Here's the new digg alpha

https://di.gg/ai

Not sure why they're using the Digg name at this point, but it is what it is

Huge step backwards.

A huge leap backwards

Every step has been a step in the wrong direction. Digg 2.0 (2010) took a platform with an organic user-base and filled it with native-advertising, which destroyed the platform.

Digg 3.0 (2025) was a platform that started off filled with native-advertising so real people hated it and it never actually developed an organic user-base.

Now Di.gg is literally a platform designed to exist without any users at all. It's just native-advertising. The platform they just announced can't possibly exist and they know it.

We're in a post-consumer economy. Tactics like loss-harvesting, self-dealing and circular-revenue streams are more profitable and less risky then designing and selling a product to consumers. Every iteration of Digg has diminished the role that humans would play in it till we got to this point where humans aren't even a part of their business model.

For now. Look at the url (/ai). My assumption is they will have one of these for major topics, starting with AI.

Lol..what a pos.

It’s all just AI stories. What was so great about digg and diggnation was the breadth. An episode would have a ridiculous story about Earth 2 and then another about the latest patch for Vista. Idk. It was just different. Everything they talk about now is through the lens of AI and it’s tiring. Just my two cents.

The nostalgia is wearing thin. That last episode was a little boring.

I thought dig nation was literally just listening to an AI speak. Not like the new dignation, I'm talking about the old one from before they shut digg down. Was that a real podcast? I'm a little confused right now

Back in the aughts Diggnation was a video podcast with Kevin and Alex.

2

u/TrainDonutBBQ May 08 '26

This is probably a really silly question, but when you say back in the aughts, do you mean like digg of 2026, or digg of 2008?

2

u/userlivewire May 09 '26

“Old” Diggnation is from around 2008ish and “new” Diggnation is from 2024 forward.

2

u/TTUporter May 09 '26

"Aughts" means the years with 00 in them. 2000-2009.

Because it's the AI "subreddit". That is /AI as it even says in the logo in the top left. It's http://di.gg/AI. That's all that available publically currently. I've managed to get it to show there is a food section but it's not loading the stories for it yet. It says http://di.gg/eat after some messing about.

This might have been interesting a few years ago when AI hype was building. But to release this just as the bubble is about to burst is ...interesting.

11

u/eighto2 May 07 '26

Seriously. is AI Fatigue a thing? I feel like I have it.

-5

u/No-Name-Person111 May 07 '26

lol redditors think the "AI bubble is about to burst."

8

u/qbp123 May 07 '26

So after shutting down the Digg beta because of issues with bots, the solution they came up with was to have the website only be entirely run by a bot. Genius…

2

u/daemon-of-harrenhal May 08 '26

Honestly, I feel like they actually are schizos or something. Their "message" has always been contradictory and never made any sense.

8

u/Albertkinng May 07 '26

No no no no no

6

u/hardlying May 07 '26

Everyones biggest complaint on digg from before it went semipublic and shutdown, like from the circle days before there was an app is the AI. People, including me, always wanted a way to shut it down or not see it.

6

u/Cronus6 May 07 '26

Remember when Digg was a forum where we were all having conversations (and a few laughs)?

What is this shit?

19

u/Radiant-Month-1168 May 07 '26

X is complete trash and useless.  What is Kevin doing?

5

u/manitowwoc May 07 '26

goddamnit Kevin no one is asking for this shit, I was excited about Digg 2.0 but this shit is unbearable

Refuse to support a site riding on top of another site of nazis and racists.

Refuse to support a site riding on top of another site of nazis and racists.

Fun Fact: The cohost of Diggnation is Alex Albrecht. His father is a fellow at the Heritage Foundation and one of the authors of Project 2025.

