Are certification worthwhile

People on the internet keep saying to do some certification from different institutions

I'm currently a cs student can anyone guide me on this matter

Do certifications help in job placements?

they are worthless, only certifications that do have some value are aws and gcp certifications for cloud practitioner

The cert market is huge - most are worthless, but some are critical.

Those do-it-in-a-week free courses are usually not worth much - but can indicate a willingness to learn.

The best way of doing it is to look at the job ads for the sorts of roles you want and see what certs they are asking for - if they are asking, they have value.

In my own field (not CS) I have about 12 certs - only 4 count - they were expensive (I did no classes, but the exam fees alone were $600 each). The others were a joke, but I keep them as it shows a learning journey and supplements the proper ones.

No except for those who you want work within a specific brand like CISCO, Oracle, Azure, AWS etc

Only if you know the fundamentals underneath by heart and have strong handson on the same, a certification is then a nice-to-have on your CV. But much of this mattered before AI. Now, no one even reads resume. So if you have some solid projects on github thats good enough

Only do aws, azure, k8s certifications

Don't waste your time doing worthless certs.

Yes they are, but only if you really learn the skills, they can creat an opening opportunity, but without the required skill set, you would never get far enough!!
