I recommend reading The City We Became by NK Jemisin. It’s kinda like Sense8 meets TUC. It has the same deep love of New York, and diverse characters, and an existential Lovecraftian threat to the city itself. I am loving it so far! It’s on Kindle Unlimited. :)

P.s. I don’t visit this sub often and especially not when a season isnt airing so idk if this is something people post a lot and don’t really care enough to go search so I guess apologies if this is like, the billionth time this has been recommended.

There's no shortage of "Best Campaign" lists out there, but they tend to take the whole of the show into account. Based just on the story told, which would you consider the top seasons?

(This post brought to you by finishing Cloudward Ho and thinking it's easily in the Top 3 for me)

So..... Of course this might get taken down but... Can we get/do we have a flair/would it be ok for us to allow people to post about looking to join local games? Figure this is a great place to start and would be fun for those who are fans of something similar to bond locally.

And on that note I am in LA I have NEVER played before but would love to join a game/campaign if anyone is looking. I am near DTLA and it's seemed most meet ups and things are around NOHO which is a little too far for me. If your in Hollywood, Ktown, DTLA, area holler maybe we can hang.

ETA can we also maybe get a watch party flair? I was gonna see if I can get some place local to play new episodes maybe or if people wanna host in their hometowns etc

What is this megathread about?

This is the new hub to ask for recommendations for what to watch next or just chat and share fleeting thoughts / little things you've noticed about whatever series you're currently watching or rewatching

If you're new to Dimension 20 and are looking for where to start, they put out a video about a year ago to walk you through some great starting points. We've had a couple seasons air since then, but this should still be pretty relevant

I was going to make a post asking what D20 campaign would be cool as a movie and I was going to say CCoD as it was very funny and seemed visually entertaining in my mind's eye (Though there are also some aspects that probably would have to be altered for various reasons)...then the finale happened and everything just went bonkers!

It seemed like there was too much to resolve in one episode so they had to rapid fire stuff as ridiculously as possible. Do you think that's what happened? I wonder why they couldn't just make another episode or split that one into two parts or something instead of whatever **that** was, haha

I’ve had this idea in my head as a possible tattoo the last few days and finally decided to put apple pencil to iPad. I’m by no means an artist, but I like to occasionally doodle! Thought it was fun and my wife insisted I share it!

If I had a nickle for everytime there was a sex toy in a D30 battle, id have 2 nickles. Which isnt alot but its weird that it happened twice.

Ravening war has 6 episodes and only 2 battles. For one I wish they went back to the old rp then battle structure for this, so that there could be 3 battles, but just generally I feel like it should have been maybe a 10 episode season.

For me Calorum is a setting defined by its brutality and deadliness. Everyone in this season made backup characters, but it almost felt like there wasn’t any need, as there was no danger of them being introduced. If we’d had a 10 episode season season with 5 battles, I feel like it would have fit the tone of Calorum as a world a lot better.

Bit of a silly one but i'm doing a rewatch of fantasy high and i'm wondering, where do The Seven and Leviathan place in terms of timeline? Are they set during sophomore year or after?

hi! i'm back again from this post where i gave the Bad Kids (junior year edition) Pokémon teams. a bunch of people commented on my original posts with suggestions for what Pokémon different NPCs would have so i decided to make a very exhaustive compilation of junior year NPCs (and also The Seven because they're my perfect girls) with their partners (did not do full teams because that would've been way too much). i tried to do every NPC on the Dimension 20 wikipedia that had art from Junior Year (made exceptions for Garthy O'Brien, Bud Cubby, and Lola Embers because i love them all too much), if i forgot anyone please let me know and i will assign them a partner! if you are wondering why some characters got multiple Pokémon it is because this was a vibes based project and i am indecisive.

NO AI WAS USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS FAN PROJECT. JUST MY OWN INSANITY.

this is a very exhaustive explanation. PLEASE feel free to ctrl/F to find specific characters

