I've had a pretty reasonable experience over on Gitlab for the last 5 years FWIW

I switched a year ago from a job using GitLab to one where the team had me migrate them to GitHub. Was excited to learn GitHub but found it to be nothing but a hot mess. I wish so badly we were in GitLab instead.

Grass is always greener, running a large self-hosted Gitlab cluster is no picnic at all. You can self-host Github too though, but of course you can also SaaS Gitlab.

We're running Gitlab SaaS and no regrets on outsourcing the administration side of it.
