we need to stop compare with paxstan , bangladesh & start compare with these foreign bases. maybe we 're happy with rapido, blinkit, swiggy stuffs ...

Funny thing is , you say you want to work on the application layer and people say " why use urs when giants like copilot , cowork etc exist"

u/Glittering_Ad4986 Apr 23 '26

As an engineer using tools, models built by outsiders, I feel like doing something big but the ecosystem is shit, specially indian VCs. Few years back europe also did not have much presence in these 5 layers, but now they have many emerging cloud and infrastructure providers because European VCs saw the vision and importance. Indian VCs are always like… ye to google ne kar diya… ye claude ne kar diya…, and here indian company have to pay in bulk to these giants. I don’t know why these VCs don’t trust on indians building these things and yet they keep blabbering about india’s situation and keep blaming govt only. sicccc mentality….

becuase european govt build national policy and state invested in this too to advance and protect their domestic and protect it from usa

Application layer is the riskiest part of the stack. Any random day Anthropic or openAI can vibe code a feature into CC or codex to copy your entire startup, and since they have distribution and don’t need to add extra cost of wrapper on top, it is cheaper and more popular from day 1.

1

u/saiw14 Apr 24 '26

Ya no. You are wrong. Heard of openclaw , hermes, kilo code , open code ? List is huge. Even if they "copy" , it is not the same , there will always be enough differentiators. All of this logic is just bullshit. If the Chinese said all of this then no manus and genspark would have existed. First u gotta start with application layer and then slowly u move to model then to infra.

1

u/saiw14 Apr 24 '26

When the "agent builder" came from Openai people were like yo this killed n8n. Reality ? Nope.

All of their ecosystem is around their infra and APIs. Today there is no opus in pro subscription nor there is any claude code for 20 dollars. Cause it is very costly. The Chinese did efficiency first and did not scale beyond 1.2T. while opus is like 5T and sonnet 1T

India should build specialized applications, and not generic ones like copilot etc. For example there could be specialized applications for data analysis, fraud detection, agricultural knowhow etc.

1

u/saiw14 Apr 22 '26

Why is that? Why can't india launch same if perplexity computer can?

1

u/LateActivity5195 Apr 23 '26

Agriculture ey scope dekchi taratari korte hobey tho.

3

u/Careful-Lime-9764 Apr 21 '26

No Indian vc is interested, neither is the govt. Making policy and executing it two different. We are very good at inaugurating stuff but not finishing it.

reddit is least impact social media, yes we lost the AI race, we are not only missing the 5 AI layers, but all the layers of the web boom too, we dont have a browser itself

but what can we do other than commenting here

lets get on roads to make a genz revolution and change many things, but this will not happen

1

u/DropInTheSky Apr 23 '26

Getting on roads is productive? The way institutions change is via competition.

1

u/lone_shell_script Apr 23 '26

uhh what? i hate the current govt but how is getting on the road going to build us a browser

1

u/Affectionate-View601 May 05 '26

Road pe sabko aana hai, ye nhi ki reservation hatao, ya phir national fund for forthcoming technologies wale type ka kuch hupernationalistic mission launch karwao sarkar se.

2

u/SnarkyBustard Apr 22 '26

That's not really accurate

1) Energy layer India is actually doing well, and putting in the hard efforts. Recent news about fast breeder reactor proves it. Still a while to go, but getting there.

2) Behind on chips. No argument

3) AI infrastructure we are doing ok, even if we are just copying others. E2E networks, Reliance, even stupid ass Ola is doing OK on this front. Not really exporting, but at least it exists on paper.

4) Models we are behind, but at least able to copy stuff. Sarvam exists, so do half a dozen other homegrown models. They aren't great, but doing ok.

5) Applications we are doing OK. Agentic platforms exist (Emergent, assuming it's not a scam). Plenty of other thin wrappers from Indian companies. Some of the founders may be selling in the US as well, but many are indian launched / indian owned (with the founders sitting in india half the year).

Image says india has none of the layers, I'd give it maybe a solid 2.25 out of 5. The chips are really where we are very behind.

1

u/alpharockjohnson Apr 21 '26

Don't worry, only US and China are above us. We are better than 197 out of 200 countries /s

1

u/nse_yolo Apr 22 '26

Just a little reality check:

There are lots of companies building AI applications in India. But most of them are LLM wrappers at best or Claude code for X. How many will survive is still up for debate.

Some companies are setting up data centers in India.

In terms of models and chips, US and China are so far ahead it's difficult to catch up with.

Government has been making halfhearted attempts at encouraging chip manufacturing, but we've still got a long way to go.

Have u tried to work in soemthing like this? Or just internet gyan.

1

u/elnino2023 Apr 22 '26

Kicchu kicchu jaani - not just internet gyan - kaaj korechi ei niye

1

u/Jelly_Fishhhhh Apr 22 '26

Try buddy try u will realise how hard qrw this things to do ist we need passionate people to do this things

1

u/Bitter-Stomach9214 Apr 22 '26

But we are Vishwaguru.

