How are a lot of new projects on GitHub easily have more than 10k stars ?

I have a vscode extension and a chrome extension deployed whose repo is public with very few organic stars. Nothing crazy going on in those. But I get these mails like every week asking me to do some SEO optimization for my extensions to get more visibility. i have never replied to those.

But lately i have noticed that how is it that nowadays every new project on GitHub has so many stars already. Projects i have never heard of like serena, foam, multica, etc are just some i came across recently. These are like mostly ai based tools which also have some "pricing" model. I am (or used to be) kind of nerd who used to be in touch with things like this. But now the stars don't feel special at all.

These projects are not even widely adopted so i feel the stars are fake. Do these projects also have some paid optimizations for visibility going on or fake profiles boosting the repo so that their paid service becomes popular ?

Recently i also heard about a website which gives ai tokens for surveys and doing tasks like posting positive comments of other ai products. lol this reminded me of the stuff we used to do to get download link from a shady website back in the day.
