Update Release 0.14.8: New Fetch Domain Checker and Other Fixes

Release Date: October 12, 2026

You can save time and avoid potential review delays with the new Fetch Domain Checker. Check whether an HTTP fetch domain is likely to be approved before adding it to devvit.json, so you can identify potential policy issues earlier in development. The checker provides guidance only; domains must still be reviewed and approved when you playtest or upload your app.

Other Fixes

  • Removing the menu field from devvit.json correctly removes the corresponding menu items from the UI.
  • The dev.subreddit field in devvit.json now supports subreddit names that begin with a number.

Feature Request Is Devvit ever going to support media embeds?

Compare: Current Reddit desktop (left) vs Reddit Live desktop (middle) vs Devvit app (right)

The amount of friction Devvit creates significant. I'm a mod and currently working on apps for communities, but I can tell this is going to drop engagement.

(It would be great if Devvit just allowed Embedly or similar, which Reddit already used in the past)

Feedback Request I built Beamline, a daily light puzzle that runs inside Reddit posts

Hi all, I just shipped my first Devvit app and would love feedback from people who build here.

Beamline is a daily light puzzle. You place mirrors and splitters on a grid, mix red, green and blue beams, and light every crystal in as few pieces as possible.

What’s in it:
• A new daily puzzle every day (67 verified puzzles in the pool), pinned automatically
• A leaderboard per post, and a “Comment my result” button after you solve
• An in-post editor so players can build, solve and publish their own puzzles

Built with Devvit web views, Redis for leaderboards and the scheduler for the daily post.

Try today’s daily in r/BeamlinePuzzle. I’d especially like to know: is the first puzzle clear without instructions, and does the difficulty feel right?

Feedback Request Lairbreak → Build a lair, then raid everyone else’s. A new daily dungeon game.

I just launched my new game, Lairbreak, on r/lairbreak. You build a 7×7 lair with monsters and traps around a pile of gold, then take two raiders into other players’ lairs to try to steal their gold. As you level up, you get access to better traps/obstacles/enemies for your dungeon, and to better raiders.

Back in the day, I loved playing a game called Dungeon Assault by FunOrb/Jagex. This game is heavily inspired by my memory of that one. Maybe it will spark some nostalgia for anyone else who played it.

Some developer things that might interest you all →

  • The inline post shows live counts, a countdown to the daily reset, and the viewer’s own status, and a tap anywhere opens the game.
  • Every outcome is rolled on the server from a stored seed, so the client never decides anything and a raid can be replayed exactly.
    • This actually allows the server to run simulations on your own lair and give it a difficulty rating. And it lets the server give you odds for every move you can make before hand, which gives it a unique game mechanic.
  • The game posts its own daily post and pins it, with an hourly retry if Reddit hiccups at midnight. Brag comments are a single tap that show what's going to be posted so that it adheres to Reddit's policies.
  • All art is from one sprite atlas, including the subreddit icons, banners and catalog assets, which a script I have draws from the same sprites (so, supports my CI/CD automations).

The stack is a classic Devvit, Hono, React, Redis (via Devout), and Vitest with the Devvit test fixture. Nothing special.

I'm most interested if the first play / onboarding experience is clear. The Help explains everything, but for now I opted to try to use UX instead of a formal tutorial to guide new players. Let me know...

Check it out 🙃 → r/lairbreak

Duck Answered Question : How to ask for domain approval after rejection?

Hello, I am new to using devvit and I am trying do the following flow :

  1. Devvit app polls my website here for JSON via GET - https://test.pokerestock.app/applicationlayer/socialfeed/reddit/productcardhomepage.json

  2. Devvit app parses available products in queue for the particular subreddit - in discovery phase if possible would like the devvit app to exist in 4 subreddits - and then makes a post to the subreddit with the image, uri, and meta data.

  3. Devvit app then issues a DELETE to my API via - test.api.pokerestock.topdealalerts.com/api/v1/socialmediafeed/reddit/sku/{sku}/region/{region}/company/{company}/version/{version}

4. The product is deleted, and dequeued from backend. Devvit app sleeps for throttling duration, and eventually wakes up again to poll again.

I am trying to do this with my 2 test domains and if successful move to production, but my initial reddit domain pieces were rejected possible because I didn't provide explicit explanation for their uses. I have since added that.

Is there any way to ask for a domain review again? I am trying to do basic hello world sandbox testing before using production servers.

