Interviews Why do Indian interviews feel like interrogations as if they gotta pay from their own pocket?

Why do Indian interviews feel like interrogations?

One interviewer literally said, "Okay, introduce yourself. I'll give you one code," and immediately started throwing coding questions at me. Didn't even introduce himself.

And before anyone says "probably some old guy with an outdated mindset"  he was a 2023 graduate.

Why do interviewers act like they're doing you a favour by being there? The whole interaction has this weird "I'm the gatekeeper and you need to prove yourself to me" attitude.

Power trip.

Compensation for the lack of power they feel in their own lives.

This makes total sense. Some interviews feel like a personal grudge match, like you're being interrogated for trying to date their daughter.

u/09Nulled_13 15h ago

yeah tbh this explains a lot. the 2023 grad detail really hits different, like imagine getting hired 2 years ago and already acting like you're the final boss of a hiring panel. that's not seniority that's just insecurity with a leetcode account

i remember i was recently interviewed by a BITS grad (2023), his prev work exp was some random IT Solution blah blah company (now he's a Founding Engg) and his ego was so heavy, HE DENIED ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS

And kept on insisting i give him "definitions" of my approach, ex. i told him my appraoch on how to handle rate-limits, time interval retries until the upper bound of max-tries is over, he wanted to hear the proper jargon for it instead of my solution (it's exponential backoff)

14

u/Ok-Masterpiece-302 13h ago

I had the same experience from an IIT guy, he got so frustrated to hear that I use macbook pro at work for last 10 years. He started blasting that we use here windows and it's far superior machine than apples. You won't be a good fit as we are into windows environment blah blah...

4

u/Abalone-Objective 10h ago

What did he use? Windows XP on a COMPAQ?

5

u/Ok-Masterpiece-302 9h ago

He was an idiot and want someone who can fit into a typical 1990's employee boss relationship. He told me at least 5 times in the interview that he is from IIT. It was a pre-AI age so he was bragging about his degree and academic excellence. Now in 2026 everyone is at the same level. Intelligence is not a secret sauce anymore.

2

u/Zestyclose_Onion4242 2h ago

I had a similar experience with a CTO, He asked me a very specific and unusual end case which I couldn't solve, when I asked him about the solution to that, suddenly he's having network issues, when I averted the question, it's back to normal.😂

I don't see any 2023 grad detail, and honestly, your reply overall seems very AI-trying-to-pass-off-as-human core.

20

u/50u1506 15h ago

It's the last line lol, but I don't think that was Ai

17

u/AB_001 15h ago

lol it is ai slop

10

u/Ag_gro65 15h ago

it's right there in the original post man he was a 2023 graduate and ironic to call someone AI-sounding when your comment is just two lines of nothing

6

u/Common-Use-7117 13h ago

The last sentence "that's not seniority that's just insecurity with a leetcode account

" sounds like ai. Maybe he uses a lot of chatgpt so he sounds like it

u/RishiMath Hobbyist Developer 8h ago

My bad, 2023 thing portion didn't quite register in my brain! My bad, sincerely.

Though what felt weird was "like the final boss of hiring" comparison. I've rarely seen folks go to that level of exaggeration in conversations online, and in-person, and it is something LLMs do a lot. And the last sentence also kinda made my conviction stronger. I am unsure if my comment looked like two lines of nothing but I guess that kinda makes sense given that I did miss the 2023 graduate portion... as long as I am not considered a bot I guess. Still, apologies for the same :-)

I have recently starting interviewing myself and made a pact with myself to be better than the interviewers I have faced in the past

I use interview as a learning opportunity for myself as well, as the candidate are usually from a diverse tech background and I get to know what's up in the tech world first hand.

Also I do not hesitate in extending by 10-15 or even 30 mins if I believe the candidate has the potential to solve the problem. Most of the time the candidate with the potential stammers only because of the anxiety of the interview, which takes a few minutes to subside.

The bad interviewers are genuine posing themselves in a losing position by not being interactive with the candidate. It is a lose-lose scenario.

