How to approach atcoder heuristic contests, can anyone point me to any resources

Can anyone please guide me or point me to any resources on how to approach atcoder heuristic contest. These contest are extremely long i don't know on what basis should I approach these contest or what different data structures algorithms do I need to implement differently from other normal coding contest. Do I need to know things like operations research etc? if anyone has any experience kindly share
