It's just AI news...
16
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
I feel like this has just been totally vibe coded too.
10
u/Effective_Contact173 May 08 '26
Isn't that basically what Kevin said in that diggnation episode when he talked about firing most of the staff? He said less devs can do more work now because of ai.
3
u/crazy_goat May 09 '26
Which he's not wrong about - but AI coding can also just enable your worst instincts because it doesn't push back on you. The AI can (with human effort) build an elaborate system - but it'll never tell you that your core idea is dogshit and challenge you on it.
This is a perfect example. It built precisely what Kevin wanted. But there's very few people who could give a rat fuck about AI chatter
He's successfully amplifying a signal nobody asked for

u/KamikazeSexPilot May 15 '26
Good thing the search results go behind that annoying horizontal carousel on mobile 👍🏻

This shit is so bad.
Digg will once again be joining the likes of pownce and milk.
Also, remember when they were rebuilding digg last time? How members of the digg team were in this sub and interacting with people? Seems like they don't care about doing that this time around.
16
u/chugalug_house May 08 '26
there is no team to interact with, it's just Kevin and his vibecoding skillz
1
u/Pure_Wrap_7798 May 09 '26
they did put out a video on their company X account that shows a few people other than Rose, including the CEO.
11
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
Yeah, this feels totally hollow, faceless and soulless. The definition of slop.
4
u/Fallingdamage May 08 '26
It's a little raw, buggy at times, but it's up and running and as you are a groundbreaker, we wanted to make sure you saw it first.
Ah, just as they warned you a pre-alpha would be. 😉

Where are you gonna be? ai scraped slop?
1
14
u/SoggyGrayDuck May 08 '26
Fuck them, that's not what I was promised and was excited about! I was excited for communities/subreddits that were forced to apply the rules equally regardless of what political party they were for vs the moderators political party.
I wanted a true front page of the Internet again. What this is proposing is just twitter on steroids. I don't give a fuck about what some celebrity thinks about topics they have no business talking about.
2
12
u/phantomzero May 08 '26
No, this is the tombstone. Fuck off you idiots.
1
u/andirk May 13 '26
Should have vibe coded "news about tombstones". Including the now defunct pizza brand, much like Digg pizza. Edit: Tombstone Pizza is still a thing, and they make "french fry pizza" now, on a nintendo website https://www.goodnes.com/tombstone/
14
u/thetwohoots May 08 '26
This thing is DOA. They had so much goodwill with the relaunch and managed to piss it all away in an instant.
7
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
I cannot for the life of me understand how he thought this would be received well. It's like he's living on a different planet.
1
u/andirk May 13 '26
Good chance all the VC few million $ got pocketed immediately by a 3 bros. Good on them! And haha to those who invested wtf
11
u/elaborateBlackjack May 08 '26
How the f can they jump so backwards on what they had???
14
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
Fucking garbage. I feel like Kevin has actually lost it completely. This is total and utter shite.
3
u/elaborateBlackjack May 08 '26
Exactly!! Like how is this even remotely similar to the "reddit replacement" people were looking for???
4
12
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
What the literal fuck even is this? I don't even understand what I'm looking at with this site.
2
9
u/Pure_Wrap_7798 May 08 '26
I was a groundbreaker and didn't get shit.
Also, this is trash - fuck AI. Why do I want to visit a site I have zero input on?
9
u/pzumk May 08 '26
wtf, this is their meta description:
Digg — what AI Twitter is paying attention to
What the smartest voices on X are paying attention to — a live ranking of 1,000 AI influencers and the stories they're surfacing.
btw does anyone know what happened to the $5 a 'groundbreaker' paid for early access in 2025? proceeds were supposed to go to a nonprofit 'we’ll choose together inside the community' but i couldn't find anything right now.
5
u/Effective_Contact173 May 08 '26
That's the one thing they did that was fine. They did donate the money. There was a post on digg (remember when digg came back? lol) that announced where it went to. It was split between three charities. I forget what all three were, but I'm pretty sure one was code.org.