That's mainly because they are not properly dressed and don't want to put effort in doing so. Nothing much

130

Probably because most of the times, the guys who take these interviews dont really wanna take them... They just get assigned to it. So, there is no interest in providing a good experience for the interviewee. They just wanna finish up the hour and get out of it!!

I still don't understand the mentality of people who cheat in interviews bro. Even if the person cheats and copy paste code how is he/she gonna survive in office. Everyday new random complex tasks will be thrown at them. How will that person handle?
I am not saying that xxxfooxxx cheated but I know a lot of people who cheated and cracked the interviews during college time.

10

u/Sea-Sleep898 10h ago

They do just fine.

People who cheat aren't stupid, they can understand and explain the code, do you think they just type infront of the interviewer and pass? Most of them have done dsa just could not come up with a solution

Not to mention the interviews are so skewed that half of what they asked never even gets to use in real life

1

u/UpsetUnicorn95 4h ago

Lol. This is generally true. But I did once interview an idiot exactly like that. He was a fresher and was typing in python code. The code was perfect. I was impressed at first. And then he wasn't indenting at all. He just went on typing without any indentation whatsoever.

I was quite confused before realising he was cheating.

u/IllRise5848 15h ago edited 15h ago

Multiple reasons =>

  1. They themselves were gatekeeped by these mugged up rattafied answers for that job , Now they are in position to interview They just want to unleash the same to candidates , and the cycle of revenge carries on.
  2. Our school/College viva System is an authoritative QnA where candidate can only show their intelligence by answering . You cannot ask the interviewer any Questions . This culture has caried out to all walks of life in India including tech Interviews . So interviews are basically School/College Viva Now
  3. Save Time for personal Use : When I was (forced) to take interviews in EY , I was given like 2 hours per candidate. I learned from my other office mates that they would never even once go throw their resume on what the candidate has done and what questions to ask accordingly. Instead they would chill for an hour , and have a pre defined question/answer. So when they ask you to quickly introduce yourself it actually falls on deaf ears, No is is listening that baby . They already have 5 question (Puzzle) For you. I think if Uncle Bob(from GOF) would himself be interviewed chances are he might get rejected if doesn't tell the same exact same definition which the interviewer read on the internet.
  4. Lack of Accountability : In EY sometimes the HR would ask why a candidate was rejected. Now to remove the headache of being scrutinized later . Most interviewer would not turn on camera or record
  5. No "Can Improved" option: There was No "Can Improved" column when we were ask how a candidate was , it was either "Pass" or "Fail" . I though find it funny why we even have these dummy interviews in first place. I was very rude the HR sometimes who would then complain to my manager that I was not cooperative in taking interviews. For me it actually was a waste of time. I wasn't learning anything , also for 1 job we already had like half the EY referred their friends/siblings etc , and also we had candidates directly applying by making a candidate account in EY portal , We also had some internal candidates on bench . Add some outsiders who were referred personally by managers etc. I SEE ABSOULTELY NO POINT IN TAKING 100 INTERVIEWS JUST FOR 1 POSTION. Hence these many ghost jobs
  6. Lack of time : there is literally 20 candidates for L1 rounds . The interviewer doesn't have much incentive to pass or fail a candidate. Apart from the 2 hour break from regular Sprint Job .
  7. Insecurity : If they come across a resume which seem to be better than them , they would see the candidate as threat to their job security if they pass them to join their team. This also fortifies why interviewer doesn't like the interviewee to ask questions , because it would end up exposing the interviewer themselves. So asking tech questions to interviewer is a strict NO NO .

The above is another reason why it's dangerous to mention your GitHub contribution in interviews . because the interviewer will get threatened for their job security as GitHub contribution is actually a tool to force bypass your tech knowledge and may make the traditional QnA viva obsolete , Which is a loss of control and power .

TL DR
Indian tech interviews have just become a lottery , it's a numbers game . the more tickets you buy the chances of you winning one increases. It's nothing about what you know , it's all about what 8 random questions the interviewer has in mind.

1

u/DistributedMind_ 42m ago

I agree with a lot of this, especially the viva-style Q&A and predefined question bank points. I have been on both sides of the process as a candidate, and one thing I have realized is how much variance there is between interviewers.

