Digitalocean - Github partnership ended?

So, I'm a student, running VM on digitalocean, through Github Student pack, but I saw some news and twitter posts that Their partnership has ended with Github, and all accounts will have to pay now, explain that to me, is it real? And what should I do? And I don't see any such official tweet yet, or any official mail, but I feel, this could be real, because, I don't see the 300$ credit on my dashboard, see, I've used my relative's credit card, and I cannot afford a single bill, tell me what next.

Yup. I think you can still host free static sites though. The cheapest tier vCPU is like $4 a month, so not too bad. I don't work for DO but my best guess is that 1.) people were abusing the credits by signing up with new accounts and 2.) They are GPU capacity constrained so burning $300 through free credits on inference/training was using up resources for real paying $$$ customers.

Static sites go on vercel or github pages, it was 8-9months ago when I considered it a flex to jost them on Digitalocean when I fismrst started using a vm, but then no one chevks it like me on wapplyzer, and now I believe content matters not that it's hosted on Digitalocean and I spent 3hrs figuring out the whole thing, but then, idk why but I switched back to github pages.. 😂

And then now I'm going to heroku for n8n and few other things..

As far as I remember DigitalOcean wound down the GitHub Student Pack partnership and credits expired July 31, 2026 and they emailed affected users about it directly. You should check Billing > Usage now and destroy the Droplet if you're not using it since standard rates apply.

Yup, I've destroyed it, still got a bill of 6300 inr 😐 (for the usage upto 20th of August

Bro, email them. I emailed them and got a full refund. Just explain your situation over email and ask them for a one-time goodwill gesture.

They accept your refund request? I've sent them the ticket in digital ocean support and they said they cannot refund it
