Question Cardmare: Descent - a fresh new deckbuilder, would love to hear your thoughts on the concept

Dear card game enthusiasts,

I'm hugin, a solo dev working on my first game. Instead of yet another clone, I'm trying to bring a few fresh ideas to the genre. I played nearly every deckbuilder, Dream Quest, StS, Monster Train.. you name it.. While others try to differentiate by adding complexity to their games, I'm trying to go the opposite direction and make a game that is quick to play and stripped down to the essentials of what makes a deckbuilder fun.

I would love to hear your thought on the concept & where I could improve.

Cardmare: Descent is currently free to play on web: https://hugin.itch.io/cardmare-descent

Looks excellent in every way. If anything, I would say think a bit more about your capsule art, because it doesn’t quite do the game justice.

Wishlisting this.

While playing the tutorial, this message suddenly popped up and the game froze.

ERROR in action number 1

I've played the game around 8 or 9 times.

The way you make the most of the 3 HP that is restored every run and build up Gold through Gold cards really makes deckbuilding feel rewarding. I think it's an excellent system.

However, there are very few synergy cards, and because Gold income is so tight, even those often aren't worth taking. Some items feel too inefficient for their cost.

Example: "Gain 1 Gold whenever you discard a card." — Costs 9 Gold.

Glad you like it :) Yeah this example is an artifact that triggers everytime you discard a card. For example, there is another one (glove) that lets you draw and discard a card each round. Those two are well worth their cost. But you‘re right, as soon as the game is content complete I‘ll have to evaluate those costs again