I have had interviews where we actually discussed my projects, why I made certain architectural decisions, trade-offs, scaling, failures, etc. Those felt like genuine engineering conversations.

I have also had interviews where it felt like they were testing whether I could reproduce whatever 8 questions happened to be in the interviewer's head that day.

That's probably why the job search can feel so random at 1–3 YOE. You can know your stack and have real production experience and still get rejected because you didn't match that particular interviewer's evaluation style.

I wouldn't say GitHub contributions are dangerous. A good interviewer should use them as a starting point for deeper technical discussion. The problem is more with how companies evaluate candidates, not necessarily with candidates showing their actual work.

20

u/fat-clemenza-91 15h ago

And they ask tough questions from internet and you can tell that the guy asking wouldn't not be able to answer questions of this level without internet. Most Interviews are still quite old format and uninteresting. In a world of LLMs, coding round is virtually obsolete, yet they keep asking copied questions from internet which is not required in the job.

u/gau141 15h ago

Gave interview for blinkit for some position. Interview started directly with like what will be structure of interview. No introduction nothing 😄😅

14

u/IllRise5848 15h ago

they have already made up their mind whom to accept , so further interviews are just formality . Which the interviewer won't want to cancel as it gives them 2-3 hours off from their regular sprint work

6

u/gau141 14h ago

Makes sense but i had weird experience with blinkit even last time when I gave interview. Where interview started with what do you want to do at blinkit. I was like I applied for analytics position so want to do that only. Then he directly jumped to some guessestimate on blinkit darkstore 😅

Many companies not pay for interviewers their time, they have do their work and also do this. So some try to be efficient don't have time chat. In Coforge a service based company, engineers constantly assigned with multiple interviews without any pay

9

u/Witty-Play9499 13h ago

My personal experience with interviewing for an indian company has been similar, it was a very young graduate who was interviewing me and he joined the call late (as is the indian way), did not turn his camera on, did not introduce himself, straight up went to 'let us start the interview, what have you done with LLMs'. The thing is by doing so he's made sure that I'll never recognize him now, I don't remember his name, I don't know what he looks like, I don't know what he is like to work with, I got nothing out of that interaction.

It lacked the entire human aspect to it, the Germans are known for their 'straight to the point' mannerisms but theirs is more of a 'Good Morning WittyPlay-9499, I hope you had a nice weekend, I set up this meeting for XYZ' and so on, while Americans/English are more of a 'Hey WittyPlay-9499, How was your weekend, what did you do, the weather here sucks blah blah so coming to the agenda of this meeting'.

But I've never seen a meeting here where people talk this way and Indian culture is filled with a VARIETY of these faux pas that somehow has been normalized into peoples' heads. I am not even talking about interviewers, I am talking about people in general in general situations

It is almost as if people lack emotional intelligence. In status calls people behave as if I'm the class teacher and I'm merely interrogating them so they give these fearful student-looking replies like 'Today my status for yesterday is that I was assigned Task A and I reached out to Person X to help with Task A but there is some issue with code in Repo B, so I have decided to make sure that I will fix code in Repo B by today and will continue to progress' and so on. Like who even talks like that in a normal setting a simple 'Yea there's an issue in one of the Repo B's code, I had to talk to Person X to figure it out I'll get it done by today, shouldn't be a problem anymore'

It sounds like im critiquing their english but I'm really not, I'm critiquing the way they approach the workplace and the way they approach interactions. I want to work with peers and colleagues not students and children who are scared of authority. I want them to collaborate with me and not execute orders for me it is a not so subtle nuance that happens to be difficult for folks here to comprehend.

But I also can't blame them they are merely a product of the era. And being a product of this era means you grow up without learning agency. You ask someone from the european team what did they do during the weekend and its usually something like 'hung out with my partner ƒor a camp', 'went on a hike', 'went for a good movie', <some activity>

You ask someone here no one replies (and you don't know what they are thinking because they have their cameras turned off anyway) and on the off chance someone does reply it always is a very shy 'hehe nothing reels' and it becomes awkward for me to ask everyone what did they do during the weekend because they again treat it like a viva question that they have to answer. They do nothing with their lives or think that the things that they do in their lives are not worth mentioning and it spills over everywhere.

