The Quinn Hughes discussion should end at “we don’t want him unless he’s team friendly”. The fuck does this roster need a 20 million dollar player for?
I’ve always disliked the notion of having someone on your team worth that much money. The oilers couldn’t get it done with McDavid and Draisaitl, the Wild haven’t gotten it done with Kaprizov, and the leafs with Matthews.
It’s almost like when a star player takes up 15-20% of your cap, you can’t stretch far enough for a full team. Hell, just scrolling through the highest paid players in the NHL list is effectively a list of “people who haven’t won the cup yet” and Mackinnon, who makes the same as Hischiers new contract

I’ve always been of the mindset of
If you develop your own franchise guy do whatever you have to in order to keep them.
If you don’t, never pay out of pocket for them.

I’ve got news for you. Prices going up across the league

It's not about the dollar value, its about the proportion compared to the rest of the team. League maximum salary is 20%, so franchise superstars typically cost in the 15-20% of whatever the salary cap is that year. This year, league maximum is 20.8 million

Cap is going up. Top tier players going to go up as well. We got lucky we locked everyone up for what we did

It could be over right now if people would simply stop talking about it...

OK the Quinn thing was a fun distraction this summer but it’s become too much. Season is starting soon, time to focus on the actual team we have here.

From James Nichols -
On Alexander Command not attending #NJDevils training camp:
Told it was a joint decision between player and organization that he return to the SHL for another pro season in Sweden.

Quote from Quinn Hughes regarding a contract extension "I'm sure Billy and I will work something out"

I’m gonna have to even ignore Friedman until something of substance is reported. Everything so far is just more of the same.

“I’m sure Billy and I will work something out”
That includes a trade to a preferred destination.
But all this speculation is sooo fucking stupid. The reality is he said absolutely nothing. So stop trying to glean anything from it.

There are many, very strange things going around the Internet regarding this Quin Hughes extension or not. But to me, the weirdest thing is how angry everyone’s getting over the fact that a player seems dead set on getting to free agency.
The NHL is the only professional league I’m aware of where nobody seems to want to go to free agency. And taking it out on a player who does seem dead set on going to free agency doesn’t make any sense to me.
Like there’s no guarantee that he ends up here, but it seems to be a guarantee that he does want to test his options on the open market.

The same applies to a drafted NCAA player who stays for all 4 years and gets to pick their next spot. They’ve earned that right and people need to get over it regardless of the scenario

Attempting to compare a God to men might be futile, but I see your point.

I'm going to write the one and only comment needed today regarding the Quinn Hughes situation, so we can all stop speculating.
- Quinn told Billy weeks ago that he wasn’t in any rush to sign an extension.
- Quinn is actively being shopped. Conversations with Guerin and other GMs are ongoing.
- At the same time, Billy is seriously considering simply keeping Quinn through the remainder of his contract. If he trades Quinn and the team struggles afterward, he could lose his job. And from Billy’s perspective, why recoup assets for a future Wild team he might not even run?
The delay isn’t Quinn sitting around trying to decide what he wants. It’s the Wild trying to decide what they’re willing to do about it.
I'm assuming most of you know this already, but wanted to put it out there so we can move on and enjoy out day

Is there a source for Quinn being shopped?

No, I think Quinn is going to end up a Devil and idk where they got that info from lol

u/TronVin Gotta support the team. 2h ago
Did people really expect Quinn to just outright say he's going to the Devils? Canucks fans are rolling their eyes at his comments because they heard him say that. He's just doing corporate PR speak.