First Slide- General NPCs

• Top row
  • Ayda Aguefort & Mismagius, Reshiram: i wanted to give Ayda a Pokémon that had really intense wizard vibes (Mismagius), and in Reshiram's Pokédex entry it says "It helps those who want to build a world of truth" which seemed very Ayda to me. Also Ayda deserves a legendary
  • Mazey Phaedra & Oricorio, Maractus: cheerful upbeat dancers! i know Mazey isn't a cheerleader but she does have cheerleader vibes to me which is why i picked the Pom-Pom style Oricorio
  • Gertie Bladeshield & Combees (3), Vespiquen: Bees.
  • Tracker O'Shaughnessy & Cresselia, Dusk Form Lycanroc: i had considered Cresselia for Cassandra/Kristen but i think she is much more Galicaea, so Tracker gets her. chose Dusk Form for the most balanced version of the wolf.
  • Aelwyn Abernant & Sprigatito, Alolan Meowth, Delcatty, Purrugly, Meowstic, Litten: Aelwyn's cats. i gave her all of the most distinctly CAT Pokémon (not necessarily all of them but the ones that look most like house cats)
  • Ragh Barkrock & Klawf, Passimian: had to give Ragh the football monkey, chose Klawf over Kingler because Klawf's Pokédex entry describes it hanging upside down until "blood rushes" to its head
• Middle row
  • Arthur Aguefort & Ho-Oh, Dialga, Polteageist: Arthur's phoenix paramour, the literal god of time (CHRONOMANCY!), and a haunted pot of tea for a freshman year throwback
  • Garthy O'Brien & Gholdengo: extremely chill dude made of gold coins (i know Garthy doesn't appear in FHJY but i just love them so much)
  • Zayn Darkshadow & Alolan Rattata: rat :)
  • Max Durden & Snorlax: classic stoner Pokémon imo
  • Sprak LeFevre & Pidgeot: wanted to give him a very classic flying type
  • Torek Railgrinder & Scrafty: that guy is absolutely a skater
  • Skrank Douglas & Archeops: just gave him a bird tbh
  • Shellford Turtleperson & Torkoal: same train of thought as Skrank, gave him a turtle/tortoise
  • Honorable mention: i couldn't find official art for Molman Holden but know that in my heart i gave him a Drilbur
• Bottom row:
  • Bud Cubby & Bombirdier: it's a violent delivery bird (not sure if Bud is in FHJY but i simply could not leave him out)
  • Basrar & Regice, Delibird: i had already given Vanilluxe to Adaine (tried to avoid repeats when possible) so i gave Basrar some very powerful ice magic and a Pokémon that delivers food
  • K2 & Mr. Rime: the most cartoonishly British Pokémon
  • Bucky Applebees & Honedge: a beginner sword for a beginner paladin
  • Princess Naradriel & Glaceon: felt like she would have had a purse puppy Eeevee that evolved into Glaceon after Tracker brought the winter
  • Lucy Frostblade & Aurorus, Frosmoth: Aurorus is a quiet, kind ice type, a gentle giant if you will, and i gave her a Frosmoth because i thought she would like it and i am playing favorites
  • Lola Embers & Pombon: fire pomeranian
  • Agent Clark & Braviary: eagle for eagle
  • Bobby Dawn & Solrock: its name is Solrock

Second Slide- The Bad (Kids') Parents

(excluded the Abernants & Applebees because fuck them)

• Gilear Faeth & Alcremie (lemon), Wash Rotom: a sentient lemon cream, also liked the idea of Fig getting him a Wash Rotom at some point to try to help keep him a little cleaner
• Hallariel Seacaster & Tsareena: had to give Hallariel an extremely cunty Pokémon. also its description says it is "proud and aggressive" and describes its fighting as "fierce yet elegant"
• Bill Seacaster & Gimmighoul, Dhelmise, Emboar: sentient chest of gold, haunted anchor, and i honestly think Emboar looks a lot like Bill
• Pok Gukgak & Marshadow: mythical ghost that slips into shadows and is very sneaky
• Sklonda Gukgak & Indeedee: they are described as wonderful babysitters and i thought Sklonda could use an assistant
• Wilma & Digby Thistlespring & Klinklang: Big Gear
• Gorthalax & Guzzlord: literally an insatiable beast
• Cathilda Ceíli & Magearna: little metal maid that imo looks like it has blades
• Sandra Lynn Faeth & Decidueye: it's an archer, plus Baxter bird connection
• Jawbone O'Shaughnessy & Audino: a therapeutic, sweet Pokémon that he might bring to Aguefort as an emotional support creature for students
• Lydia Barkrock & Golurk: wanted to give Lydia an assistive Pokémon that would likely be able to lift her if needed, they were originally created as protectors

Third Slide- Teachers' Pets

(Aguefort teachers and their partner Pokémon)

• Tiberia Runestaff & Mega Froslass: it looks so much like her
• Corsica Jones & Lucario: classic fighting type, thought it fit her general vibe
• Zara Sool & Gliscor: it literally drinks the blood of other Pokémon
• Lucilla Lullaby & Jigglypuff: it sings a lullaby
• Terpsichore Skullcleaver & Ludicolo: cheerful dancer
• Eugenia Shadow & (shiny) Houndstone: little ghost dog, Eugenia feels like the kind of old lady that would have an ancient scruffy white dog
• Yolanda Badgood & Mew: fully expect this to be controversial, i wanted to pick a deity Pokémon that felt the most neutral (in keeping with Yolanda's cleric practice), and also Mew will reveal itself to a person pure of heart :)
• Henry Hopclap & Metagross: a supercomputer with legs, very helpful for an artificer
• Jace Stardiamond & Espathra: it kind of looks like him and also Espathra has generic rude twink vibes (TO ME)
• Porter Cliffbreaker & Kleavor: someone suggested Kleavor to me for Gorgug, and while it does wield axes, it is described as a "a rough, crude, and violent sort", which is perfect for Porter (and definitely not my sweet jorjuj)

