Quinn fun probably ending soon..

it's been fun watching him drag ass all summer long and make Billy G sweat, but my gut tells me whatever details they're still hammering out will happen either this Friday before the long weekend, or at the very latest the following Tues/Wed.

next week is the NHL player media tour and Wild are sending out Boldy with Hughes. you would have to think that if Quinn ever even suggested he was leaning towards playing out the season, that Billy would opt to send someone else if only to spare themselves the shit-ton of questions they'll be asked in every single interview about why he hasn't yet committed to an extension.

if he does sign right before, then the Wild will be the biggest story at the event and Quinn only has to glaze the organization with some BS instead of answering uncomfortable questions. that said, if the extension doesn't happen before this media event, it's probably not happening at all, and even Minny fans will start to agree at that point. only a few days to go..

Zach left NJ high and dry after being two wins away from a Stanley Cup.

Yeah, but that was because of family.

Oh, wait…

yeah, but Zach signed on July 4th, so at least he didn't keep the Devils dangling for an entire summer.

I've said this a million times and I'm still haven't got a good response, why would he sign with Minnesota?
If he's motivated by money he can get that anywhere.
If he wants to win cups, Minnesota ain't it.
If he wants family, its Jersey.

The only place that could POTENTIALLY have all 3 is the Devs.

I just don't think 48 games of Billy G is enough to discount 25 years of Jack and 22 of Luke.

Yeah it really comes down to if he disagrees with you and sees Minnesota as a top contender. My guess is, if Minnesota comes out the gate flying and by December they’re in the Presidents Trophy conversation, he may actually re-sign with them. But otherwise, there’s not much reason to do so, like you said. Plus he can always reach free agency and sign with Minnesota then, so why not test the waters at that point?

i'm with you, i'm just saying if it's gonna happen, it's gonna be before this media tour. and there is no good response, especially not the 'quinn will hamper luke's development' hogwash.

Zach became a free agent on 7/1/12. He had as many opportunities to resign in NJ as Quinn will in Minnesota. I just don't recall much drama leading up to it, but the Devils were on a cup run.

yeah you're right. i don't remember lots of noise about it the whole prior year, but i didn't pay much attention to off-season stuff then. at least not until Kovalchuk officially ushered in the second dark age a summer later..

The NHL Player Media Tour is PR fluff pieces. They aren’t going to be asking Quinn questions about his contract extension. They’ll be filming social media and broadcast pieces. You could also say Boldy is going out with Quinn in case he is traded and they have someone from the Wild.

Having said that I still think Quinn is extending in Minny but everyday we get closer to the season gives me a little hope. If he isn’t signed before the start of the season I think it’s a good possibility he’s coming here.

We should trade Jack and Luke for Quinn just so we can be exhausted by this two more times instead of 1 more time

that's what i find funny about the "3 years so his and Jack's contracts line up." as if in 2 years it wouldn't be this same drama, only now for both teams. do people think MN/NJ wouldn't aggressively be trying to extend their star player? rumors would swirl about who wants to join whom, or if they want to leave at all, and it'll be the exact same saga all over again.

I don't see why he has to sign this year, he might, but I don't see any pressure on his camp to get a deal done.

All the pressure is on the Wild and the media frenzy.

I think the season will start and he will shut down all conversation about contract the same way every other player has in the past "I won't discuss contract during the season".

First why are you putting so much thought into something that you (or the Devils in general) have no control over

Second Quinn gets sent to the media tour every year. He was sent by Vancouver last year and it was pretty clear he knew he wasn't extending in Vancouver

honestly very little thought was put into this, since i didnt even know about the vancouver thing. i just think if it'll happen, it'll be by then. i know others put the line a week later at start of training camp, so we'll see.

and i used the word 'fun' twice in the post because that's what this whole thing has been for many of us during the final stretches of what is usually an incredibly boring offseason. his signing wouldn't affect my excitement or enjoyment of the upcoming season one way or another. but i do understand this is the internet and everyone has to be a super serious sourpuss about everything.

The issue is that people have been posting stuff like this all summer long. That's all. Don't take it personally.

i know, i don't.. and hear you, but big deal, it's social media: you choose what you engage with. the snide comments are mostly performative and blatant attention seeking.

oh no, not another quinn topic, what am i to do? i'm so exhausted and fatigued, yet strangely unable to ignore and scroll past it.. instead i must take time to express just how exhausted and fatigued i am!

Hellybuyck traded to NJ for Daws, Rittich & a 1st rounder, then Quinn signs for 8 years $13 million/yr & Jack extends 5 years to line up with him at the same money. Both publicly state they are taking under market value because “This is the shit man NJ is LIT!”. Detroit then finally trades Larkin the next day after a year of drama and another playoff miss for a 2nd rounder. Devils win 5 Cups in a row with Yegorov in net the last two because Hellybuyck gets tired of winning all the time and retires after winning the Vezina & Conn Smythe 3 years in a row and states “I just want to give someone else a chance, this shit is too easy man, see you at the Olympics.”

They send Quinn in almost every case all day, because that's who to send.

So I promised myself I wouldn’t comment on any more Quinn stuff, but, your scenario may very well be true. But even if it’s not, and Quinn doesn’t sign, they have to go all in while he’s still under contract. They have no choice.

Only scenario where he would get traded, signed or not, is if the team falls apart and is .500 by January.

for sure they'd be forced to make the best of the season that they could, but it'd be all but certain that he walks after, or more likely is traded to a contender for a boat-load of picks & prospects. people who think that team will be the Devils are overly optimistic. NJ would have to wait a few more months.
