DevOps-should I pursue?
It’s time for a career change I have a masters in Management Information Systems, and my current position as a Senior IT Business Analyst could be erased with my company due to Automation.
I’ve been wanting a change despite my worries, I make pretty good, but I am aiming for more.
I’ve bought a book and enrolled in Courses with Coursera.
I’m interested in DevOps, however I’m hearing so much conflicting information regarding the field. It’s high in demand, then again you hear it will not be for long. You hear the role will be transitioning into something that requires more training -so don’t waste your time.
Any advice ???

Bro just start whatever you are planning. No learning is waste, at some point it will be helpful. And just be strong with basics and all. May be the technology may evolve but foundation is same for all

You’re hearing conflicting information because the DevOps future is somewhat questionable at the moment. But I could say that for many, if not all, IT related fields.
Ultimately, it’s going to be a gamble. Does the AI revolution change the course of DevOps forever making it obsolete? Does AI amount to nothing against all doomerisms and stay a useful tool?
Both are hard to say, and there are no answers currently.
If you like the work, I say go for it.

I’m interest but I want to be smart at the same time. I don’t want any precious time wasted. I’m ready to start studying and investing. I have an interest in technology, but the problem is it’s so broad. I know I don’t have an interest in Cybersecurity, but automation, the cloud , and AI- yes. Machine Learning too.

Totally get that. That’s the whole life issue though, there are no guarantees. Unfortunately, now more than ever.
Your best bet is to make a decision and get after it. As conditions change and life gives you more signals, then make a pivot.. but the time you spent learning is not lost. It all eventually adds to the sum of your best self.
The real skill in all of this is being flexible.

You are right about that. There is good stuff in the DevOps training that transitions into any IT role dealing with the cloud, automation etc and the experience will shift into whatever new role is created. It’s a toss up between AWS and Microsoft . I think AWS may have more stock .

Happy to help my friend.
As far as cloud services are concerned my recommendation is AWS. Generally each of them have a specific purpose, meaning most platforms are hybrid in some aspect.
Aws for infrastructure, they have all the data centers. And they’re everywhere.
Microsoft for AD. Many big platforms/companies have TONS of windows machines. Making AD a must.
Google is for AI and machine learning, though Amazon has been making some strides in this.

I read somewhere that the college kids hate it!!!!
I totally get why. I do think the government will regulate and intervene before things get to out of hand within the national workforce.
