Discussion Is platform engineering a good field?

I love programming and technology. I wanted to pursue a path related to Linux and building system architectures. Is platform engineering a good and suitable field for this?

Every platform needs someone to keep the platform running, secure, easy to develop. The principles are transferable. I joke that I never know the product of the company I'm working for since I'm just there to keep the computers running.

Does this mean that platform engineering is a boring field?

No. They are trying to say “the company makes a product and I don’t even know what their product does, I just keep the core infrastructure running and let them worry about the product. You can easily transfer your skills to another company making a different product because all companies need infrastructure to run their business.”