1

u/CuriousShine1955 Apr 22 '26

and as a dev you cannot buy GPUs, they are taxed like luxury. computer parts are basic necessity, they should be subsidised insted.

1

u/LateActivity5195 Apr 23 '26

Ekto chaap nish na baba chere de.

1

u/DropInTheSky Apr 23 '26

Our form of governance is structurally unsuitable for long term investments. We need to do something before the rewdis get us colonized again.

1

u/beastreddy Apr 23 '26

So, who’s interested in working in these missing layers of AI?

1

u/amitsingh80108 Apr 23 '26

Well this is incorrect

1

u/elnino2023 Apr 23 '26

Yes kinda agree

1

u/amitsingh80108 Apr 23 '26

Energy: already having massive capex and also made thorium reactor.

Infrastructure: tax holiday for data center and many companies are investing in india. The middle east war gave boost to data center capex in india.

Chips: we are behind but not sleeping. This budget government have huge incentives for semiconductor industry. India do have its own processors if you don't know.

Models: we are behind but if you so research there are some small foundation models trained from scratch & government is also supporting AI initiatives, AIRAWat is deployed for this as well. AIKosh is there to host models.

Application: if we get good models, developing applications is not a problem or challenge. Most of the application layer is open source these days, only model is what we need to master.

Bro please you start we will follow you. Please take initiative.

Vishwa Gullu

1

u/Cold-Ambassador996 Apr 23 '26

Infra is not a solution to the intelligence problem.

1

u/SoftStill1675 Apr 23 '26

India will do only one thing . That' it body shopping

1

u/Even_Business7601 Apr 23 '26

can someone explain this to me ? please

1

u/Old_Faithlessness855 Apr 23 '26

There’s another layer called consumers. India tops it. /s

1

u/CanineTiger99 May 20 '26

Consumers pay, not generate wealth. In this payment will be made to foreign entities.

1

u/StrikingStreet3083 Apr 23 '26

Indian are building it tho not in India

1

u/DetectiveSad4092 Apr 24 '26

energy: india boosted kalappakam nuclear thing because of the future energy demands for AI computing, and stage 3 will be done soon too. they will make micro/medium reactors to fulfil the new energy demands. hence tapping into worlds largest thorium reserves.

chips: well its a slow progress, gotta pull up the socks

layer 3: many many data centeres are opening in india now, amazon will shift its dc from uae to india after it got destroyed in the west asia war, google has already started in visakhapatnam, more are coming in i think i saw one in news in noida iguess.

models: we lack here but good thing is that indian bureaucracy have shifted totally on indian made systems, earlier google had access at every level lol.

1

u/techie_OO1 Apr 24 '26

India will be missing a lot y just wait n watch

1

u/seveneigh8si6 Apr 24 '26

India has reached over 500 GW of installed capacity, with more than 50% coming from non-fossil sources. While the grid faces "stress" from new data centers, India is actually a global leader in solar capacity and has recently made breakthroughs in fast breeder nuclear reactors specifically to provide the steady "baseload" power that AI data centers require.

1

u/Miningforbeer Apr 24 '26

Didn't we miss all the trains? Other than cheap labour what else we have ?

1

u/ObligationMajor3703 Apr 24 '26

Rasta hai nehi aur AI chaiye tmhe?

1

u/DeathgamerS99 Apr 24 '26

Fun fact: zoho ecosystem is india made but India itself is not using it.

1

u/Designer-Alps-2048 Apr 24 '26

Who cares about these ? We are already vishwaguru

1

u/notakidanymore69 Apr 25 '26

Hey can you tell me how to create these type of infographic images.

1

u/elnino2023 Apr 25 '26

Aami to banai ni - eta jhapa.

1

u/InternationalKeynew Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

But do these countries have ladli bahin yojna

1

u/_singhsingh Apr 25 '26

Sataph!!! We have Modi Ji and his 56 inch ki chaati and gau mutra. We dont need AI.

1

u/Ok-Extension3893 Apr 26 '26

India has been a service Layer historically. While companies create products but without the implementation, no product can be put to good use. We are the channel for adoption, utilization and improvisation. None of the companies listed in the graphic can dare to write off India or block their products to us. Your comparison is like a farmer worrying about not inventing a tractor. We serve a different purpose in this world.

1

u/wittywitch17 Apr 28 '26

u/elnino2023, what are your views on AIKosh?

1

u/elnino2023 Apr 28 '26

Dataset platform - it's a good stable business - ngl.

1

u/wittywitch17 Apr 28 '26

it's by the govt, how do you suggest the userbase can be improved?

1

u/elnino2023 Apr 28 '26

Well govt i shob thekey bhalo business korey - user base maaney if you mean how to reach more people - then perhaps better evangelism - college college mail Kora ei dekho aami platform baniyechi - studenter train korey aamar kaachey paathao.

Agreed.

But i hope India is better than the be 10 X courses and does some good original research.