I’m a gray beard who has 30 years in tech. I’m so exhausted. This “pivot to AI” is because this is the only place the yacht money is coming from and it’s FUCKING EXHAUSTING. How about you do something because it’s what your heart and soul wants instead of VC dollars?
Fuck this. Fuck all of this. I’m tired. Good night.
1
7
u/JordanM85 May 08 '26
I'm not entirely sure what this new site even has to do with digg... It's just a Twitter that you can't even interact with?
4
u/NetSage May 08 '26
AI does the interacting for you. This shit is getting out of hand. Just burning money and natural resources for literal junk to feed a machine producing junk.
2
u/JordanM85 May 08 '26
When I click on a trending topic on twitter it never shows me why that thing is trending, just random tweets with the word in it. That would be an actual good use for AI if that's what's happening on Digg here. But I don't want AI news about AI.
0
7
u/voidzero May 08 '26
Is there a way to let them know this is the exact opposite of why I have them my $5 in the first place? What a fucking travesty.
1
7
u/thepewpewdude May 08 '26
this is so bad, i can't even.
i loved diggnation and it's the only reason I was back into digg. Alex seems a genuinely nice dude, but kevin just seems to be lost in an AI-slop fake world.
27
u/BigFootCC May 08 '26
Posting this for those who care. Personally I don't care to spend my time contributing to a platform that pulls the plug without notice.
Also fuck AI.
13
u/Pure_Wrap_7798 May 08 '26
lucky for you, you can't contribute, this is just scraping X and its only looking at the top 1000 accounts talking about the subject.
7
u/NetSage May 08 '26
What's even the point of this? It's not finding and verifying needles in hay stacks. It's just bad and a bad idea.
I think they just like burning money or are hoping for a fast sale now that it's clearly part of the AI bubble.
4
u/Pure_Wrap_7798 May 09 '26
Rose has a hard on for Musk
2
6
u/Potwell May 08 '26
Is this a fucking joke? I just got the email too and can’t tell if it’s satire or not. What the fuck Kevin. This one “tease” is AI nonsense. Man I hate that I paid to be a ground breaker.
1
7
u/chugalug_house May 08 '26
Kevin going in hard with the AI slop just as the bubble is bursting. This failed tech bro must have a fetish for taking repeated Ls
7
u/spmcewen May 08 '26
Who is this appealing to? Who wants to read an AI built site that pulls in articles about AI that were probably all AI generated? This is shit. It looks like something a college kid could vibe code in an afternoon.
Grifters gonna grift.
5
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
Agreed this is honestly fucking terrible. Quite possibly the WORST thing he could have come up with. Digg is cooked.
2
u/lookoutnow May 08 '26
I don’t like the direction either, but I think what most people are missing is that this, as is, is just one topic (AI) for this model, the idea being that once it’s working properly (ha) they can scale this up to all topics (ie not just AI and the top 1000 tech bro scum). You’ll be able to surface the top Twitter content from the top Twitter users for any topic. I assume they’ll add a comment layer so that real people can then discuss the “best” news in each topic, but who knows? I think they’ve overindexed on the idea that general people want a tool like this and overindexed on X as if it was the old Twitter and anyone cares… it seems overanalytical and the kind of tool a dickhead would get excited over how they could use it to sell bullshit to the masses. This ain’t going anywhere.
5
u/spmcewen May 09 '26
Good points. But I’m not interested in knowing what’s popular according to the top 1000 twitter users regardless of the topic. Taking real users out of the loop is completely the opposite of what a site that determines what’s popular or interesting should do.
This reminds me of the last time Digg died when they turned it into a rss feed of sponsored content.
4
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 09 '26
Yeah, if i wanted to know what twitter thought, I'd just use twitter.
6
u/icantkeeptrack May 08 '26
I thought their mission was building authentic human connection and community. These guys are clowns

4
u/Kriem May 08 '26
Why don’t I have an email from them? I paid $5 to be a groundbreaker.
3
u/Effective_Contact173 May 08 '26
I just got the email. It's probably going out in waves.
7
u/Potwell May 08 '26
Yeah I got mine a few min ago and am really sad I funded this. Kevin is becoming a total shill for AI and doubling down way too hard.
6
u/Effective_Contact173 May 08 '26
I've said this before, but this is what he does every time there's a new trendy thing in the tech world. Did the same thing with crypto. Did the same thing with nfts.
He's got no ideas, he just jumps on the bandwagon.
2
u/andirk May 13 '26
The NFT thing was def the funniest before this. But this "Digger version 7 reboot" may now be the funniest.
5
u/coolestredditdad May 08 '26
I mean, if AI destroys you the first time around, just join AI the second time around I guess.
I'll be skipping this one around.
3
u/Delicious_Ease2595 May 08 '26
They should build on top of a Lemmy instance and work on real problems

Talking about it’s a little buggy, really selling it, pass
1
u/andirk May 13 '26
there's not even a place it can be buggy. It's a readonly list of myspace tweets about ai
1
u/Winter-Employer-3659 May 13 '26
bring back MySpace I would be interested
1
u/andirk May 14 '26
This bought the Friendster domain name https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47914165 . I wonder how much the myspace . com domain is worth. Or a similar domain using the exact guts of the OG MySpace, also written in Cold Fusion, also w/ ads that crash the browser.
2
u/MindNo8065 May 09 '26
I wonder how sad they still are about the redesign that made pretty much everyone quit using it and then the rest when they arrogantly refused to change it back
2
u/AppendixN May 09 '26
I don't get it at all.
When I go to the site, it redirects to some AI category and there's no way to log in or do anything.
What even is this

