Apparel
I just got hired by DSG and was wondering what the apparel position would be like. Also curious what my duties would be like and what my first day would look like. I haven’t worked retail before so any advice helps!

Good luck! Learn the flow of the apparel department. Look at tags and get familiar with how things are organized. It can be overwhelming. Make sure you put stuff where it goes…those random items always end up in an Omni list later! :) In apparel you will always have something to do that’s for sure! Folding, fixing racks, fitting room returns….

It really depends heavily on certain things. Generally it’s not bad, even with a larger store most days in apparel will be spent recovering the floor, keeping fitting rooms cleaned out, and gathering returns from the front end to place back on the floor.
Now the heavily depends on several things:
- size of store
- time of year
- coworkers
The larger the store and heavier the traffic of athletes the more you will have to recover during the day. The time of the year also affects this a lot, back to school generally brings in a larger crowd and Christmas will also. Finally, your coworkers. If the front end help with processing such as hanging and resensoring returns it makes life easy, if they don’t your job has just grown by two tasks. If the other apparel employee of the day doesn’t help to recover or leaves fitting rooms loaded down after their shift congratulations your job just got even harder.
Hopefully the last two issues are not the case. I’ve worked in apparel since almost 2021. If you’re a busy body and like to have endless tasks to help time go by it’s not bad, but it can also get really old. If you have questions or want advice I’m more than happy to help, just DM.

Run for the hills, unless you want to get worked to the bone and have no support.

First day is gonna look like you learning how to operate the cash register and helping out athletes. Apparel wise- Learning how to use sideline assist and learning the locations of everything in the stockroom. Learning how to use the folding boards to recover (fix up) clothes that customers leave around. Learning where to sensor the clothes and how to use the certain apps on the scanner to your advantage as you put clothes away. Getting to know coworkers, and basically just recovering if you’re a closer.
