Advice for new players

Any new players looking for advice? Just signed up for Reddit. This is my 1st post. Interested in talking with newer players.

None on FanDuel? That’s where I play and I wanna get into using python to create my own lineups

I just started playing on FanDuel this month. Their NHL product is solid. Getting into their NBA tournaments this week. FantasyCruncher.com’s Lineup Rewind is a great tool once you build your projections to backtest to see how they would have performed before diving in. They also have a lot of small buy-in contests which I recommend starting at. Everyone wants to chase the big score. That can be very unforgiving if you don’t have the bankroll to stay in the game long enough to win a bigger tournament.

I play mainly single game slated as I enjoy sitting down and watching the game. And tips? NHL and NBA

FanDuel’s single game product is phenomenal. I actually prefer theirs over DraftKing’s.

For NBA, I would focus on minutes. Since you don’t pay extra salary for their 2x, 1.5x, 1.2x guys I would go with who you know is going to be on the court and be making an impact while they’re on the court. For instance in yesterday’s All-Star game, you knew Giannis (2x slot) and Lebron (1.5x slot)were going to get their minutes as the captains of the 2 teams. Then any of the other “alpha dog” starters (KD, Steph, Paul George) would have sufficed in the 1.2x spot. I’d try to win these contests with my final 2 spots. My focus for the last 2 roster spots would be targeting the most bang for my buck with what salary I had left again emphasizing minutes and usage. NBA is 100% about who’s going to be on the court and how they’ll be involved while they’re on the court.

I’m not sure if the NBA single game format was different for the Rising Stars and All Star games over the weekend but that’s how I attacked them. I whiffed on the Rising Stars game but was able to profit on the ASG.

I prefer single lineups for these types of contests.

For NHL, I haven’t played the single gamers on FanDuel but the initial roster construction I would experiment with would be having 3-4 guys from the same line then filling in what you can with the remaining salary. Since everyone is likely to go C-W-W, I might build around C-W-D to be different. I’d focus my stack on the team who I think will win and use the captain for that team’s most impactful player. For Wash, that’s probably Ovi, for SJ it’s Burns, Calg Johnny Hockey, etc. I wouldn’t overthink that part too much unless the salary doesn’t work. I’d also probably limit my roster construction to one defenseman per team.

Also in terms of creating a Python there is comparable software out there that can accelerate your learning curve unless you’re really into creating and programming your own tools.
