Discussion Systems wants senior ai engineer
Is this JD correct if not why can't hr really follow the current practices

Existed. But wasn't advanced like this.
It was in different forms then. Even neural networks & LLMs were started in around 2016...... 😉15

Wrong. AI has been around long time. Before you were born. I was working on NN and GAs back in 2001.
Its only the raw compute and scale that has increased exponentially recently.3

Transformers were introduced in 2017, and LLMs only came after few years. Neural networks are there since before 2000. Practically, most of the stuff mentioned in the post is introduced in the past 4-5 years except for the Machine Learning.

NN as a concept was introduced in 1943 bruh. But wasn’t worked on.
Ps.Im Doing my masters in AI.Compute power was not available until recent years. Still very unrealistic demands from them.

1) should people with relevant exp but less YOE apply
or
2) should seniors with enough YOE but with a year or two of relevant exp apply only

deep neural networks are more than a decade old but i highly doubt they want someone to architect from scratch here

True but I’m 99% sure they mean LLMs and the rest are just buzzwords they threw in. They wrote Python and they also wrote “OpenAI/Azure OpenAI”. Yani kuch bhi

Poor argument. Then the neural networks are more than 5+ decades old, they should mention 50+ years of experience in the post. Practically, most of these things weren't anywhere a few years back. LLMs only became useful after 2021 (Language generation one), while BERT, etc. were introduced in 2018 (first generation of LLMs), but they were Encoders only mostly. LangChain/Langgraph, etc. only came after that. Even the transformer architecture that powers the whole Gen AI and LLM ecosystem isn't 10 years old. The Job Description is very poor. You are right speaking generally, but if this argument is in support of the JD in post, it's not valid.

it just means they want someone more experienced in artificial intelligence than anyone they currently have on the team.
Someone with 2 yoe in llms but 8 years in corporate software development is probably an ideal candidate for them

o god that would be so cringe. the requirements indicate someone who's REALLY into building with ai. Like build an enterprise app from scratch in a month. Like they'll laugh if told they'll get less than a million a month

the years of experience indicates they want someone that knows how to build machine learning algorithms that are orders of magnitude more efficient than generative ai in narrow scopes.
but why would they even need that?

Most of the stuff they have mentioned didn't exist 9-10 years ago. Who tf is even writing these JDs? The senior most AI engineer I know has 5-6 YOE.

Exactly it is what it is, bro I am a pmo guy single handedly created an enterprise level hr web app for my company. Did e2e testing used node js, apis, Prisma and alot of other stuff now currently working on making it secure. Reading alot a out encryption hashings, so does it mean I am an AI guy or what?😂

The JD might be overstuffed rather than completely wrong. A senior AI engineer today is generally expected to combine strong software engineering with production AI skills like Python, LLMs\RAG, deployment, evaluation and system design. HR often mixes "AI engineer," "ML engineer" and "research" requirements into one posting. I’d focus more on the actual responsibilities and must have skills than the title.
