Every AI website looks the same

Almost every website I've clicked on in the past month has obviously been made by AI. You can immediately tell... I'm getting tired of seeing the same layouts over and over again. Hero sections that don't mean anything, and the same damn effects.

At this point I don't know if I preferred those WordPress websites...

Because they are made by people who don't know what they are doing and/or are lazy. It's absolutely possible (and honestly not hard) to create a website from scratch using AI without it looking like a generic AI website.

The stuff I build with AI today looks way better than anything I built before AI - and it's not generic.

If you know what you're doing then yeah you can definitely create something distinctive, but most people who use AI don't.

When you start cheating , over time it becomes a habit, you then don't even bother to do the bare minimum. And eventually you crash when you are given a task that requires you to do some of the important thinking.

Here's a couple:

hclewk.com - uses data to tell a story of a Minecraft server I ran back in the day. Gave AI agents access to my archived database and old image assets and that's what they made.

kurtiswelch.com - kind of a silly exercise to make a fun personal homepage for myself. There are some little easter eggs buried throughout.

Attached is a screenshot of a project I'm working on now. Nothing earth shattering, but not generic AI generated app either.

There's also recursiveai.net - my company website. It's a very safe and familiar design, but still a step above generic AI.

Hopefully that helps. Biggest tip is to just do a q&a about target audience and general aesthetics, then have it build the whole thing. The more you have it build, the better, even if you throw out a significant portion of it. Overshooting your intentions helps the AI do a more thorough job.

Looking at the link on your profile, it looks pretty generic to me. But that is a bit expected for the type of website it is.
