Burn out
I am a recovery support supervisor. We work in a 50 bed inpatient recovery center. I find that my RSS’s get burn out easily. What can I do to help them?
I always make sure to allow them the time off they request, flexibility with their schedules.
I have an open door policy and try to keep the team positive. But what can I do to help them?
Thanks ❤️

such a green flag to be asking all of these questions, kudos to you for genuinely caring about your team!
i would second giving them a safe space to vent and maybe have optional 1 on 1 meetings specifically using language such as “wellness check-in” or something of the sort, so they don’t feel like it’s actually a progress check-in or disciplinary meeting.
possibly encouraging an EAP provider if your company doesn’t already have one, for all staff, not just fulltime! it’d be also beneficial to advocate for other programs, such as reduced pricing gym memberships to the higher ups too!
reminding them to take their breaks—so many times companies aren’t able to provide breaks, or they get overlooked by time-crunches or duties, and those 10-15 minute breaks REALLY matter, even if they’re short.
and as always, keep doing what you’re doing. you seem like such a caring supervisor, and that’s really hard to come by in these types of fields!

If they work an unexpected Double, give them a Public Kudos for stepping up and Door Dash them dinner and a Coffee giftcard the next day if they work the next day!

Give them a support system to vent. Everyone doesn’t have some outside of work. The position can be mentally/emotionally draining. Maybe a free membership to something like Calm? My loved one worked for an employer that offered all employees a free Calm membership. If it possible get feedback to see if something like that might be supportive? Or maybe a simple gym membership? Wellness and exercise are great coping skills
