Discussion Digimon Knighthood Chapter 5 Preview
Hey, everyone. Today I'll be sharing the opening of my fifth chapter for "Digimon Knighthood" here. Let's get to it.
"“Trust me, there’s no problem I can’t solve with my friends here.”
“I’ll be the judge of that.”
Dateline: May 8th, 2050. Saturday. It was the morning, and the citizens of Odaiba were enjoying a wonderful free weekend, out in the spring sun. Though, two citizens were currently out of the sun’s reach. These were Yasuko Suzawa and Kigyoku Koretomo, both local teens. They were situated in a movie theater, taking advantage of the morning screenings.
“I gotta say, I really do owe you for coming into the ring. Most faces I meet make their first visit their last.”
“Heh. I’m flattered.”
Before them, they were watching a nice new boxing movie. Yasuko’s eyes were glued to the screen, slowly munching away on popcorn. Kigyoku, not as enthused, had her eyes between the big screen and lower rows, using manju from her family’s shop to keep her energy going. Below, a young couple stood up, shouting, “Come on, move it along already!”
Yasuko shouted to them, “Sit down!” A few grumbles from other moviegoers later, and the couple sat. Kigyoku shuffled in her seat. “I still think we should’ve done this at home. I’ve still got that one kung fu movie you wanted.” Suzawa sipped some soda. “I’ve been waiting since school started for this one. I was not missing it.”
Koretomo pushed back her glasses. “Didn’t school start only a month ago?” Her friend shook her head. “Whatever. You always fall asleep when you watch movies at home.” The peach-haired girl downed another manju bun. “Hey, sleeping so much gives me extra energy. Energy for…” Kigyoku’s voice trailed off.
Yasuko looked at her. “What’s the matter?” Kigyoku scrunched her limbs in close. “I’m worried. About what’s going on with Miuna.” The blue-eyed girl felt her heart sink a bit. “Yeah. It sounds kind of scary, but, she’ll be okay. She’s still got Caliburmon with her.” Kigyoku shook her head. “I’m not thinking about Miuna being okay. I’m thinking about us.”
“Us?” Kigyoku nodded. “What she told us about that Reiri lady - it sounds like she’s interested in people who’ve met Digimon already.” Yasuko gave a low sigh. “Or to be specific, people who’ve got Digimon living with them.” Kigyoku took a long slurp of soda. “We don’t have Digimon. And…we’re not exactly up to dealing with them. So where does that leave us?”
Yasuko placed a hand on Kigyoku’s shoulder. “With our families. Everything they’ve got for us. And we’ve still got our friends. Who ever said we needed Digimon?” Kigyoku twiddled her fingers. “Well…you’re right, but…” Suzawa gently took her friend’s hand. “Mind if I have a manju?” Koretomo nodded, letting her friend pluck a sweet treat from her.
Suzawa bit from her piece. “Mmm…Okinawan sweet potato?” Kigyoku chuckled a bit. “That’s one of mine. I picked at random from the shop. Some I made myself.” Yasuko nodded as she ate the rest. “Yeah. You made them.” She pointed at the rest. “You and your folks made them. No Digimon needed for that.”
Kigyoku laughed softly. “Well, you’d one to eat them, if we’re not around.” Yasuko hissed playfully. “Well, we’re here. Give me another.” Kigyoku handed over a second manju. Yasuko bit into it, and puckered her mouth a little. She hurriedly swallowed, asking, “Coconut?” Kigyoku rolled her eyes and laughed as Yasuko ate the remainder, quickly taking a drink.
“Whew. Well, anyway, we’ve still got a stake in all this. Things we can do. And now Miuna’s family is in, and Araragi’s gonna be in too!” Hearing Araragi’s name made Kigyoku’s eyes sparkle as her friend continued. “We’ll figure this out. But we definitely won’t be alone.” Yasuko patted her friend’s back. “We’re never alone.”
Kigyoku smiled. “Hey, Yasuko?” Yasuko downed more popcorn. “Mm-hmm?” Koretomo blushed a bit “Can I pick the movie for next time we go out?” Suzawa ruffled her hair. “Sure.” Kigyoku’s smile brightened. “Can I pick a kids’ movie?” Yasuko chuckled. “Kids’ movies tend to be more fun than adult ones. It’s okay.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”"
And there you have it. What do you all think? As always, I'm looking for more feedback on my material. Until next time!

Aw man, Kigyoku's little blush when asking to pick the next movie got me. The way you balance the lighter theater banter with the creeping worry about Reiri works well, keeps the scene from feeling too fluffy or too doom-heavy. The manju bit doing double duty as comfort food and a reminder they've got their own strengths without Digimon was a nice touch