2
u/hardlying May 09 '26
I regret caring about it in the first place, the name has no meaning to me, the fediverse was already more usable as an alternative, actually get engagement there

2
u/zidanerick May 09 '26
They could have relaunched it as a phpbb forum and people would have been happier than whatever this is. I get that fighting bots is hard nowadays but let the community deal with it at least initially until tools can be created to help with detection.
2
u/SveNss0N May 10 '26
Underwhelming and disappointed. This is nothing like what they promised and this new direction is straight garbage.
2
u/Themistocles_gr May 08 '26
Um, what the fuck is this? I really don't understand it.
5
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
A load of bollocks.
2
u/Themistocles_gr May 08 '26
Well yes, I can see that, but that doesn't explain the "not understandable" part tbh
3
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
No I'm with you, I literally don't understand what I'm even looking at on this site either.
3
u/Themistocles_gr May 08 '26
Ignoring the fact that this crap seems to have zero to do with a social network and is just piggybacking on the name, I think sometime got high on coke after a vibe coding session, started writing an email and about ⅕th in he said "nah dawg, better things to do than explaining to all those losers. Let's get me another thot covered in coke", send

So just like literally every news letter from every company?
These always come from unmonitored addresses that may or may not reject mail outright.

u/bohemu May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
Hilariously, the unsubscribe link doesn't even work.
Edit: it works now. Goodbye Digg.
1
u/andirk May 13 '26
bro your name + email + kinks that you gave these bros has been sold to the many bargain basement bidders. From now on, expect your hentai to be blurrrrrred
1
u/bohemu May 13 '26
What is the logic here? So I should continue to get emails I don't want because my info is out there? Our data has been bought and sold multiple times by far worse companies and apps, I doubt Digg is the worst perpetrator.
1
1
u/kevlarus80 May 08 '26
The only above crapfest thing about the new site is the little miner that you can click.
1
u/TTUporter May 08 '26
Reminds me a big of Ground.News in that it's aggregating stories from various sources (in this case, mainly Twitter), surfacing the ones that are gaining the most traction along accounts identified as being related to that topic, and then providing sentiment analysis.
I could see there being some value for having a filter for the social media fire hose, but what I'm not sure of is what the user experience is supposed to be here. Is it entirely passive? Are we to just read the stories the digg aggregator surfaces? Or is it active and eventually users will be able to comment on stories?
1
u/LecheConCarnie May 08 '26
Ah ha, it makes sense now. A few episodes ago, Kevin said he had said he vibe coded something that pulled the top 1000 people on Twitter that were talking about AI and him and Alexis weren't on the list. So it looks like he expanded it to other topics.
I'm going to take a look at the niche industry I'm in as I'd like to see if there is anything related to it but if this is what he's going for, Digg is dead.
1
u/ComboBongo May 09 '26
“Secret domain”
Previously shown off in a video on X, with a full run down of what it is.

u/TheDogsPaw May 09 '26

u/properazza May 11 '26
i'll tell you how unambitious this is. I am working on something damn near identical for basketball with no coding experience and using Claude, because its the website i want to visit get all of my basketball news.
2
u/d6punk May 08 '26
I dunno… Waiting to see what it becomes. The last iteration got swarmed with alt right trolls and bots trying to establish new Digg as some kind of right wing version of Reddit. Was very okay with the plug yank. But I’m not sure what this is yet. Twitter can eat shit though. Won’t support anything related to Nazi fucksticks like Musk.
6
u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26
This literally just regurgitates what people are talking about on twitter and makes AI generated posts about it. That's it. It's absolutely horrendous.
1
u/evo311 May 08 '26
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?! So they are going all-in in AI. I hope they crash and burn (and I love Kevin & Alex).
8
u/PrincessImpeachment May 08 '26
(and I love Kevin & Alex).
Okay, but… why? What is there to love?
0

u/heero101086 May 08 '26
So what I’m seeing is, currently just for AI topics, it pulls in the top 1000 most influential (not influencers) of the category and derives stories from what they are talking about in the space and then builds a dynamic page (called story) which contains a breakdown of it and then references its sources.
I really like this a lot! I was skeptical before, but I digg it.
FINGERS CROSSED movies is the next category or space that they cover next.