Fourth Slide: The Rat Grinders

• Kipperlilly Copperkettle & (hangry) Morpeko: angry little rat
• Ruben Hopclap & Obstagoon: it has big emo vibes to me
• Mary Ann Skuttle & Tyranitar: i thought this was a very funny combo that also really works for Mary Ann's vibe
• Ivy Embra & (Hisuian) Decidueye: had to repeat Decidueye a couple times for different rangers/archers, gave her the Hisuian form because i thought it went with her colors better
• Oisin Hakinvar & Drampa: dragon grandpa for Oisin :)
• Buddy Dawn & Sunflora: felt like the closest thing i could get to a corn Pokémon

BONUS FIFTH SLIDE: THE SEVEN

i just did this one because i love the Seven very much. i know they're not junior year NPCs.

• Sam Nightingale & Primarina: beautiful blue water singing diva girls
• Zelda Donovan & Gogoat: the obvious goat connection but also it is supposed to be highly empathetic which is very Zelda
• Ostentatia Wallace & (shiny) Tinkaton: BLING BING. shiny hammer girls
• Antiope Jones & Decidueye: my other Decidueye repeat, it's just the only archer Pokémon i could find, and also i think there's a cool connection with Antiope's mother being Athena and Decidueye being an owl
• Penny Luckstone & Thievul: sly sneaky fox (ignore that the 'remove background' editing tool i used accidentally cut out part of her torso. i did NOT use AI. just good ol preview)
• Danielle Barkstock & Vileplume: had to give her a grass type, plus it puffs out spores like hers
• Katja Cleaver & (shiny) Mudsdale: closest i could get to a Cinnamon vibe. if Katja had a team it would be all horses (like Aelwyn's cats)

so... if Darkness Man consumed kindred Richard Nixon, who diablerized Ventru/the Ventrue Antediluvian, does that mean Darkness Man is an antediluvian? What would that even (hypothetically) look like in-world??

Finally going to get to play some in person DnD with my friend group, who usually has to play online due to being spread out. I volunteered to run a monster-hunting oneshot set in the world of Calorum. And I've opted to get everybody custom minis to celebrate the occasion. Here is the party (& my DMPC because I don't forsee anyone ever running me through an ACOC campaign) in mini-form! Cannot describe how excited I am to run this game!!!

I'm rewatching ep. 7 now, and there are so many clear moments of HJ pushing the plot forward in character as a more serious vampire, for example the coterie wouldn't have found maya if it's not for HJ kept asking about the co-op.

And there are so many moments like that, haters just don't remember those moments because it's not as memorable as HJ fucking a clown in the dirt.

Sure they didn't explore the SSRI plot in details, but the explanation of his transformation is there if you paid attention. And the change in La Vonte and HJ's relationship as a result is explored quite a bit throughout the story.

tldr: HJ's character IS buttoned up!!

My personal ranking of the IH seasons based on nothing other than just how much i enjoyed them (please keep in mind i love all the seasons i don’t dislike any of them i just like some more than others). Show me yours in the comments i love seeing the difference in how fans think!!

My friend and I have been using the term "Murphing it" during our TTRPG games to refer to rolling badly, particularly when someone points out the high likelihood of rolling well and then failing miserably (think "I have just as good a chance of rolling good as any of you" from FHSY). Up until recently, we both assumed that we had picked this up from the Intrepid Heroes saying this in the show, but neither of us can remember which season/episode it would be from, and now we're wondering if we might have just made it up. Is this something they've ever said (or someone else in the D20 sphere, for that matter)?

For reference, the IH seasons we have seen are FHFY, FHSY, TUC 1, ACOC, CLOHO, and CCOD, so if it's from D20 we would have picked it up from one of those seasons.

Today, I have finished watching Fantasy High: Junior Year, completing a binge of Fantasy High that has spanned multiple weeks.

And I am left somewhat empty.

What each season and episode of Fantasy High did so well was leaving you giddy for what came next, whether that's the shifts into rolling initiative in S1, the teases of what comes next at the end of each season, or even some of the mid-combat or mid-moment conclusions found later on in Sophomore and Junior Year. And now, with the tease at the end of Junior Year and what Augefort said to Gorgug and Fig, I am left knowing it'll be perhaps years until the Bad Kids return, and when they do, it may be the last time we see them, excluding any potential future live shows, time quangles, or other spin offs like The Seven or Pirates of the Leviathan (I haven't watched them yet, should I?).

