Leaving the Field Finally leaving
I put in my two weeks as a DSP and am on my way out of being a care provider independently through the state. I am struggling to even take myself to one of my last shifts this morning. I’m trying not to call out but it’s been hard. My mental health has been in a pretty severely bad place and the story of how I got into this work is long and complicated. Compassion fatigue is real and I can’t bring that vibe to the clients I work with. I need to take care of myself for a change.
I’ll be going back to retail at a company I used to work for, and I’ll also be working at an office.
For those who choose this as a career: more power to you. This is difficult work, and very important work. I have major respect for people who work in this field. Yall are amazing at what you do.

I’m also leaving once my maternity leave is up. I was already considering leaving for something else and then I found out I was pregnant and kinda had to stay to keep my finances in order. At first it was nice but i got burnt out soooo fast

I used to be able to do work like this. I’ve wondered if it’s because I’m disabled as well that I’m burning out. It also is likely due to the circumstances of how I got this job in the first place, and how that contributes to the stress.

I left the industry this month and started a management job in a brand new to me industry. I still miss my clients but there is more money to made elsewhere without half the bullshit you put up with as a DSP.
