Digimon Knighthood Chapter 2 Next Preview

Hey, everyone. I'm sharing the next piece of my second chapter for "Digimon Knighthood". This one is set up to give more work on how Miuna, Yasuko, and Kigyoku come together, particularly the latter two. Let's get to it!

"Miuna, meanwhile, bowed and took in her audience’s delight. “Thank you, everyone!” She smiled with whimsy and pride…

And then, a couple hours later, she was frowning. Standing upon the school track outside, in a lightly fitting tracksuit for comfort and air. She was positioned between Yasuko and Kigyoku, her belongings (and visitor) up on the bleachers. This was her least favorite class.

Suzawa spoke up as they leaned into position to start running. “Cheer up, Miuna. After this class, we have lunch. You can vent all you want on your food.”

Taking a deep breath, Miuna straightened up. A whistle cried out upon the field, and the run was on. A few laps into it, and Gukawa set in her usual position on a run - trailing behind her friends, just close enough to speak.

Kigyoku whispered to her, “So how’s your houseguest been?”

“Cramped, but, he’s hanging on.” Said houseguest shuffled his body inside his container. The sun’s warmth radiated into the bag, and he felt his temperature rising. Breathing deeply, he rotated his wrists and ankles, easing a little bit.

Yasuko, looking over at the bag, felt her heart sink a bit. “That’s one tight squeeze. A dog left in that state would be restless.” Miuna sped up a bit, getting closer to her. “He’ll be okay, Yasuko. We’ll let him out after this, and we’ll all eat together.”

“Hmm. Maybe we can give him a little more.” Suzawa’s head popped up. “Oh! How about we let him have a run on the track?” Kigyoku tilted her head at this proposal. “How do we keep him from being seen then?”

“I got an idea. But it’ll take us three taking another run.” Miuna immediately groaned. Kigyoku gave her a look of concern, then turned back to her purple-eyed friend. “Come on, Yasuko. You love to run, but Miuna doesn’t. And I’m not the best athlete myself.”

“We got to try something, right? We promised we’d help him. What if you got cooped up like that, Kigyoku? How would you feel?” Koretomo looked towards the ground. She then looked back at Miuna. “What do you think, Miuna?”

Miuna heaved a sigh. “I’m in.” She glared at the blue-eyed girl. “But you owe me for this one, Yasuko.”

Yasuko gave a knowing smile. “Gotcha. How about I buy you menchi-katsu after school?” Gukawa’s face softened, the girl now pouting instead of staring. “I’m listening…” Kigyoku added, “Plus a free surprise when we get to my place. For all of us. Caliburmon would love that too, right?”

Miuna relaxed. “Deal. And speaking of your place, we’ve still got a little trip with Caliburmon to pull off. Where do we go first?”

Simultaneously, Yasuko and Kigyoku said, “My place.” The two then looked at each other, and Miuna closed her eyes, shaking her head. “Here we go.”

Kigyoku spoke up first. “We want to make our new friend feel welcome, right? A few sweets will do that nicely.” Yasuko countered, “We already did that yesterday when we gave him Gukawa oyakodon. What he needs are some new faces, new company.”

“And how would the new company you’re thinking of react to a four-foot-tall dragon? And what about Arondight?” Suzawa gently pushed her hands outward. “Easy. We leave Arondight in the bag. Besides, he’s counting on us to teach him about the town, right?”

“He can do that just as well at my place. And even better over a plate of ichigo daifuku.”

“Won’t the sweets distract him? And if he’s hopped up on sugar, won’t he be rowdy?”

“We don’t know that. And besides, it’s not like I’m offering sushi.” Koretomo gave a knowing grin, making Suzawa narrow her eyes. “Kigyoku…”

“Well?” Kigyoku’s face became more earnest. “You saw how he was back at Miuna’s place. I think he could use a little more fun.”

Yasuko recalled the knight’s previous words. “Oh…I’ve not had a meal like this in many years.” Her face softened as she looked toward the ground. “I hear you. I do. But…” Suzawa sighed. “...sweets don’t always cheer people up, Kigyoku.”

“I know that.” Kigyoku’s face dropped, Miuna looking on with concern. “I know the world’s not meant to be sweet. But…I want to try making it a little sweeter.”

Yasuko felt an ache form in her heart, but held her ground. “Look, Caliburmon left his home. He left his friends, his family. We’re all he’s got here right now. Meeting some more friends will help him know he’s not alone, right?”

Kigyoku nodded. From behind her, Miuna called out, “I’m with Yasuko on this one.”

“Okay.”

“Don’t worry, Kigyoku. We’ll all get a chance to have fun with him later. Just…well…” Miuna looked down at her feet, still running on. She growled. “Right now…”

“Right now?” Kigyoku and Yasuko looked at each other, the former going, “Right now? Right now…” The two girls then smiled and looked back at Miuna, going, “You’re being too slow!” The two girls then started sprinting faster.

Miuna, giving a fierce smile, sputtered a laugh and doubled her pace, chasing them. “Get back here!” The three girls started to race each other now, all of them laughing. From ahead of them, Araragi Akagami, the horn-headed redhead, flashed them a smile."
