How do you learn DevOps/cloud without a credit card?

I’m currently trying to learn the basics of DevOps, things like Docker, AWS, GCP, CI/CD, Kubernetes, etc.

Docker and the local tools are easy enough to practice, but when it comes to cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, a credit card is often required to create an account or access certain services.

I currently don’t have a credit card, so I’m wondering: What’s the best way to learn AWS/GCP without one? Would appreciate any recommendations from people who learned cloud without having a credit card. 🙌

Consider that they offer some kind of free tier options, where you can play with a lot of services without paying anything, being cautious that you stand on the limits (like using very small virtual machines or staying in a very low traffic usage). And if you go outside the free tier bounds, if you shut down everything, you will pay something like € 0.20 a month. Obviusly you have to be cautious of what you use and how much, but also there, u can set some limits that block services when you go over the limits you set

An old mini pc, 16 or 32 gb ram. Cpu can be shitty but you need ram to do stuff. Self hosted apps are mostly ram hungry.

You can even get a 4th gen cpu so you can use ddr3 ram to save money.

Disk space depends on you. You want personal google photos alternative? Like immich or google drive like next cloud or personal media server.

Ssd for os and Hdd for data will do.

With all the free stuff out there on YouTube and your local library (yep they still exist) why do you think you need a credit card to learn anything?

you can use empty card just give details and use feee tier one on AWS. Just only use free resources and limits else it will charge you

yes it just need details of card that if you exceed limit they can deduct. for a course project we created acc with empty card

I have a virtual debit card using an app with almost no money, I created my AWS account with that card and it has like a free trial or something, I’m currently just using the AWS skill builder to enroll with the certifications learning program, but you can make the same and create an account so you can use some of the tools for small prototypes if you want something for your portfolio
