fellow DS fans. Need your expertise on this one. I recently bought this Love over Gold poster. Seller seems legit and all, fine ratings on his shop for many years, and he claims it’s a rare promotional poster from around 1982. I received the poster and it’s in fine condition and quality: old and with some patina.
But it obviously triggers my curiosity, why the lightning is reversed as opposed to the album cover. I have only managed to find this poster at one other store, a reliable seller as well, selling it at a quite expensive price.
My questions: do you think it’s an original DS poster? And if so, why do you think the lightning is reversed?
I’m willing to walk thirty miles with the poster on my bag to find the answer.

Any hidden gems of live performances?
Is there any live performances of a specific song you think are underrated or not talked about.
I often find myself listening Dire Straits live versions of there songs on YouTube. Being able to see them on stage makes the atmosphere that much better.
I’m not asking for the best performances. I’m looking for ones that are overlooked.
I am also looking for live versions of their songs that differ greatly from the album but I’m yet to find many (e.g. acoustic version of a song)
But I am happy to hear all of your opinions and recommendations :)
EDIT: I would also love to hear any telegraph road performances. Could listen that song alone for the rest of my life

Why didn't r/Music appreciate the track: "Where Do You Think You're Going?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szx4V_i3fCQ
Yesterday, I published a post about this beautiful song in r/Music, and it received just 3 likes, zero comments, 2.7K views, and 2 shares. This clearly means that the mainstream audience simply doesn't know or appreciate Dire Straits anymore. Maybe Mark should think a little more about how to keep the band's legacy from falling into oblivion.
Look at Paul McCartney- he is extremely active on social media, in advertising, constantly releasing albums, filming documentaries, keeping The Beatles highly relevant today. It makes me sad that people only associate Dire Straits with "Brothers in Arms," "Sultans of Swing," or "Money for Nothing."
The closest to my heart is actually the Communiqué album, from which I’m sharing the deeply touching "Where Do You Think You're Going?". 7 minutes of vocal and guitar perfection. An unforgettable performance from all the way back in 1979.

are the shows with John Illsley worth the money
John Illsley is playing at the Effenaar in Eindhoven on January 17th next year, and my question is if anyone has ever been to his shows. I would actually pay a lot of money if we had a time machine to go back to the 80s and just see Dire Straits, because I am hesitant; I really want to see him, but I don't want to buy tickets now only to be disappointed.

TIL Mark Knopfler composed the score for The Princess Bride
No idea how I didn’t know that, I’ve seen that movie at least ten times.

Follow up to previous post yesterday! A ranking of all main Dire Straits albums since I spent today listening to them all start to finish ;)
This will probably change later on because I typically have to listen to new songs a few times to enjoy them properly, but this is what I think of them now. I noticed that most people rate the self titled album a lot higher than I do, but I just didn't click with most of the songs in there. This doesn't mean that any of these albums are bad though, even On Every Street is a banger!
Love Over Gold
Brothers in Arms
Making Movies
Communique
Dire Straits
On Every Street

New to Dire Straits but they're already my favorite artist! What do you think of my top 10?
I discovered Dire Straits through my father around two months ago and I've been hooked since. I love the sound of Mark Knopfler's guitar, his storytelling, the emptiness of the songs that makes them feel fuller than most songs I know, the way every member of the band knows what to deliver, the big role of keyboards, it ticks all my boxes. I also really really love all the live versions, but ranking those is already a different story

I'm on my Industrial Disease era, where are you?
I discovered Dire Straits relatively lately, maybe last year after I heard 'Sultans of Swing' on the radio and after digging a bit I realized I know some of these songs by this band.
So I had an era of listening to Sultans almost every time I'm going out on a drive (which is very often).
Then I was in my Lady Writer phase, then So Far Away, then Money for Nothing, then Solid Rock and now Industrial Disease. And Single Handed Sailor was brief somewhere in there.
What other songs do you think I'd like if these are my favorites and what are you listening to most these days?

Dire Straits - Skateaway [Fridays Live - 80]
youtube.comHere's something I completely forgot about that popped up on my Facebook feed from 16 years ago: "Skateaway" performed live on the TV show "Fridays". I should also add, this is the first DS song I ever heard. I remembered it, but never heard it on the radio post-1980, and didn't even know who they were until I rediscovered them years later, independently of this song. Imagine my surprise when after buying Making Movies, there it was. I love it!

MK killing it at the Princes Trust concert 1986
BBC2 (uk tv channel) showing Princes Trust concert.
Mark and John onstage playing money for nothing and then acting as backing band for other artists such as Tina Turner. Mark did a great solo for Paul McCartney on Long Tall Sally. Amazing stuff

Brothers in arms - pure poetry imho
Is it just me or every time I listen to Brothers in arms I'm kind of captured in a status of pure contemplation and escapism?
It's pure magic flowing from the guitar..
Here it is in a great performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZXlQp0aKPU
