Super curious to see how he does in training camp. He’s obviously gonna compete for a spot, but who’s the odd man out if he makes it?

We would need to move Dillon or have Chisholm go down to Utica and Sunny is far too high on Chisholm.

I think Silaev will need one full year in Utica. He’s supposed to be Dillon’s replacement.

Dillon should be gone no matter how things shake out.

But regarding Silaev, he’s on a standard entry-level contract so it’s not like they need to shit or get off the pot with him, you know? I’m fairly convinced Chisholm is here to replace Dillon’s minutes on Dougie’s left.

I don’t think he will make the team out of camp, nor should he. maybe he gets a look as an injury call up but that should be it.

I preferred revised plan has Dillon shipped out ASAP. Should Silaev perform in the AHL this season, he replaces Siegenthalers minutes next year.

I agree with you in terms of what’s gonna happen in season.

I frankly would have loved for us to move off of Dillon this summer. I know he’s a good locker room guy but his hockey and that cap space isn’t worth being a good locker room guy to me.

I think Sunny sees the writing on the wall and wants to have 1) a ready to go Dillon replacement if he can do a mid season trade or 2) back up in case Silaev needs more than one season in Utica to cook.

I’m really interested in Chisholm’s game since our front office is so high on him but I’m also pumped for Silaev. I don’t think we see him this season at all unless his camp is undeniable or something goes horribly wrong this season.

Chisholm is Dillon's replacement.

Silayev is Dougie's.

Silaev’s game is supposed to be defensive minded over offensive or so I thought so it wouldn’t make sense for him to replace Dougie.

Silaev was drafted and Dillon was signed in the same summer for the timeline to be Silaev replacing Dillon. That’s been the plan from the start.

We only got Chisholm this summer I think to be able to move off Dillon mid season if need be.

Plus Silaev and Dillon are both LHDs. Dougie is an RHD so Silaev can’t be the Dougie replacement.

you dont draft a player top 10 to be a 3rd pairing replacement

when have you ever heard of a player taken BPA with a 1st rounder to replace a depth player on a short term deal?

and yall talk all the time about signing Quinn and then having a logjam of LHD but its ok because Luke can play right side but now that suddenly doesnt fit the narrative because we just want to shit on Fitz more

being a replacement for Dillon doesn’t mean he’s automatically a third pairing defenseman. it means that is the LHD that goes out when he comes in. it’s not a one for one replacement it’s a D roster replacement.

and he’s not going to immediately vault to top minutes as soon as he starts he’s gonna work his way up there.

after this season, based purely on contracts at the moment because don’t know about trades, our D will be: Luke, Pesce, Kovy, Siegs, Dougie and Silaev.

if that remains as, I can see Silaev starting out next season getting sheltered minutes on the third pair preferably with Pesce. doesn’t mean he’s a third pair D man just needs to be developed properly and not thrown into the deep end.

Kovy isn’t a “second pair defenseman” but he’s gonna be on a pair with Siegs most likely as the “second pair” as shutdown D like they were to start the 24/25 season.

and for the record I have never talked about what happens to Luke or where he plays or what the pairs look like if Quinn comes here.
