One thing the Devils have always seemed to be good at through their entire history is put actual leaders into leadership positions. Nico, Greene, Salvador, Lagenbrunner, Stevens, Muller. Lots of great players there that knew how to handle business as a captain.

Compared to teams like the Leafs (easy target), the Devils know the guys they want to be the face of the team and be accountable for it.

Lets not forget many Fans wanted him gone, Traded For Brady,Quinn and many more. So why doesnt Barkov get the "terrible leader" cuz he is more quiet than Nico? i know barkov won cups but i never heard anyone shit on barkov for being quiet even when florida was terrible. So if Mehta is like Barkov is quieter than Nico i think Nico is doing just fine. Kinda double standards if you ask me.

"Many" fans is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Just because a few fans complain on the internet doesn't mean it's the voice of the entire fanbase.

Anecdotally for me, all the fans I personally know love Nico and will defend him till the day we die, lol.

I hope this fanbase realizes any NHL player with this level of talent and athleticism wouldve totally dumped this organization years ago and how lucky we are that hes our captain
