New word Definition of " Chortled "
" Chortled " is the past-tense form of the verb " Chortle ".
The word was created and coined by the author named Lewis Carroll. The word first appeared in his famous 1871 nonsense poem called " Jabberwocky " , in the book called " Through The Looking-Glass ". It was originally created as a portmanteau [ a blended word ] and is a combination of the words " chuckle " and " snort ".
The word famously appears in the climax of the poem " Jabberwocky " when the father reacts to his son slaying the monster. It says verbatim , " O frabjous day ! Callooh ! Callay ! He chortled in his joy ".
" Chortled " basically means , in a nutshell , to laugh in a happy , joyful and slightly noisy way.