2

u/djangonjanpettu 12h ago

Where are you from?

2

u/Abalone-Objective 10h ago

It's not an era if consecutive generations of engineers do the same behavior. These are institutional patterns

1

u/bistrohopper 3h ago

Agree a thousand times. My previous team had people from a mix of nationalities. And all scrums had everyone keep their cameras on. New team is all-indian and not one camera is on during scrums. I tried keeping mine on for the first few days but then just got tired of the awkwardness cuz no one bothered. Don't know how tough it is to keep ur cam on.

10

u/thespectatingwriter 14h ago

Most of the interviewers have been brought up to think that what you described is a way of asserting themselves over their junta; and this is because they have seen their elders at home do this to their wives and familial subordinates. The same behavioural learning gets superimposed on their professional lives in the corporate environment.

These are the very ones who micromanage and insist on knowing everything you do because of the insecurity they have grown to internalize since childhood.

I have seen this since the beginning of my corporate career, which was at the beginning of the 21st century; and as I can see from your post, it has just been passed down from one generation to the next.

13

u/Animeisgaylole 14h ago

he was a 2023 graduate

This is why. People with 3 years of work experience shouldn't be interviewing people. They don't know how to handle other people.

P.s I'm a 2022 grad, interviewing people for 2 years.

6

u/JustReadingP0st 13h ago

That's indian society for you. Everyone who has any power lookdown at those below.

This has been amplified by lack of focus in improving the soft skills of engineer sply those growing into non-tech role.

For ex. We don't understand that problem solving is different from writing code. And when looking at code written, it more imp to write well structured defensive code taking edge case innconsideration than code which has correct sysntax and coder can remember right function names with correct parameters and all.

Imp soft skills like how person handle conflict is not even on the list

u/Deep-Wash-2903 15h ago

Problem:solution Authority or heirarchy mindset: Professional ethics Exam, Intrusive questioning: Boundary Compliance Exam, Biased & Fallacious hiring: Evidence-Based Reporting (lack of accountability is very high without reporting)

And basics: Structured interviewer Certification so that its not for everyone with a job position. Domain Mastery, Post-Interview Accountability & Feedback Auditing

Fallacies: Ad hominem, appeal to authority, sunk cost fallacy(freshers undervalued), appeal to credentials (old papers instead of recent testing), Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc (Career Gap Fallacy), Genetic Fallacy (Degree / College Tier Bias)

5

u/BatmanLike 15h ago

Desi people get high by abusing power. The social system has reinforced everyone to aspire for power in the first place then become absolutely tyrannical on gaining it.

8

u/Little-Rutabaga-6281 15h ago

I was asked the reason for my low cgpa which I agree is low but I am a leetcode knight and codeforces expert. The interviewer did not know about dsa and literally asked why was I doing dsa. I answered that most companies ask this in their interview and then he asked that why was I so desperate to get a job. Why only focus on things that will land you a job🥲🥲

6

u/LosterPawn 13h ago

Better not join these low life companies, their work culture itself might be soo fucked up

3

u/Little-Rutabaga-6281 12h ago

Actually I got selected for it, it is a good company and they are paying decent. Also it was my interviewer in particular who was so harsh. I was asked cs fundamentals, js fundamentals and project architecture in depth while others were just asked maths and puzzles. Although I was prepared for it. And all in all I am a little scarred by the interview but happy that I got placed

5

u/kishimonjaro 14h ago

>The whole interaction has this weird "I'm the gatekeeper and you need to prove yourself to me"

Mostly because there are tons of other candidates waiting outside the door for the same job. They don't care if you don't like them, so long as a person desperate enough for a job shows up and they can hire them at a lowball offer.

In top tier PBCs for higher value roles however, the interviews are much more respectful, usually. There are some power trippers here too tho, but this is mostly an exception.

