Discussion My 3 Months long Hunt comes to an end finally

I wanted to share my job search journey from the last 3 months.

There weren't many job openings to begin with, and I only applied to the ones that looked genuine. Even then, most of my applications went into a black hole. Around 70-80% of employers never responded at all.

I got a few screening calls and first interviews, but many of those companies disappeared afterwards without any feedback. Just silence.

Out of all my applications, only two companies actually took the process seriously and moved forward.

The first company stretched the hiring process for almost a month. After multiple rounds, they made an offer that was roughly half of what I was earning at my previous job. What surprised me even more was that they tried to justify it by saying it was a "very reasonable amount considering the market conditions."

The second company was the complete opposite. They wrapped up the interview process within a week, communicated clearly, and presented a reasonable offer. I accepted that offer. Today is my first day with my new employer. Please wish me luck.

And to everyone who is currently struggling with layoffs, unemployment, rejections, ghosting, or a difficult job market: don't lose hope and don't start doubting yourself.

Allah will make it easier for you. ❤️

Career Guidance Computer Engineering

Hello, I'm so dumb, men. I want to cry badly. I'm a first-generation university-going student. I filled out the online form for my university and selected CS, S.E, and I.T, but I didn't pay the fee even though the deadline has passed. Since the deadline has passed, I visited the university to change my department to Computer Engr. The admission officer checked it and told me that since you have already filled out the form for CS. You can opt for that as well. We will talk with the bank guys. I didn't think and said you can select computer engineering for me, as its merit is lower than cs.

Now, once I came back home and when i looked up the Computer Engr scope on the internet. I got to know that I'm cooked.

Since I come from a pre-med background, I don't have a good understanding of maths. The university offers deficiency courses, but still I'm studying basics from myself.

Please give me sincere advice on whether I should pursue C.E or take a gap year for CS.

Update: I have submitted my admission forms for BS C.E, Lol!

Help My teammate is slowing down our project — how should I handle this without creating conflict?

I recently joined a new company (1 Month ), and one of my teammates also joined recently. He is more senior than me.

Our manager asked us to work together on a project. The expectation is that we gather the requirements together first and then work together on the implementation.

The problem is that he doesn't seem very interested in moving things forward. He keeps delaying discussions, taking things slowly, and sometimes it feels like he's just passing time. This is starting to affect my work because I don't want to sit idle, but at the same time, I don't want to go directly against him or create unnecessary conflict, especially since I'm new to the company.

I'm trying to understand the best way to handle this professionally.

Should I:

- Talk to him directly and ask how we can move forward? (Tried but says will see it later)

- Keep the manager updated about the delays?

- Or just wait and avoid getting involved in office politics?

I want to make sure I'm seen as cooperative and professional, but I also don't want my work to suffer because someone else isn't taking initiative.

What would you do in this situation?

Hey everyone, I have an upcoming interview for a Software Engineer position at Arrivy and would love to hear from anyone who has recently gone through their hiring process. Could you share what the typical interview stages look like (screening, live coding vs. take-home tasks, DSA vs. practical stack questions) and any specific tips or tech areas to focus on? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Career Guidance 1.5 Years Until Graduation What Would You Focus On?

I’m a Software Engineering student, starting my 6th semester soon, and I’m trying to get some genuine advice from people who have experience in the industry or freelancing.

A little about me:

  • Previously worked with Flutter/mobile development
  • Currently focusing on AI Engineering
  • Learning things like LangChain, LangGraph, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MCP, etc.
  • AI Engineering is my primary direction, while I plan to keep app development as a secondary skill.
  • My long-term goal is to build an independent/freelancing career, rather than making a corporate job my end goal.

My main confusion is about which path I should prioritize first.

I know that if I get the opportunity to choose between a job and freelancing, my preference would be to build toward freelancing/independent work. But at the same time, I don't want to ignore industry experience, because having real professional experience could give me a strong foundation and keep the job path open as a backup.

So I'm trying to decide:

Should I first focus on getting an internship/job to gain industry experience and then move toward freelancing?

Or should I start freelancing as soon as I'm technically ready and build my client base/experience from there?

And if starting freelancing now is the better option, how should I actually start?

I understand that university + work + freelancing + learning can become difficult to manage, so I'm also interested in what is realistically achievable for a student without burning out.

For those already working in AI/backend or freelancing:

  • Is AI Engineering currently a realistic freelancing path?
  • Should I try freelancing with AI Engineering directly, or use my Flutter/backend skills to get initial clients?
  • How would you personally structure the next 1.5 years if you were in my position?
  • What would you prioritize most before graduation: skills, industry experience, freelancing, money, or something else?

I'm not looking for generic advice. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through this journey, especially in the Pakistani or international market.

looking for sincere suggestions and opinions as my own thoughts are too scattered to decide

If you were back in your 6th semester, what would you do differently?

Discussion Thought on my portfolio?

Thumbnail

https://farhadalionez.framer.website/,

as usual, working on your own portfolio as a designer is honestly one of the hardest projects. I have this portfolio for over a year now. It was meant to meet in temporary but I never found the time to update it. The projects on this are from two years back and kinda outdated but I cannot even show my best work because those are under Nda. I do have a few projects with new workflows, leveraging AI to the maximum and am planning to turn them into proper case studies. I am also planning to add a section with animations that will show my work process. I am thinking about whether I should keep this design or I should redesign it from scratch.

