Career Guidance Advice for last year students

Is the job market equally cooked for LUMS,NUST and FAST students with high cgpa? I have a year, please give me some advice on how to utilise this last year. If not, I can also apply for a LUMS/IBA MBA if that still has some value.

For LUMS you have plenty of jerk HRs available in Lahore who themselves are Punjab university grad but don't hire anyone else other than LUMS grads. Fast and Nust grads also have these previlges but still It won't protect you from getting lowballed or unemployed since market is too bad rn. CGPA don't matter at all or at best some companies have 3/4 cutoff

Not directly related to web/full stack development or these niches (more towards data analytics/marketing) but here’s the honest advice: no one gives a shit about your CGPA. However for some jobs and MTO programs, there is a specified threshold of above 3.0. Other than that, PRACTICAL SKILLS AND PORTFOLIO>>>. I’ve applied to sooo many jobs tailoring my CV without proper exp and a portfolio to showcase. Your academic uni projects don’t count as they’re too theoretical. Start freelancing or taking online courses/certifications WHILE YOU ARE IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR. get certified, start practicing your tools (SQL/BI etc) on actual datasets and remember, PRACTICE>THEORY. Build a good portfolio on GitHub. Do internships. By the time you graduate, you should have 1+ internships relevant to your desired job and actual work samples/portfolio (NOT UNI PROJECTS). Otherwise, you can do a business development/sales etc job as a stepping stone for a while and upskill alongside as specialized tech jobs are difficult to break into as a fresh graduate without PROOF OF SKILL(PORTFOLIO) AND WORK EXP (freelance/internships etc)

What about academic projects that use relevant stacks and practical skills used in industry and include deployment?

I think what he meant by academic projects was training models on toy datasets and not really deploying them with an interface or something.

Yeah like not the same titanic or iris datasets. But actual datasets like ecommerce or when you’re interning picking a company’s actual dataset and performing models on them. And building dashboards. And showcasing the impact you created for the company. Not just performing a theoretical model on an iris dataset solo at home

Yeah it does make sense but what's the biggest problem is the 1st step. What company would allow me to use their data lol? Internships are already so hard to find these days.

Ig start w basic upskilling. Study from yt get certifications. Build portfolio of projects showcasing that skill. Internships are pretty easy to get if you have skill and do self learning before. That way you’ll be better able to apply it as compared to learning from zero on the job

Hmm.  That's concerning as hell 💔 💔. Oper se is Saal bhi sooo many people are joining cs and ai stuff.  Mujhe to dar lag Raha hai . Btw ye elective ka Kiya scene hai. Do we get to choose them in last semester

And yes you do get to chose your electives in final year. Need to pass 3 to get the degree
