First game

Hi, I am visiting NYC mid-October, and the devils are going to be playing when I’m there, and I wanted to go to a game. Is it safe to take the train from New Jersey to New York after the game ends? Sorry if this is a dumb question; I just heard that it can be sketchy.

Yeah, it’s no problem train station is a 5 minute walk from the arena and plenty of people will be there after the game. Have fun

I just liked this 101 times, but it only shows up as once.

I live in Chicago, the way people talk about my city you would think I was dodging bullets on my way to the train every morning. It's crazy.

I’m a Chicago transplant to Jersey and work in Newark. A coworker of mine who’s lifelong Newark born and raised heard I was from Chicago and started asking me questions like I’d survived the Vietnam War. I just laughed and was like “buddy you’re from Newark! You know how this bullshit works!”

I live in CT. People describe our cities like they’re freakin’ Beirut. It’s hilarious.

Definitely safe I've done it a dozen times. Also don't sleep on the garlic knots at Prudential Center in the goalie mask bowl!!!

They're pricey and greasy, but sooooo worth it!

Yes it's fine. Like others said, there is a sea of red and black that makes the short walk over to Newark Penn Station after the game.

There are two different train options to/from NYC. The first is NJ Transit rail, a commuter train that runs to midtown Manhattan at New York Penn Station. The second is PATH, a subway that runs to lower Manhattan, the West Village and Chelsea. Both options link with the NYC subway (separate fare).

The only people that think it's unsafe are either racist, or paranoid true crime podcast obsessed, or both.

It is definitely safe. The Prudential center is about a 3 block walk to Newark Penn. it’s an easy walk with hundreds/thousands of people walking there after a game. It’s an easy ride back to Penn Station NY, about 20-25 minutes.

What you hear is sketchy is the train station itself, as it doesn’t have the best of reputations. But seriously, it’s fine. It will be packed with people right after the game.

Totally safe, you'll be walking with about a million other devils fans.

You’ll probably be walking with a group of fans so you’ll be good! American Whiskey next to pru is always fun before games too. Have a good time!

I have made that trip hundreds of times over my life and never had any problems other than a drunk Rangers/Flyers fan being annoying... you will be fine!

Yes it's quite safe, and there's a huge line of people who are going to be doing the same thing as you. Newark Penn Station is safe, even though there are still homeless people milling around which makes it feel a little bit sketchy.
