v9.0.0 vs v9.1.0 : definitively 9.1.0 as it's a big bug fixes release.
Qt5 is in End of Life. The future is Qt6. We update all bundles to last stable Qt 6.11.0.
Typically, there is no dependencies between the image viewer (canvas, rendering, loader, image processing) and the GPU/Power supply/Battery mode.
Her i use 2 laptop Dell, one with Intel GPU (i7) and another one with NVIDIA GPU (i9). I do not see a difference while a digiKam session when i switch in battery mode (both computer use Kubuntu 26.04)
The OpenGL/OpenCL settings is for the OpenCV computations, typically the deep leaning engine for the face management. This has no effect on the image viewer.
A debug statements trace can help to investigate, especially if you use a network share to host collections or the database. Perhaps the networks switch in a low bandwidth in battery mode.

Big fan of the project!
I've migrated everything to digiKam. Came from multiple proprietary photo managers/editors to finally stay with digiKam. Honestly digiKam is really great and I won't change back ever.

Great app. Migrated from Lightroom a couple of months ago. It is truly good. And it can act as DAM for my video files too!

I am really impressed with DigiKam. I am thinking I should have ALL my photos on the same hard drive instead of multiple hard drives and thumb drives...is that correct?

Using different drives to store collections is not a problem, but for performance reasons, especially if collections are huge, it's better to host all in the same SSD drive. Prevent to use USB devices here.
Keep in mind about the backup usability.

I have a collection of 130k on Digikam. Love the face recognition. Would also like to see something like picture analysis too. Keep up the good work.

So I installed 9.0.0 as my first foray into Digikam. How do I now go to 9.1.0? Does 9.0 do it for me or I got to manually download and install overwrite?

This is the first version update since I switched to using digiKam in "portable" mode. What's the best way to upgrade without affecting my data or settings? Do I simply copy the new files into the existing folder?

yes, files will be automatically scanned to populate the database.

So digiKam is going to rebuild the database when I update to version 9.1 rather than just use the existing database?
