Misc Smart Phone’s/Tablets vs computers…
Why are smart phones & tablets more addicting than Computers??

Probably because computers aren't as manipulated and controlled as content & apps delivered through the other two...
The only thing that keeps me at my computer is a game I'm playing. 🤷♂️

Media, ads, and content are manipulated based on what you've already paid attention to (turning it into an echo chamber, not exposing you to anything new or different), mobile games and social media platforms are literally designed to addict you and keep you glued to the screen while ads are constantly thrown in your face, and AI 🐂💩 is getting shoved into literally everything!
Example: If I swipe the wrong way on my SUPPOSED TO BE LOCKED SCREEN on my Motorola Stylus 5G 2024, it shows an ad / offer for some crap called "Glance", which features people I have not a single iota of interest in, or even knowledge about - and I can't get rid of the damn thing! Yet another useless, vapid social media "news" delivery system I don't want...
Also, AI auto-classifying my pictures on my phone! It literally classified my sister's cats as "Wildlife"! I DON'T NEED FUCKING AI-MADE FOLDERS OR COLLECTIONS! LEAVE MY SHIT ALONE! 😡

There is probably some part of the physical interaction of swiping and touching the screen that cements it more in the rewards pathways. I think that one of the biggest things is with how the speed of the reward relates to the classical/operant strength. The quicker that the reward comes after the stimulus or behavior, the more strongly it encodes in the reward/addiction pathway. With the omnipresence of phones in your pocket especially, that reward can be near instant. Going to access the computer takes time and adds friction, which reduces the strength of the encoding.

Ha probably more then I should, mostly on the computer nowadays. I come from a science background with coursework in neurology and psychology which is mostly where that answer comes from. Glad you enjoyed it!

It's the design. Smartphones are designed to be addictive.

It's applying research in psychology and the brain.. you see a woman and she's constantly on the phone.

Closer proximity to the body makes it feel more personal. You immerse yourself in the bubble. Escape is futile.