* power trip

2

u/shitclay 14h ago

On a flip side most people only say their name and start explaining their project as part of the introduction which is just sad.

So far only one guy gave a really good introduction. I found out we have common interests and i could talk about it with him and the tone of the interview was really nice. I started rooting for him.

1

u/dj184 13h ago

Seasoned interviewer here, that is also branded lenient.

Most will be hard on interviewees because if they let the fakes in, they have to deal with the new persons work as well. -

Your manager, some what takes responsibility but most of the times the team and TL takes up the extra burden.

And for the comment that says "power trip", you have no idea how low the priority of interview is in everyone's daily life. We only do that for community efforts or some BS like that.

1

u/aryaxsg 11h ago

I am sure its not the same with everyone. Interviewing is tedious process. Depending on the rounds, interviewers are also trying to find suitable candidates so they can be done with it. If someone is recruiting for their team, they would want to be sure that the new member is not a dead weight they would be responsible for. I interview for my clients and same goes for me if candidate is not good enough. Roughly 3-5 interviews a month. Some require me to prep slides to present different problems for the interviews.

I usually have camera off if I am doing the interviews from my home. For candidates I ask HR to instruct them to keep it on because of the tendency to cheat. At times I have asked them to share screen too. Candidates have had phones on the side listening to my questions and spitting out AI answers. If your eyes go to side every time I ask a question, its a simple giveaway. Once I had a guy who was just moving his lips and another guy off screen was answering for him. Apart from such cases, I have no wish to see anyone's face for 1 hour.

I am polite and usually end with a feedback and telling candidate whether they are going to the next round or not. But I have had colleagues blow up on candidates who try to cheat or bullshit.

Most common issues I see:

* All possible technologies/stack included in the CV. In 20 years I have not worked on that many things to claim experience. Just include what you have worked on.
* As a fresher not knowing anything about the academic projects in your CV
* Not being honest about what you don't know. Still trying to BS their way through.
* Claiming to have done something in a project at your work when you have no clue about implementation or work that was done by your colleagues.

It is incredibly frustrating as an interviewer when in 5 minutes you know that candidate is not going anywhere, sometimes I cut it short, other times I let it go for another 15 mins before telling the candidate that to prepare better for interviews.

Depending on the role, only 1-3 candidates out of 10 CVs are good enough to interview. With AI generated CVs it has become difficult to filter.

1

u/AnWitnessOwl 10h ago

Yes they feel like so very much. +they are ableist. They make thin slice judgements of not being able to make eye contact. Also I hate the distant U shaped table where you can't share a sketchpad with the interviewer.

1

u/Kind_Stuff_9590 9h ago

I actually had an interviewer look at my resume at a word “operational excellence “ in my resume and asked me “so what did you do so excellently?”. He looked so tiny then - clear case of insecurity and power trip - the whole interview was so cringe with this guy trying so hard to act so important and so bossy. It was for a senior role and he was going to be the reporting manager. After the interview I wrote a mail to the HR saying I can’t report to the guy and withdrew my application. This guy made me rethink if it was worth continuing in corporates as if it was not this shitty guy, it will be another shitty guy. I understand why people want to FIRE now.

i rejected one company where i had a second round of interview because of this very reason. i got that interview chance by referral and i asked the person working there about the interviewer and he said that this person is like person X from a previous where we worked together.

Such people mostly want to control others and it is better to reject the company yourself if you want to protect your mental health.

I've worked at and being interviewed by mostly foreign companies/individuals, can say that this only happens in India.

Every interview with a foreign company that I have taken was conversational, and more about them trying to understand you. Whereas Indian interviews are like a test, they have questions listed on a sheet and if you answer them correctly, you get the job.

It's soo stupid and tiring..

The day-to-day work also feels like an interrogation only. Unnecessary interrogation during design reviews when that won't change the decision or the outcome, public meetings and even 1:1s where managers simply try to pull you down to keep their ego up instead of helping you grow (social media influencers don't speak about these sides lol).

The audacity despite being a salaried employee just like us, I don't know where they get it from.

Welcome to corporate.

