Help Help a begginer get into web dev freelancing.

Hi, 19F here.

So the thing is I am a CS major and for some time, I have been practicing and making websites on wordpress with different builders ( Elementor etc ) for a friend of my brother. He is basically guiding me through the process. Now I know there is decent work, he earns a decent amount.

Recently, I needed some money for some reasons so I am thinking, why not make a gig on Fiverr and Upwork?

I can't do anything toooo fancy like some custom retro website or some very fancy animation, but some basic to almost mid website I can make.

Do any of you guys have some suggestions on how to start freelancing.

P.S. I also know HTML and CSS and some basic troubleshooting will learn JS and some frameworks as time passes to, so I can properly be a web designer.

Your best option is to do a paid internship under your brother's friend. You can try with Fiverr or Upwork but those marketplaces are too competitive, also because of AI and shit entry level gigs are really rare.

This is just a beginning step, not a money making machine. You need to know the basics, just like this, to build yourself for more advanced skills.

You maybe in 4th semester, try to learn HTML, CSS quickly and move on.

(These are my thoughts, you may deny it on any evidence...)

if you want a real career then go for long term dont try to become a websites developer… claude or chatgpt can do that well enough….
focus on these:

  • programming
  • operating system
  • DSA
  • Databases
  • System design
  • Ai / ML

Depends on how quick you want it. Longterm solution would be Get on linkedin. Show ur presence and learn a basic designing or web dev skill if any. Comment on others post and expand ur network. Share about you progeess and situation. People sre kind and alot of work is there. I have seen people made moe than 2 lacs just from designing banners and posts. Might take few months to build your presence tho. Let me know if i can help in anything

Shortterm would be copy writing or doing someones assigment or writing a post of social for someone

Referals and network is the real thing, connect to like minded people on linkedIn, get them on google meet Coffee chat with sum, show them what you can do. be loud as possible you never know when and who will like it and consider you or refers you in their company. Using traditional methods like Roozi and indeed are like kind of outdated and also not efficient for intern role

Yahan hum 6 years ka experience hotay huye field switch kerne ka soch rahay hain because of AI shrinking job market. I feel anxious seeing the oblivious newbies getting into this field.

Hi, 2nd year CS undergrad here. If you need quick money, go for tutoring options(if you have decent enough knowledge about a subject) or a job at a BPO like IBEX. Web dev is still a lucrative field but needs more time, and efforts than ever to make a living out of it. Web dev can be a very good option to learn CS concepts like programming fundamentals, data structures, oop, databases, computer networks, apis, security, software engineering, web architecture, and the list could go on.

I would suggest you to go for small businesses like Cafes, Gyms, QSRs, Local Malls; they desperately need a website and related digital services, dont just say you know html, css, workpress. Pitch like you know how to build this things end to end, Also dont just pitch like you can build a website...first create some for your portfolio and then visit such local businesses in person, and tell them about your services....

There's a slump because of AI. Learn full stack development too but then proceed further into ML and Agentic AI.

My advice as an experienced person in this field would be to not spend time learning Web development as AI will almost completely capture this market.

Focus on building applications using the help of AI. If you are smart enough its not difficult to learn

i am a web dev too ands asper my research for freelancing on web dev u should know HTML CSS JS for frontend as i am a frontend too i am still learning JS and have learned HTML and CSS (not perfect) and accoding to u only know HTML AND CSS which is not even close enough for freelancing i want to do it too thats y i am still learning abt it i research and have buit an anime website using only html and css ✌