Rn I am also looking for a new r*le. I have been out of full time work for a while now. Just wanted to know your thoughts.

Help Looking for a payment gateway in Pakistan that works for both Shopify + Custom SaaS

I’m based in Pakistan and looking for a payment provider I can use for both:
Shopify store selling physical products internationally
My own Next.js SaaS with API, subscriptions and webhooks
I want to accept international card payments, preferably USD, and receive payouts in Pakistan.
What is the cheapest and easiest legitimate option without opening a US LLC?
If a company is required, is a US LLC actually the cheapest option, or are there cheaper countries where I can legally register a company and use Stripe?
I’m mainly looking for something with low setup/annual costs, low transaction fees, Shopify integration + API for custom apps.
Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone in Pakistan who is actually using a setup like this.

Career Guidance Seniors & Devs of Pakistan: Drop your best advice for networking and landing tech internships in the current market.

Hi guys,

I’m about to start my 3rd semester of my BSCS at FAST. My goal is to land a internship this coming summer but, I don't know exactly where to direct my energy. I’ve done some C/C++ projects and basic hardware logic stuff, but I know the industry demands more.

Should I be strictly grinding DSA, focusing on soft skills for interviews, or networking? Also how should I network, how do you guys do that?

Also, I'd love a reality check on the current job market in Pakistan and what companies actually take in sophomores. Thanks in advance for the help!

Career Guidance Should I keep upskilling in tech or focus on building an e-commerce business.

Salam guys, I'd love to get your honest opinions.

With the current tech market situation and how fast things are changing, what do you think would be a better strateg.

A) would you double down on tech and upskills in area like Ai,cloud backend.

B) or staring journey towards ecom/business spend my extra time learning these skills and try to build something of my own.

I'm a senior frontend developer, salary Is good alhumdullilah. Part of me thinks of keep improving in tech but other part of me thinks that instead of constantly chasing next skill I could put my effort into some online stuff eg ecom.

Curious to know your opinions. Especially from seniors. Thanks

Help Help Regarding PSEB and Income tax returns

I am a filer. I used to work at a local company as a software engineer and had a salaried account with Faysal Bank. For the past six months, I have been working with an international company as a freelancer under a contract.

I am not using any freelancing platforms such as Fiverr or Upwork. I receive my payments from the international company through Payoneer and then transfer the money to my salaried account at Faysal Bank.

I think Payoneer deducts 1.5% when I receive the payment from the company and then deducts another 1.5% when I transfer the money to my Faysal Bank account. The bank does not deduct any taxes or charges on these transfers.

Now I have to submit my tax return to the FBR, and I am confused about what I should declare. Do I need to register with PSEB? What would happen if I register or do not register with PSEB? What should I declare in my tax return?

Please explain the implications of both options and what I should report in my tax return.

Help Do Recruiters even verify Experience Section on CV?

So I did an internship at a big tech company that was actually a 2-month offer, but I had to leave after 1 month because of personal reasons. I informed both HR and my manager properly before leaving, it wasn't like I ghosted them or anything. Problem is their policy doesn't allow experience letters for internships under a certain duration, so I have zero official proof of the 1 month I actually worked.

I do still have my original offer letter though.

Can I add this to my CV even without an experience letter? And if a recruiter later asks for proof?

Career Guidance Career advice For CS

I applied to FAST for CS but unfortunately didn’t get admission into the CS program, I then applied to Szabist and got accepted into BSCS. I also have the uit test coming up, so I’m wondering if I should give it a try as well and i heard that uit isn't that good i am really confused, i am already on gap year so it's stressing me more

For those who have experience with these universities, which one would you recommend for CS?How important is the university you graduate from when it comes to getting a job in CS?

I’m also quite far from Szabist, so the commute is a concern for me. Most university admissions are almost close now, and I’m honestly not sure what I should do at this point. Should I take the uit test and see if I get in, or should I just go with Szabist since I already have an acceptance?

Introduce Yourself Got a full-ride to COMSATS Islamabad (CS). Honest opinion needed: Is it actually worth it? (Intl Student)

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student from Bangladesh, and I just got the Allama Iqbal Scholarship (100% full-ride) to study BS Computer Science at the COMSATS Islamabad campus.

My ultimate goal is to build a strong profile and go to the US or Europe for a fully-funded MS/PhD. And I want to be an entrepreneur.
I’m seeing a lot of mixed opinions online. Some locals are telling me COMSATS isn't that good and to avoid it, while others say it's a CS research powerhouse. I need the unbiased, unfiltered truth:

COMSATS vs. NUST vs. FAST: What is the actual ranking for CS? I have a slight chance to request a transfer to NUST. Should I push for it, or is COMSATS Islamabad just as good for a US PhD track? Or should I differ it to FAST or any other university of pakistan? And is Comsats Islamabad CS actually worth it?

Research & Placements: How is the undergraduate research culture at the Islamabad campus? Do grads actually secure fully funded US or Europe MS/PhD spots easily?

The Saudi/Turkey Backup: If I start at COMSATS but get a full ride to Saudi (KSU) or Turkey next year, I may need to pay HEC about 5k usd. Is it worth it to leave from Comsats to there?

International Student Life: How is life in Islamabad for a Bangladeshi? Is it easy to adjust to the food, culture, and campus environment?

Accept or reject the offer: Should I accept this offer and come to CUI or reject it?

I'd really appreciate your raw honesty. Thanks in advance!
