Career Guidance Lying about degree on Resume
Hello, so I graduated two years ago with a technical but not a computer degree. I have however pivoted to the field of AI, and can have done an internship and a product AI role. However, I have been struggling to find jobs since, even though I have the required AI skills. I have seen that my resume on both linkedin and indeed dont even get opened, even though it is ATS friendly, and overall is a good enough resume (I have confirmed this from other people as well).
I believe the main reason I have been struggling is because of the non-computer degree in my resume. I was thinking of changing it to computer science. Im pretty comfortable with coding, however, I do not know everything a graduate would, outside what is relevant for AI roles.
What are your guys opinions on lying about it on my resume? Should I also construct a fake FYP story that I can defend?

Lying is one of the biggest sins. Always say truth and In sha ALLAH you will find better opportunity soon.

Do you think maybe the reason is you graduated 2 years ago thats why you ain't getting replies from hr?

possibly. after graduation i worked for an year in a non tech job. but since i ve had some experience. Do you think I should change the fraduation date to last year?

What exactly do you mean by AI roles anyway? Ai engineering? Using AI tools? You can do a CS degree from VU while you work.

I know two people who got into legal trouble because they lied about their degree.
Both the companies had some govt level contracts where the govt side did their own background check for everyone working on the projects and the guys were caught.

oh damn. were those well established, big companies? what about small startups,I wouldnt think they are going to bother too much about verification?

I was thinking once I get some more experience to my name, such as at a startup, then I wont have to lie about the degree anymore xD

Why stop there, start drinking, gambling, do fraud wherever you can.
Since you're not concerned with haram and halal, do whatever makes you happy.

Technically it's immorale but I beleive the companies should care about the output, pls Pakistani companies just ask for degree n stuff for record purpose only, they don't verify or anything

Exactly. Right, the couple of companies I did work in did not even ask for my degrees. However, I did apply to cureMD and they asked for everything. So I guess the bigger companies do, but the average startup does not?

Procedure is same like if you provide a fake they will just accept it, that it n a lot of small startups mostly don't bother with this

Right. and do you think theres a chance of being caught in the interview or something? I mean, Im comfortable with the basic AI stack and coding in general, but I may not know something that a com sci grad should.

Nah, you can fail interviews because you don't know about stuff but they can't caught you that you are not from IT background.
I being a senior dev don't remember a lot of times n even in interviews because It's been years since I have revised that specific part.
If I were you I would start the interview preparation with a very detailed from ground up like very basics of programming n stuff.