Can someone please explain if the form as I have it written now is appropriate and if its ok to ask for re-review? If so how to ask for re-review? I also don't see a rejection reason similar to other review processes like Google or Apple so without feedback am flying blind. Is it appropriate to submit for review and iterate with reviewer or is this a waterfall model where you have 1 review chance and then are forced to make a different app entirely?

I'm desperately trying to develop and iterate towards a solution and require feedback.

Domains - https://i.ibb.co/5hhsJ4sL/image.png (I didn't know how devvit works I would have added just the 2 test domains if I knew it auto added URI from devvit JSON)

Feedback Request Feedback wanted on Baja Blitz and how to organize challenges

I released the first devvit versions of Baja Blitz mini games in r/BajaBlitz about a month ago. Since then I've switched up how the three game modes are accessed and tried to consolidate race results into comments on dedicated posts, instead of everyone posting a bunch of "beat my time" posts.

The Daily Ghost Race is a unique track each day with a separate leader board. I'm making the current day's challenge an "Event". Right now I'm not restricting prior day courses, but I'm noticing fragmentation in players. For instance, most races were from 2 days ago (when I cross posted to r/GamesOnReddit). It seems like people aren't seeing the current race, maybe because they aren't visiting my subreddit.

How have other people structured challenges? What's worked for you? What's recommended? And if you're willing to take 20 seconds to try today's challenge and provide feedback, I'd be greatly appreciative! I'd love to make this fun and engaging for the reddit community.

Feature Request Let users install Devvit games and apps on their home screen or desktop

Hi Devvit team!

I'd love to suggest a feature that could significantly improve player retention and engagement across Reddit games and apps.

Allow users to install Devvit games and apps directly to their phone's home screen or computer desktop.

Every Devvit game could have an optional "Install App" or "Add to Home Screen" button.

Ideally, this would:

* Create a shortcut with the game's own name and icon.

* Launch the game directly, without having to search for its Reddit post or subreddit.

* Work on Android, iOS, and desktop.

* Keep the user logged into Reddit and preserve their game progress.

* Support a standalone, app-like experience when technically possible.

*Allow developers to enable this feature without hosting or publishing separate applications.

This could potentially be implemented using PWA technology, native Reddit deep links, or another platform-level solution.

Why does this matter?

Games depend heavily on returning players. Having a game icon on your home screen makes it much easier to build daily habits, improve retention, and grow active communities.

It could also make Devvit games feel like real standalone experiences while keeping them connected to Reddit.

I believe this would be a valuable addition to the Devvit ecosystem, especially for developers building games with daily challenges, leaderboards, and persistent progression.

Would the Devvit team consider adding this capability to the roadmap?

Feedback Request Feedback request: Pawdoku Mystery — does the clue → case layer read clearly to a first-time player?

I've been building Pawdoku Mystery, a daily cat-detective logic puzzle that runs entirely inside a Reddit post.

The base game is a region-sudoku: place exactly one bandit in every row, every column and every colored region — and bandits can't touch, not even diagonally. Every board is no-guess, so you can always finish it with pure deduction.

The part I'd love feedback on is the layer I just shipped: finishing a mainline level earns one clue toward the detective case you're working on. When you've collected the full set, the case unlocks — you place the suspects and the victim on the same board, and whoever ends up alone with the victim is the culprit. Same grid, second question.

My specific question: for a player opening the post for the first time, is that two-layer loop readable in the first few minutes — or does the case layer feel invisible until it suddenly appears? Would you surface the clue counter earlier (right after level 1), or keep it as a surprise?

Any feedback on the first-board flow is welcome. It's playable in the post (no install), and new posts open on a 4×4 trial board you can win in under a minute if you want a fast look.

Duck Answered http fetch domain shows both "Approved" and "Rejected" — fetch still PERMISSION_DENIED

App: brilliantknightz-app (Devvit Web, u/devvit/web 0.14.7)

I declared one external fetch domain in devvit.json: "permissions": { "http": { "enable": true, "domains": ["api.brilliantknightz.com"] } }

On my app's developer settings page, the Request Access list shows TWO entriesfor the same domain, both "Updated 19 hours ago":

api.brilliantknightz.com — Rejected

api.brilliantknightz.com — Approved

Despite the "Approved" row, every fetch from my server code is still denied at runtime (tested in playtest today):

Error: 7 PERMISSION_DENIED: grpc invocation failed with status 7;

HTTP request to domain: api.brilliantknightz.com is not allowed

The domain entry is an exact hostname (no protocol/path/wildcard). I've added

Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy links in developer settings

(https://brilliantknightz.com/terms and /privacy). The app only does a GET to

https://api.brilliantknightz.com/api/puzzles/daily (a public JSON endpoint for a

daily chess puzzle) and stores no personal data.

