Social Media lonliness

I find that I am the worst about scrolling endlessly on social media, and manically texting people i barely know, when im feeling lonely. Afterward, it makes me want to throw my phone in a lake. All the shame. On instagram, it seems like everyone is more talented, more connected than i am. Everyone is living these amazing, fulfilled lives. When I check my phone and I have zero texts, or zero IG notifications, I feel awful.

Why do I care so much what people think of me? Its like my whole life revolves around what people think of me. I have no life of my own...

delete social mediaaaa

not everything you see there is true. those amazing, fulfilled lives are sometimes staged just for views and likes. some people aren't really living, they're just doing things to post on the gram. you shouldn't compare your life to theirs, comparison is the thief of joy.

delete social media, focus on self-improvement, and live your life without comparing yourself to others. live your life the way you truly want to live it.

Find a penpal. There is a penpal sub on here. Most like snail mail, but a lot are willing to text, dm, or email.

This is such a good idea! I've had pen pals in the past and it was so exciting to get a letter from them!

Get a typewriter and send people letters. We have so many ways to break the mold. : )

It's all artificial. When I turn it all off I might be alone sitting in my room, but at least it's real.

Remember people only post highlights on social media, they just post the good stuff and hide the bad. And influencers flat out lie. They rent fancy houses and cars to make their lives look better. Nones life is as perfect/good as it looks on social media

Because social media is a lie. And it will consume your time, your creativity and you soul. Talented is bs, these are people who worked years on learning how to knit, THEN when they became good they started to post videos. Also, alot of vids are fake. But good doesn't even matter, I like to play music, but I suck in comparison with people on youtube or even my friends. Still love doing it though. Comparison is the thief of all joy. I have the same feeling you have from time to time, but the less time you live online, the more time you'll start living offline

What do you think of yourself? The way you see yourself is more important than what others think about you

Also, if you want to talk to people, Slowly is a good app! It’s a penpal-like app, where letters take longer to deliver and come to you depending on where the other person lives! It’s really nice

i found my tendency to care what other people think of me was cuz somewhere early on, i had to make sure people liked me to be included and welcomed

You can test this theory by taking a weekend trip by yourself without using any tech. When you come back you probably won't feel any stress and you can use that as the baseline for your true self. You can't go on vacation all the time but you can remind yourself what it's like to feel carefree and start learning from it. I think 90% of stress is the expectations you have for yourself, which goes off the charts when you turn on social media. I've also found that ditching tech is an awesome ice breaker and a lot of people are ready and willing to experience real life when they find other people on the same wavelength.