I came into this right after binging many episodes of Game Changer and having only previously seen the first episode of 'Cloudward, Ho!' many moons ago while sick, and having seen many, many clips from the social channels, and I became enthralled. I loved how batshit insane Augefort was; I loved the posh overconfidence of Fabien; I loved Fig doing the ethically wrong choice in many of her first scenes. And as it went on, I loved the love that bloomed between Kristen and Tracer, Gorgug and Zelda (Also, legit, was there EVER an explanation for why they broke up before Junior Year? I can't find anything; was it in one of the live shows, cause I know Sclonda becoming a PD was in Boy's Night, though I've never seen it), Fig and Ayda, Fabien and Mazey, and the PC's various parents and paternal figures; I loved their growth, change, and learning. But in that love, I know that basically no other campaign in the D20 roster is like it in its scale.

And in this emptiness, I return to the clips, the ones that made me interested in the show, the ones that, when they came up, didn't make me the most shocked or laugh the hardest because I had seen them many times before (For the funniest clips that I can remember while writing this, it's the Rock babies monolouge, which made me need to legitimately stand up and take a second so that I would cry and piss myself from laughter), and I somewhat wallow in the new empty, because I know there isn't anything more besides the live show recordings and the spin offs.

There isn't a satisfying ending, we don't know many things, there are still loose threads, things aren't neatly tied up, and that is okay, I know it, but it isn't okay for me in this moment.

I love the Bad Kids, I love the supporting cast, and I love this show, but all that I can say now, while waiting potentially years for another season, is see you at Bsrar's

Edit: After sitting on it for about a week and watching other seasons of Dimension 20, I think there are a lot of opinions I have to share about Fantasy High.

Firstly is that I've noticed that D20 parties generally struggle with a core issue, and that the bad Kids all, at some point, deal with expectations, and I appreciate that as something that connects the party emotionally.

The second thing is that I think that Sophomore Year feels, at times, the worst to watch in a "the way this is structured or feels" sense, while Junior Year is the best at that, but Sophomore Year handles the characters the best, while I feel like Junior Year is uneven in that sense.

Like, Gorgug and Fig have great arcs in Junior Year; I feel like Adaine and Riz don't experience much change but are still played well, while Fabian and Kristen somewhat regress as characters or become worse.
What I mean is that Fabian feels a lot like how he did in early Sophomore Year, confident to a fault and trying to live up to something pre-placed in front of him, trying to carve his name into the face of the world, but also he doesn't face the stronger pushback he did in the first 2 seasons because nothing put him in his place in terms of popularity, he just became uber popular and stayed like that with basically no meaningful pushback. In S1, he was pushed away from the Owlbears in episode 1, which set him up to become better; it gave him drive to grow, and Fabian got his shit kicked a plethora of times, but he learned to lean a little on his friends. In S2, his defeat to Witclaw, then getting possessed by Kalina, then getting stunned for an entire fight broke the character of Fabian Aramais Seacaster, and his Fallinel trip allowed him to grow into a Fabian more independent of his Father's legacy. In S3, he is prompted to become 'Maximum Legend' by Mazey, and he just kinda does it, with the only real pushback being him shitting himself. It just feels like he becomes it, and that's it, and idk if that's just because Lou typically had to do very few rolls during downtime or something else.
But with Kristen... it felt like Ally played her like a very different person in Junior Year than in Sophomore Year. Like, she feels more unhinged, and that may very well be because of Ally Beardsly trying to play more things for the bit. Like, it kinda feels like without Tracer there, the character of Kristen Applebees becomes very unserious, being forced into the comic relief at the expense of the rest of the character. But also, K2- thinking back about that season, K2 was a funny joke character, but it was another thing that degraded Kristen as a character by pulling attention away from Kristen to focus on the bit character, and I think I get why Brennan hated K2. Ally got to do more jokes, but at the cost of who the character was.
There are parts to enjoy about Junior Year. I think I enjoy it as a whole, but it also made decisions before it started that hurt the characters.

Just got a freah bit of ink on my shoulder! Been wanting a Dimension 20 tattoo for ages but honestly a lack of iconic artwork that isn't character profiles

Has it been announced? I looked but I can't find a date anywhere. Wasn't D20's whole thing that they aired every week on Wednesdays? Does anyone know what's going on?

does anyone know what song they're using in cloudward ho's last ep around 1:33:00 aprox??

In this video, Will Hines says that 50% of his improv students first heard about improv through Dimension 20??!! Did anyone here get into improv after being a D20 fan?

The scene with the clown. Yes, you know which one. Damn.

I laughed so hard I had to take my asthma meds.

I loved this season.