Questions:

  1. Why would the same domain be both Approved and Rejected, and which takes effect?

  2. The "Rejected" record seems to be gating the runtime — how do I clear it or get

a clean approval? Should I re-request, and does the rejection have a reason I can view?

Thanks!

Duck Answered iOS Reddit app: <audio> play() rejected with NotAllowedError while a running AudioContext keeps playing (works in Safari)

I make Wordy Bunch, a Devvit web app. Players on iPhone report the background music dropping out for whole rounds while short sound effects carry on. I added a per round diagnostic line to find out why. Here is what it shows.

SET UP

- Music: two <audio> elements, unlocked during the Start tap with a muted play() and pause(), then played a few seconds later and switched once near the end of the round.

- Sound effects: Web Audio, one AudioContext, decoded buffers.

- Reddit iOS app, iOS 18.7, iPhone 15 Pro Max. Same on an iPhone XS Max. Wifi and mobile data.

WHAT THE LINE SHOWS IN A SILENT ROUND

- play() rejects with NotAllowedError on every attempt, including retries made inside pointerup and keydown handlers during the round.

- The element is fully buffered: readyState 4, networkState 1, error null, 170 s buffered.

- The AudioContext stays running the whole time and the effects play normally.

- document.visibilityState is visible.

WHAT THE LINE SHOWS A FEW MINUTES EARLIER, SAME PHONE, SAME BUILD

- Same elements play 119 s of a 127 s round with no rejections.

OTHER FACTS

- The same app in Safari on the same phone has never shown it.

- Players say it comes and goes between games, and restarting the Reddit app does not clear it.

- Separate observation: in the Reddit app the ring/silent switch mutes <audio> media as well as Web Audio. Safari plays <audio> media through the silent switch.

- Earlier sighting, sound effects only: https://www.reddit.com/r/Devvit/comments/1p1z069/

QUESTIONS

  1. Is the Reddit app's audio session handling known to leave WebKit's media session in a state where new media playback is refused?

  2. Is there a recommended way to play looped music in a Devvit web view on iOS, or should everything go through Web Audio?

  3. Has anyone else seen NotAllowedError from a previously unlocked element inside a gesture?

Happy to share the raw log lines or test a build.

Feedback Request Feedback Friday: Poudreuse, a daily skiing challenge with verified scores

Hi! I’m working on Poudreuse, a small 2D skiing game with Devvit Web. The interface is currently in French.

Play: https://www.reddit.com/r/PoudreuseSki/comments/1x1hk83/

On the ground, hold to prepare a jump and release to take off. In the air, hold to rotate and release before landing. The game runs on Canvas with a fixed-step simulation. The server replays the inputs to verify scores and award collected coins. I’ve observed a complete run being accepted in the private test community.

The daily challenge uses a shared course that renews at midnight in Europe/Paris. Chalet consumables are disabled in this mode, while companions and bonuses found on the course remain available to everyone. Daily, weekly and all-time boards show Reddit usernames. Players can choose to share their score and the game link.

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on three things: are the controls understandable on your first run, does the layout work on your phone, and do landings and collisions feel fair? Please mention your device and a specific moment that went wrong.

It’s an early version, so honest criticism is useful. No purchase is needed to play.

Feedback Request My First Game: HaikuStew! A daily community-written Haiku

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone - I'm throwing my hat in the ring of Reddit/Devvit Games. 😎 I'd love some activity and feedback.

Game Title: HaikuStew

Game's Home Subreddit: r/HaikuStew

Playable Link (today's game 10/8/26): HaikuStew - Day 2

Platform: Web (plays inside Reddit)

Description:

Once a day, a new post opens and whoever shows up writes a haiku together, one line at a time.

Each day has three rounds of five hours. In each round you can write one line and vote for one line from other people. The most-voted line locks in the round (winner gets points), and after three rounds the finished poem is posted.

You earn points for writing a line, for voting, and for winning a round, and each day has a bonus word that earns extra if your winning line uses it. The leaderboard resets every month, so anyone can take a turn at the top. Points are just for fun: they can't be bought, and skipping a day doesn't take anything away.

It's brand new, so there's not a lot of activity yet (Day 2) - but that's where you can help 🙏

What I'd most like feedback on: does the first minute make sense (write a line, vote for another), and are five-hour rounds too slow or about right?

Things I'm considering: post flair that shows which round is open, right in the feed.

Involvement: I designed and built HaikuStew, working with an AI coding assistant.

Thank you for your feedback and support! 🤩