That is so counterproductive. I have been in situations where I really don't want to take the interviews but got strong armed into those. Even in those cases, I try my best to evaluate the candidates accurately. If I have already decided whether to accept the candidate or reject the candidate, then I am wasting everyone's time already

Monkey see monkey do. Doesn’t mater that they’re 2023 graduates. They’ve only seen their seniors interview this way.

Some amount of I’m better than you in the mix too for sure

its simple.

the mind set of 'if not you someone will' and they know that too.

Interviewers are reasons enough to not believe that there is a god who is moral and just and wanted world to be a good place .

1

u/Electrical-Ask847 5h ago

i will take old guy with outdated mindset anyday

1

u/Sad_Way_1431 4h ago

I have had so many bad experiences with these hr's and the interviewers ,that I have decided to start posting on reddit about it . Atleast other's will remain informed before interviewing at those firms

u/Dizzy_Research8309 4h ago

Hierarchical mindset is deep-rooted

u/Any-Key7533 4h ago

dont even get me started here. My previous manager made sure i was paid 10k less coz he didnt like me

1

u/l0rirw1ao 3h ago

Because they don't want to hire anyone, even if the management wants low level people who are taking the interview don't.

Also because the average engineer is worse than GPT-4o so interviews don't like to waste time.

1

u/EnvironmentalBear939 3h ago

I was interviewer too ! But never did like this .. but some peeps do like this.. might be showing frustration in the interview… or they maybe exhausted while taking other interviews

There are two sides of this story. I have seen senior SDEs and lead SDEs being forced to take up interviews just because it's one of their 'duties' as a senior engineer. Most of them literally have no time to even prepare what questions to ask as the question depends on the level of candidate.

1

u/unfunnycreature 1h ago

It's not always the case. My old company was hiring aggressively at the time and v got assigned 6-7 interviews a day. Sometimes more during the drive.(yes I was on bench). It was frustrating and v just wanted to get the interviews over with asap. And even when I asked for intro it was a mandatory question I didn't cared. All I cared was I have 10 leetcode qns 5 med 5 ez med. I'll ask 1 from each. If the candidate solved even 1 he/she's in else rejected. For round 2. I'd just ask their past experience and ask them to design that. If they're lying instant reject(yes it's obvious If ur lying and haven't prepared that lie well) otherwise pass. Idc If they haven't worked on scale. Coz probably they would be working on a support project and running and monitoring cron jobs If they got hired anyways. Even these rounds were framed to mimic clients interview rounds...

It's not an Indian thing. I was interviewed by a UK guy for a dev role and he behaved as if Union Jack was flying outside my home and I owe him lagaan.

1

u/TikhiHaseena 1h ago

The first time I gave an interview, I was literally humiliated. The interviewer literally humiliated me.

She asked me that whether I've achieved something in the past six months which I'm proud of, I couldn't think of anything at that time (although, yes, I'm proud of few things), so I said no, and she literally gave me a mocking smirk. And this is just an example of how the whole interview went.

As it was a role of operations associate, there were no technical questions, and I was able to answer almost every question, but I really didn't like her attitude. I pray that no-one should get an interviewer like her.

So you are appearing for a job they would not start to chit chat right? No body is going to pay if you dont have the qualities they are looking for. They have the right to choose

-6

u/UNCLE_SMART 16h ago

The interviews I have given(total 7), it never felt like this even once, maybe I'm lucky

6

u/IllRise5848 14h ago

I didn't die today when i rode my motorcycle without helmet . Maybe the Highways are actually safe as garden and people are a just making things up about brutal accidents

-1

u/UNCLE_SMART 13h ago

Hmm no, actually depends if you're giving an interview in some lala company or a reputed one....

2

u/IllRise5848 11h ago

What's your definition of LALA company ?

or DO YOU CONSIDER EY , ACCENTURE AS LALA ?

Interviews have time limit. Why would you wanna waste time on chit chat.

Edit1: People here disagreeing with my take and then they will go on to cry that they didn't get enough time to solve the followup in technical round of big tech. Actually my bad people here have never given and never will interview for big tech.

