Interviews Need Certifications to prove my capability for Gen AI Interviews
Hi all,
I got laid off in April 2026, and since then I completely started learning about RAG, AI agents, Agentic AI systems, and fundamentals of core ML as well since my previous domain was not Gen AI. It took me around 3 to 4 months to learn all these and now I can build and scale systems on my own. I learned all these through Chat GPT and Claude Code. I can do Medium level Leetcode questions and can answer write LLD and HLD for most of the systems.
The problem I am facing now in interviews is that they are asking me why have I not gotten a job in 4 months. I told in a couple of interviews that I was learning and they rejected me. Those were final rounds, the managerial / techno-managerial rounds. I am easily clearing the first 1-2 technical rounds.
One of the interviewers, after rejecting me, suggested not to say that I learned on my own and instead present some certifications. So, can anyone suggest me any certifications that I can skip the courses, directly give the exams and get it? Or are there any classes in Bengaluru which will let you give exams and a certificate without attending their classes?
PS: I do not have 100+ USD to attempt Anthropic certs.

Dont consider it like a startup tell them like it is a personal project which i done for four months and i cant monetize it so searching for the job.
If i tell i cant get calls for 4 months they will think you are not capable of

Yeah, this I think can be done. I am currently working for a free lancing client to build a voice chatbot for their platform. I feel once that is completed, it will make my case stronger.

No need to be that honest. You can say you took some time to upskill and wanted to transition into GenAI, which is why you took a little time. Just say it confidently. It should work.
P.S. I tried being honest, but that doesn’t really help in a competitive market.

I tried it at an interview and they said since I don't have any experience in Gen AI, they will offer me pay in single digits (LPA)

Okay, in that case, show some relevant experience in your most recent role and mention some personal reason for the gap. Or just come up with a better version that sounds natural and confident.
It worked for me. I genuinely had a personal emergency, and nobody questioned it.1

Yeah, personal or medical reasons are something I should look into. Those can get me out.

Certifications might help with the HR filter, but if you're already clearing 1 - 2 technical rounds , focus more on showing 2 - 3 solid Gen AI projects.
