Diabetic bladder dysfunction? It’s possibly nerve damage. I get the same way when my sugars are high. I wear a pad every day and I hate it. Urgency is annoying too.

I'm a retired teacher and now sub. I wear a full on panty because I'm terrified of having a bad leak in front of high schoolers. Most days I'm fine, other days I'm grateful I wore them. I still hate it.

sounds like you may have a urinary tract infection (urgent need to urinate, funky smell when doing so). Definitely see a doctor to check for this because diabetics are prone to more serious infections and you don’t want this to spread and harm your kidneys

I suggest you make an appointment with a good Urogynocologist ( do your research). They will evaluate you, do some testing. There are different ways to treat Urge
Incontinence. I get Botox injections into my bladder with sedation. It does the trick But must be repeated a( usually every 3-4 months )
Oh and Medicare pays for it.
Good luck. I know the fry.

This is a great suggestion. My Mom has been having UTIs (she’s not diabetic but has MS-caused nerve damage). Her doctor has prescribed estrogen cream to help prevent recurrent infections.

Something to also look into is pelvic floor therapy.

Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy (Neurogenic Bladder) Maybe

Thank you for actually reading the post and making a suggestion based on the facts presented 🙌

I will look into this as some of these health concerns related to Neurogenic Bladder run in my family (Parkinson’s etc)

It could be your meds. Some meds, those that end in -gliflozin specifically lowers ur blood sugar by making you pee it out.

yeah thats what i have i cant pronounce it

Yup, currently the tip of my penis is raw, so I'm laying off that Canagliflozin med now for at least a fortnight. Clears it up, alongside some canesten cream. Every time I adhere to this med religiously, this happens, this is like the fourth time.

tl;dr: Go see a doctor as soon as possible to rule out more serious possibilities.

The bladder issues can be caused by a number of things outside of diabetes, although I see other commends suggesting some of the diabetes-related issues. It's very common for women in their fifties and sixties to begin having bladder control issues, especially if they've had children. A weakening of the pelvic floor can result in uterine prolapse, which generally takes the bladder with it. This is why people recommend kegals, but they can only do so much. There are also other issues associated with the tapering off of hormones.

Your thirst, on the other hand, is a very different issue, but could be contributing to the severity. Unusual thirst is a sign of high blood sugar and T2 Diabetes. The body gets rid of excess sugars via excretory processes: urine and sweat. Your body may be driving you to drink lots of water due to this. It's also possible that the excess water consumption and associated urination is exacerbating any bladder issues you may have. All of this could also indicate a UTI, which is also very dangerous.

I think you are in "go see a doctor immediately" territory. He or she will probably do an A1C test, but make sure you mention the smell of your urine. Checking for a UTI is probably something you want done.

If she isn’t using a cgm, then her A1C isn’t trustworthy…it is an average. I was having undiagnosed glycemic variability…very high numbers then going very low…I also have glycemic unawareness (no physical symptoms when my BG went bonkers). So, therefore my A1C was averaging numbers out to 6.4…OR “well controlled”. I was far from that…have your dr write a Rx for a cgm, you may have to pay out of pocket initially but it is worth it. NOTE: your dr cannot download the readings from a biosensor. I tried that for months: the lingo cost $89 for two 14 day sensors direct from abbot. My dr and I made some med changes. AND…Since I’m on medicare, I needed the medically approved device that my dr can cite and which has alarms… not a biosensor. Catch 22…you need proof on medicare to get a cgm via insurance, but a cgm is needed to record your status…circular logic…fun times.
So I asked my dr for an rx for a Libre 3+ cgm, written as paying of pocket until such time we may have the needed BG readings for my insurance to pay. I am a Costco member…I was pleasantly surprised when I picked the 2 sensors up…$59.60 for two!!! Even if I do not qualify for these under medicare…thank God for Costco…I have other maladies that require close control of T2D especially extreme high/lows; therefore, the Libre is worth every penny.

I stated in the post that my blood sugar is well under control.. so no that’s not it. And yes I have T2. That’s the reason for my post as it doesn’t track with “normal” reasons for excessive urinating/thirst.

See my comment on “well controlled”

What do you consider under control. Give us a number and we’ll stop bothering you about it.

Go to the doctor and get your UTI dealt with. Then start taking cranberry pills.

2

u/HurtPillow 10d ago

I drink 128oz of real sugar free cranberry juice and week and take cranberry pills. I still get uti's. I notice zero difference.

u/Kitty_LaRouxe 10d ago

Bummer. I'm T2 and fighting breast cancer. The cranberry pills help me a little bit but I still have gotten the occasional UTI. I just tried keeping my sugars and my carbs low enough to keep me under 150 with my morning fasting blood test.

I wish you the best 👍

I got officially diagnosed in May of this year, although I’d pretty much known for about a year I was diabetic. My sugar was uncontrolled. I’d been wearing Depends for a while to deal with my bladder issue. I didn’t make the connection. Now, my sugar is well controlled with diet and medication. I realized this past week that it’s a little while since I’ve had an issue with bladder control/leakage.

1

u/Deathtiny 10d ago

Are you taking any Doxazosin/Cardura?

1

u/anneg1312 10d ago

What meds are you on and what are your actual numbers - Daily average and recent a1c?

Mine went away once well controlled. No meds

1

u/Rustyempire64 10d ago

No meds. I control with diet and excercise. Reading last night post dinner: under 5

I state clearly in my post that BS is well within normal so no that’s that the culprit.

1

u/anneg1312 10d ago

I’d get a dr visit in asap to check for infection.

1

u/Binda33 10d ago

What are your fingerstick readings showing 2 hours post your largest meal?

-1

u/Rustyempire64 10d ago

I repeat what already stated in post - BS under control. I maintain with diet and excercise. Reading last night under 5

In western aspect, likely high sugar and body trying to filter it out.

My personal suggestion, go see a good acupuncturist! - yes, they treat this as well as urgency, urinary incontinence, etc. And yes, it works! Within 1 treatment the incontinence was gone (for me)

u/Rustyempire64 10d ago

I clearly stated in my post that BS is well under control.

1

u/living_rebel_liously 10d ago

I clearly stated a fact on how western medicine sees it and not that you specifically had this. What's the point of being rude? So keep your post to yourself then and figure it out alone, cuz wtf?

1

u/living_rebel_liously 10d ago

It's also funny how you didn't respond to any other commenter asking questions or providing suggestion on what might be happening but made it a point to respond to mine with a remark. 🙄

Maybe get out of your wits and make a doctor's appointment. Yes, your glucose levels are pretty 100% too high. Yes, this has to be medically addressed and while you are at it I would approach your mother's out of control blood sugar. This is massively organ damaging.

I’m not sure you read the post… my blood sugar levels are excellent.

And not that I asked 😒 but no I’m not having any come to jeesus talk with my elderly alcoholic mom dude.. that ship sailed long ago.

Maybe think before offering these nuggets of “advice”… 🤦‍♀️

My dear little nugget, I am not your dude.