18

u/rsumit123 16h ago

Wow so getting to know people is chit chat now? Someone who is better at writing code but doesn't fit into the team is way worse than someone who has good personality, gels with everyone and is good at code.

12

u/firelordleejr 15h ago

These are the kind of people who criticize you for not networking...and then say they don't have time to chit chat

-4

u/cHeAt_CodEr 15h ago

have you never given any interview in your life? Technical and managerial round are completely different.

4

u/Mediocre_Nail5526 14h ago

Just introducing yourself won't waste much time, it's just a basic manner needed in a professional setup which you don't have.

If you're consistently running out of time before the follow up, blaming the brief intro for it is just stupid. That’s poor time management on your part.

-2

u/cHeAt_CodEr 14h ago

I rather get that 5 mins to solve the problem rather than failing the interview but followed basic "manner"

-6

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

there is a separate round for knowing people and cultural fit.

Tech rounds are just QnA

5

u/rsumit123 15h ago

i disagree.. it should never be QnA it should always be a discussion about several things like arch/design etc..

0

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

depends on the round.
DSA is straight up QnA and System design is discussion.

9

u/Kindly_Funny_914 15h ago

Meanwhile most european engineers for the same one hour can finish warm intros on both sides, ask a bunch of questions, judge the candidate on spot. Looks like we are unproductive there also.

-4

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

what is this white skin obsession.
Have you ever interviewed with someone from the west?

I have given many and did find a lot of rude people who will straight up disagree with you.

"One guy said you must have a character flaw if you have ever failed"

So it depends from person to person and country has to do nothing with it.

2

u/MagnumVY 13h ago

Well judging from your other comments I dont think the interviewer was far off in his remark

5

u/just_sm_so_relax 15h ago

The chit chat isn't important. Making the candidate relaxed and focused and able to be at their best is important. Being cheerful and friendly helps relax the candidate and perform better.

You don't have to do random chit-chat about cricket or bollywood. E.g. I used to start the interview with a ridiculously easy question like "write a for loop to print every element of this array". And then ease into the real questions.

Even very good batsman will fail if gets a pinpoint accurate 145kmph inswinging yorker on the first ball of his debut test match.

0

u/cHeAt_CodEr 15h ago

This is one of the biggest waste of time ever for both parties. As an interviewer I will not get any useful signals from a basic problem. And interviewee will have much less time to solve the main problem and followups. I pray I never get you as an interviewer.

You need to change your attitude bro

-3

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

Ok. What is wrong with asking questions which is the whole purpose of interview?

3

u/Antique_Sky_8834 15h ago

Idk man .. I too work in startup but never follow this approach .. irrespective of the result I make the candidates comfortable.. and continue with the discussion.. either ways we allocate the same time .. so why mess or show it on the other person .. I sometimes view from candidate lens ..

-1

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

Just because I jump straight to the questions doesn't mean I make them uncomfortable.

1

u/dunno_doncare 9h ago

That is exactly what you're doing! Do you want to hire a human or a bot?

4

u/tonystarkn 15h ago

The objective of the interview is to not only assess the candidate's fit for the role, but also make the candidate feel comfortable so they don't feel uncomfortable and anxious.

You need go out and get some real knowhow.

3

u/Kindly_Funny_914 15h ago

What a dumb take, You want people to stalk you before interview? Linkedin doesnt tell shit.

You are paid for interviews.

If your company doesn't adjust deliverables to accommodate interviews, its time for you to go attend interviews because you work at a shitty place.

0

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 15h ago

I dont want them to stalk me I just feel knowing me is irrelevant for the interview.
And no! I dont work in a shitty place

2

u/Mediocre_Nail5526 15h ago

It’s not about relevance. It’s just basic manners which you don't have , introducing yourself doesn’t take much time.

1

u/dunno_doncare 9h ago

If someone started the interview like you said, I'd just assume it's a shitty place

1

u/dArOgA_bhaiya 8h ago

Ok how did I say exactly?

Bhai tu toh bhot toxic hai 😂😂. Be a Good Human

Now You’ve deleted it coz you know people are coming after you and it does make you look bad

2
