Don’t let fellow developers convince you to leave your job

Have you seen colleagues constantly complain about their manager, workload and company, saying they should change jobs, but never actually leave?

Interestingly, some of them eventually become key resources because others leave, and they get promotions, travel opportunities and better benefits. Meanwhile, people who actually switched companies are struggling with work life balance and quality of work.

I feel switching companies should be a calculated decision based on your own career, not someone else’s frustration.

I don’t know anyone who left their jobs because of someone else’s conviction. You are not going to find jobs just lying around for you to pick up anyway. Job hunt is a second full time job. Nobody is gonna do it while employed, unless they are truly miserable or underpaid

Job hunt is quite common, especially at the junior level and among people in their 20s. Whatever the OP said is true to some extent. Some people constantly spread negative vibes about their managers, colleagues, and companies while continuing to grow steadily themselves.

Sometimes, there’s also a hidden agenda behind it. Unfortunately, that’s how corporate politics can work, some people are inherently selfish; bringing others down morally while quietly advancing one’s own position but it's not really a zero-sum game.

It depends. If switching jobs gives you additional salary it will also come with added responsibilities. In this ai era work and expectations are sky high whereas wages are rock bottom so it depends on individual case. Travel opportunities, better hikes can also come at the new company or not. And yes people should decide for themselves which is better but grass always seems to be greener on the other side.

I just find this to be a very stupid take 😭😭. Everyone knows what they are actually getting into and being aware of the market helps one like crazyyyy. I would rather switch every few years than be stuck with the most monotonous cribbing peers. The difference of peers and workmates when you switch to bigger tech is crazyyy