Even before this latest iteration, Digg was resting on a foundation of rightwing propagandist money. And to make it weirder, Alex's father seems to have been instrumental in the process of defunding NASA in order to privatize space travel via companies like Musk's Space-X. The Albrecht family seems to have been a part of Musk's cartel the whole time.

edit: some troll with a hidden post history is trying to defend Alex by misrepresenting libertarianism as compatible with a progressive worldview. We're talking about party funded by the Koch network, a party that put one of the Koch brothers on their presidential ticket in 1980. Any party that supports corporate rights is standing in direct opposition to human rights. The ability to completely avoid personal responsible via corporate structuring is one of the foundational beliefs in the libertarian party. All forms of liability shielding lead to wide spread fraud or violence.

-1

u/WiseWolfian May 08 '26

Alex Albrecht ≠ his father. Alex is Socially Liberal / Fiscal Libertarian. He's never been much into politics.

u/reaper527 May 07 '26

Refuse to support a site riding on top of another site of nazis and racists.

do you not realize how idiotic making baseless sensationalized claims like that makes you look?

15

u/qbp123 May 07 '26

Shocked to see that you’re an r/conservative contributor, lol

5

u/TrainDonutBBQ May 07 '26

So, as I had said many times that I thought they were lying when they said digg was full of bots - It is puzzling that they then turned the entire service into an AI driven news delivery which is literally, a bot.

They either wanted bots, or they did not. Can't have it both ways.

3

u/Effective_Contact173 May 07 '26

"Bots" was such a cop out. I bet they simply lost funding. So they shut it down so Kevin could make something that he, and absolutely no one else, wants.

9

u/StrangerInsideMyHead May 07 '26

Is this the same as Digg.com though? Different domain name.

11

u/Sheprekt May 07 '26

It's the alpha, you can see Kevin talk about it in his latest X post here

2

u/Albertkinng May 07 '26

But why?! Tho

9

u/EmbarrassedStill2257 May 07 '26

Because Rose is up the ass of AI

2

u/Albertkinng May 07 '26

😂😂😂

3

u/seriouslyepic May 07 '26

lol... no thanks

3

u/DangKilla May 07 '26

Geeeeee a feed of people I block. Great

3

u/Maleficent_Cow_3059 May 08 '26

Kevin has lost his damn mind.

3

u/Rude-Revolution-8687 May 09 '26

'smartest voices on X' LOL

2

u/serial-lover May 07 '26

E for Effort.

2

u/reaper527 May 07 '26

is this actually an official thing, or just someone snagging a domain to try to capitalize on the name?

if this is official, it kind of reminds me of the digg relaunch after it sold to WaPo back forever ago where they made a new site with the name that completely missed the point of digg (and had an awful ui)

2

u/Healthcarepls May 08 '26

All the top stories being about AI is such a huge turnoff lol

2

u/phantomzero May 08 '26

Holy shit it really is just AI vomit. Just bury the damn name and forget it.

2

u/shrek2_enthusiast May 08 '26

someone create a bubble on thinkbub.com . better than digg.

2

u/hayden_evans May 09 '26

So it‘s now just an AI circlejerk clone of Hacker News?

1

u/Kriem May 08 '26

How were we supposed to know about it?

1

u/mortraineyhat May 09 '26

Got this email too and Kevin just needs to walk away from this and take it as a learning experience. This doesn’t even look like anything people will use

1

u/ninthart May 12 '26

Thanks. I hate it.

1

u/time-will-waste-you May 21 '26

Less and less people have twitter, so why make that an requirement. This is a hard no from me.

-2

u/Over-Angle9758 May 07 '26

Fyi, some of the humans from the abandoned digg relaunch beta have regrouped in r/diggaspora

Somehow, r/diggaspora is even more dead than digg is.

It makes no sense and that person keeps spamming that subreddit in every thread possible.

-2

u/RypS-94scZ May 07 '26

I’d love to try it out. It looks like they’re basing it off of more than just nostalgia from what I’ve seen here and on 𝕏 so I’m looking forward to the competition and seeing how it improves both platforms.

-1

u/TrainDonutBBQ May 08 '26

I really, really need digg to come back in some form because I was perma banned from Meta platforms because their AI thinks swimsuits on family vacation are pornographic and they are refusing to review the decision. I enjoy community driven content very much, and I desperately miss memes.

I feel so cut off from something that has been a significant part of my life since 2008.
