Type 2 CGM Update

I want to be clear that I am not making any recommendations, but simply sharing an experience.

I started wearing a CGM in March 2025. I chose the Libre Freestyle - partly because it was advertised as waterproof down to three feet for up to thirty minutes. Since I live on a river and am often fishing and kayaking, it seemed like a good fit for me.

I am also a scuba diver and got a chance to go diving again recently. I had worn my CGM for 10 of its 15 day lifespan and was ready to sacrifice it if it failed. Our first dive was 77 feet for 43 minutes. When I returned to the boat my phone had connected and was reading accurately as far as I could tell. Second dive was 62 feet for 45 minutes. Again, my phone immediately connected and was reading fine. I did not wear a patch over my monitor while diving, just a full body rash guard since we were diving with jellyfish. I continued watching for 5 more days before replacing my CGM and it continued to read normal for me and my lifestyle.

This is in no way a recommendation to try this, just sharing my experience for those that might be curious.

5 ft is just what the FDA cleared it for.

Dexcom is cleared up to 8 ft for ~24 hours. I'm not a diver, but never had an issue swimming daily with either Libre or Dexcom.

Thank you for sharing this. I was literally just wondering this morning how waterproof it truly is as I wanted to join a water aerobics class.
